Itch Demo Up
All right there’s the itch demo up for the people that want to use that. It was a little bit of a pain to set up but not bad. Let me know your thoughts on itch and let me know how this demo works.
Wow! I really appreciate your enthusiasm, this is a lot to dive into!
First up: thanks for pointing out that error. I’ll get right on that. You also pointed out some big chunks of text, pronoun mistakes and some confusing gaps in logic. Also very helpful, I’ll take a look at those as well.
Second: Wine=Vampire??? Captain Seta just likes himself a nice glass of wine and he’s generous enough to share. I know it not very spacey or sci-fi but just like beer, wine has been a part of human culture since prehistory. When we venture out into the stars will we no longer enjoy a relaxing glass of wine after a long day or a cold refreshing glass of beer on a hot day? A lot changes, some things never do.
Third: I understand it’s not high octane action all the time. It’s a lot of buildup right now, I know. But your question of when it gets to the “actual story” felt a little rude. All of the paths will be more sci-fi slice of life type stories, not exactly action driven, though all paths will have high action moments like the merchant finale. I agree the merchant path could use a bit of punching up and intend to rework the path before the game releases. The final act, when you become a star pilot will be much more action focused.
I suppose my artistic vision of the paths was for them to immerse and ground players in the world before you get to the more action heavy sections. I hoped players would feel their MC is well rounded, and attached to the world. And that would lead to a more immersive, enjoyable experience. I truly hope it doesn’t come off as meandering, all steak no sizzle.
All in all, I really do appreciate your enthusiasm and feedback. It’s a very important part of the process. Please continue to provide it.
I thought you’d referred to the story so far as a “backstory”, which begs the question of when the full story begins. But looking back, you called it an “origin story”, and I misremembered.
That’s on me. I’m sorry about that.
I think this a good approach. I’ve played some WIPs lately that don’t do this, and they have felt distant. What you’ve laid out here is well-grounded. I feel like I have a good sense of the world and how the MC fits in.
Yes, I’m operating under the assumption that anyone who drinks wine is a vampire. It’s probably true, but I admit there is some room for doubt.
I don’t want to alarm you, but I’m actually drinking a glass of wine right now…
Appreciate your support!
Future Updates
I’m planning on three more updates to the Navy path to fully wrap it up. The next update for the Navy Path should be done within the next week. Get your feet under you at the Academy. Meet some new characters and potential love interests. Earn some useful and fun new perks.
Then in the penultimate update you’ll pick your specialization and finish your time at the academy. Say goodbye to friends and love interests to start a new chapter. As a fully fledged new officer get your first assignment. Marine, fighter pilot and deck officer will have will be totally unique branches.
The final update will ramp up the action for a big finale with an opening bout against the main antagonist of the game Pirate King Corgill Smoot. Of course the three specialization will have unique finales. And that will wrap up the Navy Path.
What will be next can be decided when this is all fully wrapped up.
Looking forward to playing the complete Navy route!
18k Navy Path Update
The update should be playable both on CoG Demos and Itch. Let me know if you encounter any bugs, errors or typos. It’s always very helpful.
This update introduces three new romance options, including two alien romances. I would highly advise you to start a new save if you have already romanced a character this path.
I appreciate your support and welcome feedback and discussion. Any questions about the new update or anything let me know.
Cheers!
Ah, so you have chosen to humor us alien lovers and gave us some of that galactic bonding experience
Yeah just let me know when the check’s in the mail.
I been looking forward to trying a new path. I enjoyed merchant path and meeting the crew especially the captain who looked after his crew and made every trip fun. His death hit me hard.
I hope this new path is just as good.
The Navy path isn’t complete. But there should be plenty to sink your teeth into!
Either I missed the warning, or should would put a warning that says male MC’s can’t romance Numa (I think that’s the commandant of the cadets name is in the academy)
Will there be an opportunity for our parents to have an impact on the story like if the MC’s parents were in the navy the navy will treat us differently?
That`s actually a good point. We should get similar treatment as one of the recruits who has navy parents. Actually we should get a special scene for choosing the same path our parents on all jobs
Sorry about that. I’ve added a romance tab that I will update with any new romances.
When I wrote that choice I definitely intended it to have more impact. Somewhere along the way it slipped through the cracks. It was never going to be hugely impactful, but it should have provided some unique dialogue about it. I still think it’s a fun idea and will attempt to fully implement it into each path in the future.
I think a cool little bit of flavor text for the earth parents, is that the MC is able to speak the language of we’re ever their parents are from on earth, and given how no one is really going to learn one of the hundreds of earths languages, it can be a great way of keeping secrets or prancing their friends by starting to talk in a language no one recognizes
Your parents background is in agronomy and botany. The choice determines where and how they used this background, before getting married and settling down on Verdant Bright. If you chose them to have a Navy background, they worked in hydroponics on a Fortress class battleship. They wouldn’t have earned you any special treatment, especially since they left the Navy more than twenty years ago. But I agree it should have impacted the story in some way, that was my bad and I will work to fix it.
I was kind of hoping for some kind of “I wanted to follow in my parents’ footsteps” option for joining the Navy there.
Thanks. I only wanted it being mentioned regardless of no special treatment
