As I prepare for the next version of the demo, I have a question for all of you:
If you flirt with multiple romanceable characters, how should the game respond?
New love interest asks about existing romances.
Old love interest initiates relationship conversation.
MC proactively chooses whether flirtation turns into romance.
No opinion/I don’t play with romance.

To clarify, at the end of the game, the number of active romances will be either one or zero (romance/no romance). The question I’m facing is when to force the choice of which love interest remains an active romance. There will not be an option to play several romances in parallel since that would complicate the game beyond the scope of what’s realistic for me to complete.
Allow me a moment to convey my utmost delight after experiencing the demonstration of your esteemed demo. I must confess, I had a most wonderful time immersing myself in its intricate gameplay. The nuanced style of both the game mechanics and writing is a sheer delight, a testament to your artistry and dedication. Everything appears resplendent, and my admiration for your work knows no bounds. I eagerly await further updates with bated breath, eager to delve deeper into the world you have so meticulously crafted.
What a lovely message! I’m so glad to hear that you’re enjoying my little story. You’ve joined us at an opportune time, since I’m just about to push a new update to the public version of the game.
Version 0.3 includes the main body of week 3, which will make up the first half of chapter 3. This is the first week in which players can choose from three mutually exclusive activities. Which activity you choose will affect what conversational options are available to you, based on what clues you unlock. But worry not! Most of the major clues will still be possible to uncover, later on.
Events in week 3:
Speak to Mr Aymer, Fairmont’s elderly postmaster.
Meet Noelissa’s respectable parents, Dr and Ms Tulian.
Visit Fairmont’s one and only teashop.
Find the enigmatic Mr Asten at the town library.
With this update out in the world, and barring any major bugs, the next item on my agenda is week 3’s incoming mail, including letters from all four correspondents.
If you’ve played the new version, tell me: which activity did you choose and which mystery are you most curious about?
Oh, I love your story so much, the characters, the country, the letters. It reminds me a lot of Jane Austen’s books. Very lovely. I’m looking forward to the next update
Quick note that a small update has gone up on both Dashingdon and itch to fix a bug in week 3 involving a bad label. If you run into any trouble with the new version, let me know.
The NPCs all have fixed ages (including the MC’s mother and father). I hadn’t set Mr Arlick’s age in particular, but he’s probably in his late twenties, or so. For comparison, according to my current notes, Mr. Varavis is 27, Jessa is 23, and Noelissa is 25. The dynamic changes somewhat based on the age you choose for the MC.
Have you seen that Dashingdon is shutting down at the end of this month? I really do enjoy your story - the format is so unlike any other IFs I have read! It would be a shame for it to disappear!
The game is currently hosted on itch.io, and this version of the demo is linked in the first post of this thread. I will remove the redundant Dashingdon link, but I don’t think it’s essential to mirror the demo on COGdemos, as well.
