@JBento & @E_RedMark
I have a feeling its symbolizes reincarnation. My theory at least.
Now Iām picturing a certain vampire from another game as a waiter. I need sleep.
Iāll, uh, Iāll be in my bunk.
EDIT: I feel like this thread could be merged with the Announcement one, so we donāt have the discussions spread out.
OK, Iāll try to answer your questions, but you should know that only lacunafiction has the answer to some of them. She didnāt spoil us of what is to come in the other books. So most of these are my own thoughts and speculations.
I think the Board made some kind of deal with the Big Bad thing that is controlling the town. The MC should be some kind of sacrifice but her grandpa sent her away with the help of Rās father. The result - he died instead of MC.
Donāt you dare say such things about mother in law. Sheāll change some day maybe
Itās M
No, I think itās some kind of minion of the Big Bad
Maybe weāll learn in book 2 when we see him again?
Of course she is!
OK
No idea
Yes, heās my bestie
The Big Bad is making it alive probably
The town is in the loop now. I presume it always has been but grandpa somehow broke it for us to escape.
Me too
Hmmā¦
I hope its not a cult thing personally.
Its something else.
I donāt know about everyone else, but I did see Movies or stories about āStuck in a Town foreverā. Donāt recall where or what they were calledā¦but the āFeelingsā are always the same.
I mean we do have clues all over the place.
1- Your Grand Pa remembering. Why only him? why suddenly?
2- Your supposedly āDeath that shouldāve happen but didnātā. Did that do something to screw things over? I get that āSenseā from how those in powers like Bowser are all acting like āFuck, its YOUā¦this gonna complicate thingsā.
3- I dare say that the monster is a distraction. Or something they or IT wanted to get rid ofā¦the IT is the Weirdo from the dreams. Also, does IT Talk someone enjoy hearing themselfā¦sheeshā¦lol
4- Then there is the waitressā¦how does she fit in this? she isnāt with the boardā¦she make it feel likeā¦its either she is just a witness to events (and sadistic witness), a Collector (She is waiting for her timeā¦chance?), or she is with the Dream Weirdo? (although that would be too much on the nose)
5- and Marjorie?
6- One thing for sure, there is a conspiration going on here.
Something old exist through the Town. Can take over peoples thoughts, bodies and dreams.
But that just beg more questions: Was ya parents death really just a freak accident? Or were theyā¦targeted for a sacrifice? because they found something? figured out something and wanted to leave?
Is the board really evil, or are they too forced to complyā¦?
I think the Waitress is an actual manifestation of the genius loci.
You know, Iām not sure about this. Itās possible that the loop is a new thing and that so far the whole system has relied on making people not want to leave in the first place. Did you try convincing your RO (except possibly B, I guess?) to leave at the end? I did. It makes me want to burn the genius loci to the ground extra hard.
I think the loop is being created by the street sign, though itās possible the loop was there before and the sign just reinforces it.
Hopefully, because it mean I can punch her in her smirking face goodā¦
Interrupting my beauty sleep with bullshit shenanigans, here Iām working hard trying to get Poly in my dreamā¦sheeshā¦spoilsport
@JBento No! the sign is NEW! if anything it limit the Loop. The Loop is old, ya get it from ya grand Pa journalā¦he was re-remembering stuff! That mean he was stuck in a Loopā¦
This was answered in the game. The mother has similar super powers to you and also āresistedā the demon possessing you. With your grandfatherās encouragement. So she was disposed off since the demon thought you would be an easier person to control. That is why the grandfather felt responsible for her death. Which is why the grandfather did something with the player determinant friend to help you āescapeā the town which in turn would keep you out of the domain of the demonās control.
As for the waiter - evil IMO
As for the old lady - evil IMO
And the board - idk, i think they could just be stupid. But possible also evil. I think out of all the factions this game set up, they probably have the most nuance
By the way can you tell that my character had very high pessimistic score? lol
sooooooooā¦
Iām guessing while my MC is dragging Bentoās MC by the collar to go find some butterflies, screaming and kickingā¦with all them smexy romancesā¦
You gonna be brooding about how everything is evil, including the Waffles and eyeballing Waffles the dog?
Got it! ya can hold the fort for us while we wreak Havok on this Place!
No, it meant he had SUPERPOWERS. Namely, Retrocognition. The loop isnāt about time, itās about place.
Iām pretty sure the loop is new. If it isnāt, it really complicates things world-building-wise, because itād mean that random people who happened to wander into town couldnāt leave, and that area would have a missing persons number up the wazoo.
- Mrs. Verner may be a determinant antagonist (or determinant ally), I suspect. While sheās not my favorite of the secondary connections (that characterās name starts with a āWā and ends with āafflesā), I donāt hate herā¦yet. Sheās snobby and irritating, but Iām not sure how much of her particular behavior this time around was amplified by grief .
3 Itās M. The Waiter/Waitress will tell you their nickname themselves.
-
I suspect the tree monster was the Genius Lociās manifestation. The Genius Loci is probably what killed Grandfather, and it may have possessed someoneās corpse (Mr. Verner? Some unlucky hiker?) to create the Tree Monster.
-
I suspect that Milton was running around playing his tricks or going for a drive because he wanted to, and then happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time to be bait for MC.
-
Oh yeah, Bowers is so suspicious I feel like she will bite it in book 2, like the prime suspect in a whodunit.
-
Agreed. B is the best, as their name suggests.
12.The forest is alive in that trees and plants are alive . But I understand what you mean. My hypothesis is that the Genius Loci is making the forest act up because itās aware that the descendant of one of the few people who attempted to thwart it is alive and back in its range.
-
I suspect that the Genius Loci focused its power on B and MC so that they saw separate thingsāMC in particular saw an illusory B as well.
-
Arthur had made peace with his familyās deaths by the end and was ready to resume his life on the outside (hopefully with Becca and Waffles playing a much more expanded role in it). Laurel wanted out of Fernweh (the place amplified her already ugly personalityāI suspect Beckett in Laurelās world was someone who took pity on her (and set himself on fire to keep her warm) rather than someone who admired her as a person) ASAFP. Both of them were shocked and saddened that they couldnāt leave (even though we players couldnāt select that as a choice). I suppose Iāll make my S-mancer MC soonāsomeone who has a reason to wish to stay in Fernweh rather than visit once a year (or never return) without a malevolent spirit breathing down their neck.
not necessarlyā¦
I mean IT gotta eat. What better serving than Tourist! Nobody gonna miss those!
Those people would still be missing persons.
In a Town where Bowser doesnāt care and can falsified reports and what not.
Yeaaaaaaahā¦missing persons.
Not Bowersāthe denizens of their own hometowns/family members could file missing persons reports independently. Unless the Genius Loci only kills people who donāt have connections in their lives who would question their sudden disappearance?
Presumably B has family somewhere, though.
Besides, the new town sign canāt be a coincidence.
EDIT: Also, if the loop is old, then thereās no point in making people not want to leave, because they canāt.
Either way, Iāve only played the beta yet, and am now playing the game, so Iāll see if thereās any new info in it that would shift my theories.
Dark theory: what if the thing that bonded B and MC outside of Fernweh was losing (either via death or estrangement) all their family members?
However, B and MC almost certainly have coworkers and friends (or even friendly acquaintances) who would file a missing persons report if they failed to turn up after the time taken for the trip.
Nothing is absolute.
Everything weaken over time. Magic for example. And nothing can be predicted in advance.
Humans are moving creatures, always buzzing around.
The Loop could have weakened over time, things couldāve happenā¦like a family loss couldāve broke through the āMirageā stuffā¦
Note that
things could leave Fernweh all this time. Young!MC left Fernweh. Letters left Fernweh shortly after that because we corresponded with Grandpa. That means a mailman entered and left Fernweh repeatedly. It did so very recently, because thatās how we learn of Grandpaās death. Itās only at the very end of B1 that leaving is impossible.
Also, thereās a literal boarding house that presumably turns a profit. Fernweh needs outside traffic.
Okay, crazy Theoryā¦
What if Mommy V is with the board because she want her husband back?
Also, Marjorie isnāt with them. I just saw her scene at the end and she say āConsistant winner are loserā or something and I think she mean the board.
Also, the board mention āRules, and sides, and bringing orderāā¦and Iām likeā¦why couldnāt they be Illuminati for once? Cause those guys are fancy but fun.
Soā¦I would say there is:
- The boring Board faction
- Marjorie Faction
- The creepy look at my Colgate Smile-want me to top your coffee Hon? Waitress
- The IT
- The Awesome Hot Tomatoe Tomato Team of Mischieve! MC+ 4 Hotties and a Lassie!
