The Brightest Stars (70k Words -- Updated 1/18/26)

I’m happy to be back and be able to share more with you!

Thank you for your feedback!

I’m glad that you’ve been enjoying the setting, I’m quite proud of it if I do say so myself. The MC’s family dynamic is something that I’ve poured a lot of effort into, and so I’m glad that it’s being appreciated by y’all.

Lux as the single RO is a risk, I know, but I think it will pay off! It allows me to explore the MC’s relationship with them to a deeper extent.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Small criticism, but in the scene where Lux wants to punish the maid but MC convinces them not to I wish MC had a reaction to be upset with Lux’ reaction.

Right now the only options are assuring them that you’re fine or thanking them for not whipping the maid, which both feel really non-confrontational to me. I wish MC had a reaction like “WTF are you doing?” And then storming off.

Otherwise I really liked it!

yep it’s a risk, my MC is still pretty angry with Lux. They’ll have to do something really impressive at the hunt to smooth things over.

I’ll second the MC’s family dynamics being particularly appealing! The approval from her parents when she mentioned talking Lux down from punishing the maid was ideal.

I definitely understand the risk of Lux as the only RO but I support it 100%. It allows a level of depth that isn’t normally there, and I’m very excited to see where it goes!

Echoing all the sentiment about welcoming you back! I was surprised when I started reading the description, and founs myself thinking it sounded familiar, only for it to be the return of this intriguing WIP. Glad to read that you’ve landed on your feet, and are in a better headspace.

Now for the feedback! I do see some very small differences in this new version of the WIP, but if anything they count as an improvement in the areas they show up. One of the things in both the old, and now newer versions of the demo I thought was odd, was the MC’s response to the idea of hunting. In specific; if they already dislike the ritual where a cow is sacrificed (regardless of gender), why would they change tune for the bloodsport of hunting? It sticks out as a bit incongruous. They could like the idea of supporting the common folk, but hunting is still killing animals, which isn’t enough to compromise on for some readers. My own MC would dislike the idea of killing the animals, and also hate the idea of being outside in general, despite what people expect of him as a boy. It’ll be a little gloomy to disappoint Lux so soon after being acquainted, but the prince will learn who my quiet, bookworm MC is over time, not in a mere few days.

Food for thought on whether you want to expand the options in that area of the demo while continuing your way forward at your own pace. I’m looking forward to what you have in store for us with future updates. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

About halfway through I realized that I’ve seen this before… and now I see that it’s a sort of reupload.

Welcome back! I’ve enjoyed it very much, and I wish you the best of luck going on. I’m certainly going to follow along.

This seems really interesting so far! I will say, if you want to do one RO then I support you. But, the level of variability within the Lux will be more important than in games with multiple ROs. If my character is shy, then Lux should react differently than if she was outgoing, etc.

This will make it more fun to replay the game. Replayability is very important in IF, and you don’t have ROs that can add that element

Thanks for your feedback. I can see where you’re coming from with that. After this smaller update patch I’m writing now, I’ll patch that in!

Hopefully they can soon earn your MC’s forgiveness haha.

Thank you! I love writing the MC’s family. The approval of Alaric and Eulia was a nice little moment that I enjoyed including.

I appreciate your support with Lux being the only RO. I can’t wait to share more with you!

This is a good point! I’ll work on making the MC’s language more neutral originally for the hunt and give them the option to express distaste later on. I’ll do this after I finish the next small update patch!

Thank you my friend! I’m glad to have you on board

Yes, I can see where you’re coming from here. There is going to be replayability here because of the different gender combinations and the role gender plays in the story, which is why I’ve included these factors. As for how Lux treats a shy MC vs outgoing, I will take that into consideration.

I also like the idea of having only one RO. It’s similar to something I have in mind for a future project, an idea I’ve had for decades, where the main RO is central to the story. It also takes place over the course of years, and the latter part is during wartime, so there is long-term separation. Your character falls in love, which is not by choice, but there will come a point where you can choose to break off the relationship (your character’s father strongly disapproves). In that event there may be other available ROs (your character’s father tries to fix you up with them), but those relationships simply won’t be as deep. It will also be possible to reunite with your original love at the end, even if you’ve been separated.

I believe in you! Just remember that some people will exclusively play certain gender combinations. Some people will only play male-male, some will only play female-male (myself included), etc.

Oh I remember reading your story a while back. Very glad you are back.

I love the worldbuilding. The ritual with the scales, the prophecies in particular I enjoy a lot. I am interested in hearing the other’s prophecies like our father’s.

Lux particularly I really like how you did them. Altering their interactions based on their gender and the protagonist gender is detailed and creative.

That sounds awesome man, I’d read the hell out of that.

I really wouold encourage everyone to play with more than one combination for the maximum experience, but I also understand why you wouldn’t want to do that. While that will be a major part of replayability, other aspects, such as corruption level, should also add to it.

Thank you, friend!

I’m glad that the prophecies intrigue you! They’re a major part of each character’s identity and play a massively important role in the world, so the reader caring about them is definitely important.

I’m also really glad that you like Lux! They have such a special place in my heart, I truly adore them. Altering their interactions based on gender is a bit of a pain to write and code, but I think that it’s very worth it for the story I want to tell.

Thank you! It’s a historical epic set in America in the 1850s and 1860s, but it would probably take me years to write it, so it’ll be a while before I get to it.

I also like the idea of prophecies, and I have plans for a series where you play a prophet of humble origins who ultimately influences great empires.

not only code, but my Lux here is ‘she’

Yes, that is a depiction of raw code that I forgot to code in. I’ll fix it in the next update patch. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Thank you, my friend! I’m very happy to be back.

I understand the desire for another RO, I truly do. But my outline for the game, and all the plans I’ve laid out, only work if Lux is romanced. I would basically have to reconstruct the entire game in order to add more ROs. I’m sorry to dissapoint :frowning:

I remember the part about the cow from a different wip I read a long ago, glad to see it back; I have a lil complain tho, I’d like to be able to unlock the choices about our sister and her fiance other than in the men-cow part, seems like a good sub-plot but there’s only one path for it rn.

Hi everyone! A while ago, I commissioned concept art for Lux from the amazingly talented @enspey. This art of Lux is how they would appear at the end of arc 2, when they’re eighteen years old. This is concept art, not official art that is set in stone, but it does fit one of my visions of Lux. Enspey did an absolutely wonderful job bringing them to life.

I’ll upload it right now:
