I think that no one, aside from MC, ever try to leave the town or they just canât. And yes, it was creepy.
Some people have to be able to leave. That is, outsiders have to be able to enter and leave again. Otherwise the town couldnât function.
I think that people do leave the town (for things like education or workâIIRC Ms. Verner is a lawyer and I donât think Fernweh supports a law school and after her behavior throughout the book, I doubt an outsider to the town would have as much clout as she does, after her husbandâs death; there is also a post office that got Grandfatherâs death notice to MC), however they always return for some reason or another. MC is unique because Grandfather wanted them to leave the town forever and I suspect the SL picked up on that.
Okay, but hear me ouf - if you spent all those years trying to become a lawyer why would you came back to a small town like Fernweh? I mean Ms. Verner seems like a woman who wants a good career and
small towns usually donât have their own court system (not where i live) because these cases are given to big townâs court.
And after everything that happend i would think that the thing thatâs stalking MC could implant false memories to townâs folks.
My theory was Mrs. V probably compelled to returned in town. Government involvement or a megacorporation experiment perhaps like the plot of the Maze Runner or Danga Ronpa
In my experience, Iâve met people that reside in small towns and commute to their work in a larger town or city. That could be the case here.
The SL doesnât have to do that. It could just manipulate emotions to make people feel that they arenât âat homeâ anywhere outside of Fernweh. It is certainly capable of emotion manipulation.
I mean, small town people still need lawyers. There are divorces, duiâs, shoplifters⌠not many murders, but that isnât the only thing lawyers are used for
The case may be at a court in a different town, but you can hire a lawyer that lives in a different town if you want to. Where the lawyer lives doesnât really matter as long as they can make it to court
And people die for natural causes and lawyers are needed to sort out the inheritance stuff. Yes.
Given her position, she might have returned for the sole purpose of being in control. Nothing like power, money, and prestige to motivate someone who thinks themselves better than everyone else, after all.
Isnât the new sign something to do with why you canât leave town tho?? That being there is too much of a coincidence⌠like maybe itâs blocking the town lines with some weird tree magic idk haha
I thought the action was very pointed. Also, that the drink burned the MCs tongue. BurningâFireâEvil? (Or hotly evil?) If you are interested in W, he makes the drink somehow taste even better.
@Cat-Toes Yes, I forgot about the candle. That was also creepy. I am not sure if one of your MCs stayed in the Zombie room, but the path of the blood trail changing after the nightmare was definitely eerie. As @Snowflower mentioned, I like the idea of adding a new room theme to the B&B. Perhaps @lacunafiction might solicit some ideas and pick one or two for the series?
Daisy: Sorrow
Rose: Fear
Jasmine: Anger
Poppy: Anger
@Lambkin Thank you for linking this ask! Apparently J can do Math also which makes sense. It fits with his personality and I agree that they are a sweetie.
I think this is a good theory. I can see her returning to âtake over.â She would want the prestige for herself and for R. Perhaps that is why she does not like the MC returning and perhaps becoming involved with R? She wants someone âbetterâ for them?
I did not have an MC stay in that room. That sounds like an interesting room effect.
I think this is an interesting idea. While its obvious that Ms. Verner likes to be in control, I think sheâs also more complex of a character than that. She clearly knows more about whatâs happening in Fernweh than sheâs letting on, and I would be willing to bet that whatever is going on in town is a part of why she returned/stayed. (I also wouldnât be surprised if the weirdness of town is related to her need to be in control.)

I like the idea of adding a new room theme to the B&B.
The âCozy Constructionâ and âSleepy Smithâ room themes were joke themes that were rich in iron decorations that would thwart W/the SL if they are Fair Folk.
Of course MC could sleep in that room and still sleep horribly because B/J/R/S (the platonic/romantic sleep partner for MC) snores like a chainsaw/jackhammer hybrid.
First off, again I have to thank Lacuna for this amazing and wonderful story. I finally played through all of the LI paths and each one was incredible. Still think my favorite LI is R. They are my little M&M, a hard shell but, once you get through that you find sweet goodness inside. I am also fascinated by the W. Is she evil? Could she end up being what saves us from Fernweh? Only time will tell. All I know for certain is, with Lacunaâs writing, it will probably not be anything that we are expecting. Last comment for now. It is so gratifying to me to see the commitment to this story by all of the readers out there. Every time I come to the Forum, I see the TFS Discussion Thread has another 20, 30, 40 or more comments. That this story has this much of a buy in by all of us readers and generates so many interesting discussions is something that Lacuna should be incredibly proud of.
During the Chapter 8 nightmare, where did your MC sit, who was their server, and what flowers were at the table?
Arthur: in the hostâs place, âBeccaâ, asters
Laurel: in the place for an outsider, âReeseâ and later Mal arrived as a guest, snapdragons
Roz: in the place for a guest, âJamesâ and âReeseâ, carnations and forget-me-nots

During the Chapter 8 nightmare, where did your MC sit, who was their server, and what flowers were at the table?
- Marcie: In a guest seat, âSilasâ (with Mal arriving as a guest later), and snapdragons.
- Maggie: In the hostâs place, âBeccaâ, and striped carnations+forget-me-nots.
- Fiona: At the foot of the table, âJaneâ and âRubyâ (with Mal arriving as a guest later), and a daisy.
- Diana: In an outsiderâs spot, âJamesâ, and forget-me-nots.

This book truly brings people together. Itâs because no one can leave Fernweh

During the Chapter 8 nightmare, where did your MC sit, who was their server, and what flowers were at the table?
Vivian: In a guest seat, âJamesâ, a daisy.
Amari: In the hostâs place, âReeseâ (with Mal joining later), striped carnations
@swilson50125 I saw your comment about R early this morning, and itâs been on my mind all day. That sounds like a deliciously perfect description for them; I also saw from other players how R seems to soften more during romance with the more touching choices too. He is just in need of some melting; there is not a black M&M (for the suit!), so I wonder what color would be second best?
I hypothesize that there is a lot more to that choice about the seat at the table; it seems like that applies to a lot of things in this series! Even the way SL changes the role is different based on your MCâs. I actually made a note of how it uses ellipses and a question mark for the hostâs spot; I may attach it later, but did anyone else notice this? The punctuation changes, maybe to suggest tone until we can meet them, um, in âpersonâ? @snowflower, @lambkin, @Nemureru_Mori . There are a lot of stubborn MCs here!
For me it was:
Daisy: In a guest seat, âBeckettâ (so creepy!), a daisy (obviously)
Jasmine: In a outsiderâs seat, âJames and Reeseâ, snapdragons
Poppy: In the hostâs place, âJamesâ (with Mal crashing later), striped carnations
Rose: I I think it was at the foot of the table or on the edge, âSilasâ, asters
I was thinking a red M&M, for Angelique.
I honestly had not even noticed the punctuation changes at the table scene. Dang, now I have to go back to take a look at this as well. Darn Lacuna, layer after layer after layer of the Ferweh âonionâ. You really are an amazing writer.
Does anyone else have independent, nowhere-implied-in-the-game-itself bits of headcanon for their characters? For instance, I canât imagine my J-mancer not trying to get in touch with J after leaving town, much like J tried to get in touch with her. So my headcanon is that there are two stashes of old, intercepted letters hidden in Fernweh, and eventually, once this is all over, the authors will sit down together and finally get to read them.
Doesnât explain the lack of phone calls. Maybe long distance calls canât reach Fernweh because of spookiness.
