The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - An affair of the heart (WIP) (Ch 6.1: 31 jan 2025)

There is not a choice in the beginning to be asexual, but there are friendships, probably two platonic “routes”, and relationships without sex.
But I am hesitant to add a game version where all the romantic content is hidden from the player, mostly because it would be hard to do in such a romance heavy game.

And of course, yes, sex scenes would be able to be fade to black :relaxed:

It’s up to you since some people might not be interested in that i think i for one already has my eye on the uptight haughty lord/lady. Oh yeah, is the s*x scene explicit or implicit for those horny dogs out there?

Maybe I am explaining my idea badly. Sorry I am going to try and be more clear.

If the player is a woman lesbian, then all the ROs will be women (meaning they would fit what the MC likes), and the sexuality of the ROs would be fixed so that they also like the MC, but not necessarily Pan or bi. L: gay, W:gay, A: pan, H: pan.

If the player was straight man it would be women ROs. L: straight, W: pan, A: pan, h: pan.

And nonbinary players ROs would be all pan, I think.

Hmmm um unsure as of now. I wrote a test snippet the other day but I don’t think I can post that here  probably focusing more on emotions, but also hopefully clear as to what is happening ?

Yeah, I’m just asking since i encounter some interesting stories here that has some spicy stuff that a child must never read since it’s 18+. If so i advise you to move the thread to the adult section. Then what would happen if the MC is bisexual attracted to both? Then you would have to add a randomizer to gender mixed the characters.

Right okay, so the nonbinary MC’s ROs would all be pan then :+1: thank you

Yeah so right now if the player chooses that they like both men and women or don’t care about their partners gender they get a mix. I’m thinking of adding a manual option for choosing the ROs genders also

Yeah, that would be the simplest way of making it more streamlined to make the code easier and saves a lot of trouble in coding since nasty stuff with all those errors, bugs and whatnot.

I liked that the romances on Dragon Age 2 were bi actually, i also prefer playersexual or pansexual ROs.

And what would playersexual mean in this instance, for you for example? Because I think what I am proposing might be a form of playersexual—only more varied than all pan or either straight/gay  (sorry if it’s confusing I’m not sure I am making sense, I really appreciate you telling me your thoughts :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:)

I like that idea! But even if you write everyone as pan you could still write certain scenes for specific pairings, no? For exemple, even if you made Lestrade pan instead of gay/straight you could still include a scene that is different depending if mc is male, female or nb.

I agree since you could still add texture and flavor unique to that RO.

So without spoiling too much, one scene I had in mind with gay Lestrade was that they thought they wanted a opposite sex partner and the archetypal family for that time, like society told them (because it is the Victorian era). But that with the MC they came to accept they could never have been happy in that life.

So it hinges on them not wanting an opposite sex partner and not being able to be attracted to that.

(It would probably makes more sense if I spoiled more but I’d rather not say more yet. Sorry)

The only downside to this is that cast diversity is sometimes sacrificed in these scenarios. Even wanting more RO, I still desire a diverse NPC cast, so the story is more interesting to me.

Perhaps offer a random RO option, so a person can chose one setting for the first play-through, and then chose another for a second or later play-throughs.

Maybe add that scene to their route if they’re gay but still keep it open?

I could have it so the player can choose a diverse cast, against the players preference, but not against the MCs? as I have written it and planned it the MC will always be able to find the ROs attractive and the ROs will always find the MC attractive.

Would that work?

Maybe I don’t understand, but what would be the difference? The player only learns what the game tells them and if Lestrade tells the MC they are gay, then are they not gay?

Maybe look up in other people’s work like wayhaven for example as reference if your looking for a way to implement your idea. But i favor the option of just deciding their gender like Creme de la creme.

Meaning that MC preference and ROs gender isn’t tied?

I could do that. But I am afraid it might be a lot more work

I’m afraid I am wrestling with some of these same things in my WiP… so far, there are no easy answers. I thought about ditching romance completely, but that just doesn’t seem to be a viable solution

So far, I am leaning towards keeping the RO how I originally planned them, so that I keep my story’s continuity from beginning to end…

Sorry I could not offer a straight-forward answer.
