Tales of an Orphan

The death scene when you fail at the rope part, it is great. I replayed it just to read the description again, very vivid. Though it is a shame that the game won’t have a gender option.

@VoodooDolly Glad you enjoyed the writing!

Oh, there will definitely be a female option. I want put to more effort on the female option instead of simply changing ‘he’ to ‘she’, so that means unique choices. For example, the attempt to summon a deep voice is only available to males but females have a different option.

In other news, just overhauled and removed any fake choices. Any choices you make will always be tracked, either temporary or permanently. I’ve also decided to make choices like choosing to rush or take it slow have the appropriate chances. So that means if you take it slow, you’re more likely to get across but still have a chance of death whereas choosing to rush, you’re more likely to get seen or die but still have a chance at getting across.

Now there’s a risk factor but more balanced depending on what you pick in the prologue. Hopefully anyway. The RNG can be cruel.

Currently working on writing/coding the rest of the choices up to the first major event. This also includes a fair amount of dialogue. When that’s done, I will update the link with improved coding. Should be uploaded later today or by tomorrow if all goes well.

@Marius,
I think this change is a good one. Although, when I play this game when it is finished, I am NOT choosing the rigging option. (I still died lol).

How are you doing on the coding? I’m looking forward to the next bit. I know in my game it feels like I spend more time squashing bugs than I do actually writing.

@wolfwriter20 Coding is going well so far. Fingers crossed. Had issues with the dialogue system but after spending time on it; I have something basic in place so that will do for now. Will probably go back and revise once prologue is done.

With the bugs, I find it much easier once you encounter them a few times. It ends up being - read the error message, know exactly what is wrong and fix it.

Anyhow, my original estimate of finishing the prologue this week looks way off the mark but that’s mainly because it’s now going to be much bigger and involved to playthrough than I originally envisioned it to be.

Yeah, my problem with the bugs is that I have been doing quite a bit of copy and pasting and so sometimes its easy to miss the bug (usually an indentation error or I put a space instead of an underscore).

I completely understand the game becoming much bigger…I know with my game that there is no way I am going to have chapter one completely finished by the end of this month, so I am going to post what I have at the end of this week to get some feedback. Point is, it is much better to do what is necessary to make a good game/tell a good story, no matter how long it takes. Good luck!

I WILL reach Korea!!!
Or the wilderness, either one.
The prolouge was awesome! Keep up the good work!

Hey @Marius, you’ve been quiet for awhile. Thought I would check in and see how things are going. :slight_smile:

Im sick, so I havnt done anything today. Just got on now to look at stuff. I will play your game tomrorrow. sorry for being so slow!

Hello @wolfwriter!

This project is in hibernation while I work on a smaller CoG focused on moral choices and relationships. So far I’ve almost completed the prologue. I would say around 75% for Tales of an Orphan prologue. Expect an update late september/early October depending on RL.

The reason it’s in hibernation is that I had an idea that I both love and want to work on but I will come back to ToaO if only to release the complete prologue.

How have you been?

@Antitopiliko

Don’t worry about it! :slight_smile:

YESSSS! :smiley:

Ok so I got a 404 error alot of the time. besides the time I slipped and died… But another boat story? sounds sweet! I’d love to see more of this my friend! I’d like to see where this goes. and while I think a death this early is…bad, I can see where youre coming from with it. but Now i will try going a non rope way to get some food.

Ok seems like a lot of todo’s and i ask that you do them. good so far. Lets see more of it!!! :smiley:

Enjoying it so far. I’d just like to see what happens next without dying.

Hello? Anybody there?

Hi. I am still here. Never left.

To clarify: Busy with life but still working on this. A lot of it is do with the world building, the setting, characters and so on. What was shown earlier was a concept and now I am taking it into a tangible form which I can drape the story over like a blanket.

While I am doing that, I am also working on a second game. It’s a Sci-Fi setting but with a twist. I am currently coding and writing the first chapters for the second game and when that’s done, I will finish off the prologue for Tales of an Orphan.

Time estimation? Honestly, I have no idea. I am pushing myself to have something to show before next year.

I hope that answers any concerns.

Okay. I was just wondering where you’d been and where you were. Thanks for answering.

Where, with the game.
