Well… Ashen isn’t really just some “island king.” Any other human trying to absorb the power of even just one single small dragon core would just go poof lol.
But regardless, the theoretical limit of how powerful the Warden can get is basically how powerful Azgor was. Even now, their current dragon form would still be no more than a annoying pest to Azgor’s original body.
But who knows what might happen to a mortal body after trying to wield that much power…
No, the south is an artificially frozen land. No one knows exactly why it happened, and very few who went there ever returned. Cassiel is one of them, there’s a dialogue where he talks about it:
“My first assignment as Imperial Researcher was to investigate the southern lands, specifically, to determine the cause of their unnatural frost.”
You knew about the region he meant. Idius had told you before: south of Aurelia, the lands should grow warmer. They do, until, without warning, the terrain becomes a frozen wasteland. Snow, ice, and permafrost where there should be jungles and sun-baked cliffs.
“I was sent with a team, four colleagues and two soldiers for protection,” Cassiel continued. “We didn’t make it far before realizing the frost wasn’t natural. Even under the southern sun, the ice remade itself faster than it could melt. The magic was self-sustaining, endlessly fed by some unknown source.”
He leaned forward slightly, voice quieting. “Deeper in, things grew stranger. Forests made entirely of translucent ice, trees that shimmered like glass but groaned like wood. And creatures... beasts sculpted from frost, walking and breathing as if alive.”
“We kept going. And then, through the blizzard, we saw it. A silhouette, massive, haunting. A castle, larger than anything I’d ever laid eyes on, half-buried in snow and wind. And above it…”
He trailed off for a second. “A dragon. Enormous. Just a shadow in the storm… and yet the power it radiated—” He shook his head. “Before we could react, it struck. The two soldiers and one of my colleagues were flash-frozen where they stood. Not frostbite, statues, in the span of a heartbeat.”
He exhaled through his nose. “The rest of us fled. I don’t know if that thing followed. We didn’t stop flying until the snow was gone.”
You felt Azgor stir sharply in the back of your mind, unusually attentive. He didn’t say anything, but you could feel his focus sharpening with every word.
“When we returned,” Cassiel went on, “the war against Azgor had begun. The Emperor redirected me to a new task: studying dragons. All of them. It was a desperate attempt at finding a way to kill the black dragon.”
That’s true, I forgot there’s no way to zoom in inside the game. I did a bit of editing this morning, I’ll test how it looks in the WIP later, but it should be more legible now.
Hey, sorry to bother but could you please update the main post with the update ? I didn’t know there was a new update, finding updates in comments can easily led to missing them.
I recommend checking out the high-res version if you’re interested in the finer details, some of them don’t show very well at this size. But that’s it for now, the lore behind everything will have to wait until next update.
Edit: fixed the broken link, new link isn’t as high resolution as the previous, but should stay up now. Hopefully.
Good question, but unfortunately they won’t be included in the codex update.
As far as people in this world know, there’s some kind of structure jutting out of the sea, surrounded by a heavy mist, but that’s all. Sailors refuse to get close because of the risk of running the ship into something and getting stuck there, as well as its proximity to the Dragonfell Mountains.
There’s also something north of Lyfadel, some kind of structure hidden in the jungle. The people of Akastin have only ever caught glimpses of it by using familiars.
Both of these locations are things you’ll have to explore personally in the future to learn more about.
