This was a lot of fun, I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes next!
I do think that you could benefit from describing a little bit about MC as a person in your game description, or in the opening few game pages, or something along those lines. So far, they have a really strong personality of their own and it feels like I the player can’t influence who they are much, rather than just choosing their general actions. Personally that’s not my thing, so that was an unpleasant surprise. I can imagine it makes writing and coding easier with less complicated stuff to keep track of, so a really sensible decision! But it would be worth mentioning it for readers up-front.
I googled it and P-MC situation seems more like dissociative identity disorder (or split personality disorder as it used to be called). Schizophrenia is more like hallucinations, delusional perception etc.
Kinda. Split is pretty inaccurate. And to be fair, this story isn’t exactly trying to be a true representation of DID either. But at least it has the excuse of being more supernatural
Yeah, the narrative itself says multiple times MC and Paul are NOT a split personality deal. Plus, the whole super healing and metabolism thing is obviously not a part of DID
I mean arent we in a discussion board? Is it so wrong to discuss stuff and how it can relate to real life disorders (even if it is more supernatural like SPLIT the movie)?
Sure. Sorry I didn’t mean to sound like I was closing the discussion. I just thought it was kinda silly wanting to compare something like that to real life, but there’s nothing wrong with that
Lol yeah, I still don’t think DID fits at all tho. It’s the split of a core personality into one or more “alters”, but MC isn’t really an alter, they’re a fully fleshed out personality. A person completely different from Paul(a). Also, it’s usually developed thanks to severe trauma, which, from what we got of the story until now, Paul(a) didn’t really went through something like that
The “split” is of the body between two people, not of the mind of one person
But I’m far from a phycologist, I could definitely be getting something wrong
MC is definitely predefined as a person forced to grow up in the “care” of a cold-blooded criminal, in the unnegotiable bounds of the split, and in need of earning respect from other mafia members. With the background like that, they can’t start as anything else, but as the story progresses, they’ll have a chance to redefine themselves.
To add to the conversation, we’re absolutely not trying to depict any mental illness. If DID is mentioned in the narrative, it’s only because the characters are grasping for the closest thing they know to make sense of what’s happening to MC.
The story has supernatural elements, and as was mentioned, the split is far from the only extraordinary thing about MC.
And please don’t take our post as any attempt to cut the discussion. We just thought we should write this in case the game description is misleading in any way.
And apparently with absolutely zero fashion sense, which is the worst of it, imho, since it means only Paul gets to really have fun with the shared body’s apparently extremely good looks. And of course in the latest episode Paul just had to wreck the only nice possession the mc has, their motorcycle, now the mc’s life is really literally shit and they don’t have a single nice thing anymore.
And I never said I wanted mc to be preppy, like Paul, I just want mc to be able to have some style and not dress in ratty old sweatsuits or live like a total slob. Literally that motorcycle was the only nice thing mc owned, everything else they have seems to quite literally be trash, including their salvation army reject ratty sweatsuits. Some even have friggin holes in them. So, yeah, I’d like my mc to stop looking like a good looking bum, hopefully sometime well before the epilogue.
Indeed, only it has been mentioned that chapter 3 will be even more misery for the mc. Which is why I hope better things will come soon and not just in the (pen)ultimate chapters.
Why are so many people complaining about MC clothes :< They look good without P’s boring office outfits…
You can have a ride with Seb. He’ll punch Paul in the face and try to bring MC back with Pink Floyd music I like the choice of motorcycle, because later we can send message with insults Offensive messages to our “twin sibling” are just hilarious.
Well, I think authors mentioned that MC will have their own style eventually and start changing their life, so there’s nothing to worry about I think it will be our choice, to go in this direction or be a raccoon forever. I doubt it would happen in the epilogue, but a sudden change in habits from day to day would be weird.
