Telltale Games shut down--and was just bought and "revived"?

They say one of the reason was because the license deal with Netflix fell through

sad to hear . Don’t have much opinion about them…since I only ever played one game from them . It was uh…Tales of the borderland ? the one with dialogues choices , with crazy Jack . And it was a hilarious fun game !

Always hoped they make a sequel to that one…but never happend . Oh well…guess these things do happen .

And perhaps another reason

I hope they sell their engine. There is a lot of potential there for the right fingers.

I hope so, although the chances of them doing it is pretty low

It’s very sad but not completely surprising. I read an article a few months ago that had mentioned some darkness looming for then; I think they had some layoffs or closed a satellite studio. I guess Stranger Things was the Hail Mary and then it got slapped down.

Hard to believe they did the rise and fall thing so fast. Sure, they existed since the mid 2000s, but they only hit it big less than a decade ago. Guess that overamibitous growth will get you like that.

Oh wow, I had no idea, it’s very sudden. That’s really sad for all the people who worked there.

They overextended themselves and in the end it bit them. Bit of a shame but it’s more to do with mismanagement rather than a lack of interest in interactive storytelling

Bit of a Shame about the sun exploding and engulfing the earth but thats what stars do.

Telltale was working with a niche market but they sold a lot of products that don’t necessarily have audience overlap. I’ve played The Wolf Among Us because I enjoyed the source material, but I never played The Walking Dead because I don’t enjoy that. Their games are niches within niches. The stories for their games are adaptation, not innovation

I’ve played everything walking dead, Game of thrones ( an ip I hate with a passion ) ,wolf among us, Minecraft, Batman, if they made my little pony I’d still get it because I love their games

crap i loved telltale but i am not Surprised Telltale has been in financial trouble for a while now I had hoped that they would bounce back shame too considering they were one of the only companies in industry who honestly cared about stories in video games as opposed to shiny Graphics and loot boxes

While i’m sad to hear this tell tale has been dead since after they released wolf among us. They quality in their games and stories went way down and they spread themselves too thin. It also couldn’t of been cheap to buy the rights to make batman and guardians of the galaxy ips. I wish they would of just focused more on what they had instead of trying to get as big as they wanted to be. To this day walking dead and wolf among us are stories i remember fondly. Shame it had to end this way.

It’s sad to see TellTale go like this, and doubly sad to hear that several of their series will never receive an ending, especially the Walking Dead which is so close… :crying_cat_face:

While I’m not a fan personally. And think the illusion of choices, and that the choices really didn’t matter in the end. Making most of the games utterly pointless, I think this was too abrupt. Has to be more to it than a license fall out. Right?
