Tale of Two Cranes (Out March 7)

I’ve had a really hard time with raising stats and relationships in this one and figuring out what’s actually important. Near the end, the game described my relationship with Cha Ming as ‘you never tried to be close with him’ when I was personally under the impression that after being a little suspicious only at the very start, I’d tried to be friends with him at every opportunity… I wasn’t romancing him and sometimes I tried to raise my friendship with other people, but is there really no way to be friends with more than one person?? I noticed that by the end of the game, all the other characters had scores in the 40s and descriptions of “they don’t care for you very much” or the like. I was playing a very nice friendly guy type of character and I thought I’d done my best to be a good friend to all these people. The only character who had a good score was my spouse Dai Heng and I didn’t even go out of my way to spend time with him at all. Even then he was only 60 or so.

I wasn’t able to become Emperor even with cheating in stats and relationships. Did all emperor and empress events, did army and court events and it still didn’t work.
EDIT: forgot to say that I’ve also married Liu’s daughter

I got a similar result with everybody, but they all showed up during the chapter 5 planning session as allies, And that was while treating all of them like companions and such

Supporting the army, right now, doesn’t work because you can’t do the guild events - you need to do all Emperor events, one Empress event plus marriage, and all court events.

It’d probably be nice if we got some feedback on the requirements in-game, of course. Not all of our readers are code hounds. XD

In the pursuit page all of the choice outcomes are mixed up. For example if your stats are high enough to convince Chan Ming to ignore his gut(which is what the text indicates) he’ll still force you both to go back to camp. Also when you click convince the general to go back to camp it indicates that you convince him to go alone. And without all of you pursuing you don’t seem to be able to capture Xiang alive. And if you don’t capture him alive it seemingly skips straight to the crowing of whichever one you supported no matter how much you do to make the third the Emperor. Actually that brings about another question I thought I did everything right in getting the third emperor choice more power. But I still wasn’t able to make her Emperor. What exactly do I have to do to make her Emperor? Or is it not possible with the bugs right now?

I’m having trouble playing the game. When I choose “Play Online,” it takes me to a page with no content, and if I try to hard ‘restart’ through the Menu, the page freezes. Do you have any suggestions?

How you modded stats?

Hi everyone! SharpOne and I have been working on some bug fixes, adding additional chapter saves, and making some guides to commonly asked topics.

I’ve finished a guide on how to become heir to the throne in chapter 5 but I don’t know how to upload it. I wrote it in google docs and I tried to convert it to a few different formats, but nothing is sticking. Any ideas?

@Yen_Lag By infiltrate do you mean in chapter 4? After capturing the spy and getting the key phrase?
@Ramidel Thanks for pointing that out. That temp variable is a bug and the army bug has also been found and squashed. We have sent an updated version to COG. If you did well enough to meet a certain threshold the Empress will make you Chancellor, but the line where it says you told her anything was removed.
@Sujan_Dhakal We are working on adding chapter saves at the end of all chapters after the demo. Also, for the final test of the rank, we are taking a look at it to see if we can change it a bit easier.
@Nathan_Wolverton SharpOne is working on a guide to this as it is quite complex, but it has to wait until her next day off.
@Aorta1 The Consort and son you killed were illegitimate. The younger heir he selects is his son by the Empress.
@monroe_mcadoo SharpOne is working on a guide for this section as it is quite complex. Hopefully maybe in the next day or two we’ll have it ready.
@Loren You can be on good terms with everyone at the same time. If you can recall, what were some of the choices you made?
@Nyc789 We are working on checking these. Someone else also let us know something weird was going on. For the Emperor choice right now, each option has a certain number of turns that you have complete tasks in. For Ying Shixi to become heir: you need to be successful in 2 emperor tasks, all 3 army tasks, and 2 court tasks all in 11 turns.
@VelvetDivine You’ll need to make a bug report with COG.

Just drop a link to the doc?

I play chapter 5 13 time and i am not become ruler with max status

Thank you for replying. But I didn’t mean making Ying Shixi heir. There’s a way to make Ying(a hold out from the Qin dynasty) the Emperor correct? Or did I mix that up? That’s what I’m looking for. Of course if I’m incorrect and they’re supposed to become Emperor later not in Chapter 3 then please tell me. Because right now no matter how much support I give them I can’t seem to make the third Emperor choice the Emperor.

@Ramidel Thanks! I learned something new

Ok here is my guide.

I made this today so it is very up to date, but if anyone has any questions or sees an error please let me know.

@Nyc789 Ying Quliang cannot be Emperor in chapter 3. She is secretly building her forces and doesn’t become a known enemy until it’s (almost) to late. This happens in Chapter 4 where you can start discovering her presence and aide, expose, or fail to stop her. There is a bug in this right now so intentionally putting her on the throne isn’t possible until the next update goes through.

@Abhi_Naskar It does depend on which Emperor you have (which is a little buggy with Ying Quliang). Take a look at this guide and see if that helps at all.

Thank you!! Now I understand because it seemed no matter what I tried in chapter 4 it wouldn’t work. I’ll just wait until the update then to try to get her on the throne.

Should mention. With LB, you only have to complete one Empress task for her support if you marry properly. So just blackmail her without killing the consort.

(another bug discovered for squashing: You can romance Liu but stay unmarried, and still be a valid candidate)

Also, I’m not sure whether this is intentional, but you get Emperor support if you succeed in pushing your vision on the regs - regardless of whether this aligns with his. You can sponsor freeing the Yong Shi and still get Liu Bang’s support.

Right now if you reply chapter 3 it keeps your stats from before you entered chapter 4. You can do this cycle over and over until you have maxed out all your stats. (This only happens with combat stats, not knowledge ones, faction approval, or relationships).

Def unintentional, but I actually appreciate that the exploit is there since the right choice is often more important than the right stats, and it’s one less thing to worry about in a massive playthrough that would be insane to restart for a mistake.

Does anyone know how to get a happy ending with Chan Ming? :face_holding_back_tears: Or is there any guide for romances with the major stats and choices we would need?

Will Cheats ever be added to the game? I really like the story, but given that almost every choice is a test of skill, it’s hard to relax. I would gladly buy this if it was released as an add-on.

I think the happiest one is uniting the spirit world with China. You basically put him under house arrest after depriving him of the fake crane. That turns him into a “shell of himself”, so it’s not very happy. I think you might need a high meditation stat for it but I’m not sure.

Also, I haven’t tried all the endings but I think that was the most positive outcome I found.

Thanks for the response! So there are no real happy endings with him? That’s so sad :disappointed:
