OH MY LORD, HOW DID I MISS THIS?!?! Creme de la Creme is my favorite COG game, and I’m only finding out there’s a sequel being written now?! I am disappointed in myself, but I can’t focus on that because this looks so good, and I’m so excited!!
Aww don’t be disappointed, be happy you discovered it! I hope you enjoy!
Fortnightly-ish update: I’ve lost track now of where I was at last time I posted about progress, but I’ve made very positive headway! I’ve completed my Chapter 5 and 6 revisions, and I’m more than halfway through coding Chapter 7.
Chapter 7 is the last chapter before the Verdancy holiday in Royal Affairs… leading up to Various Things hotting up during vacation. So this is going to be a relatively relaxed slice of life sort of chapter with low stakes but emotional scenes, and some hints for what’s to come.
How many chapters fo you have in mind?
Eleven in the outline, but it remains to be seen whether the remaining chunk of story will fit into four more chapters… Crème was meant to be twelve but ended up effectively thirteen due to the length of the first chapter.
That’s truly delightful to hear, thank you!! Yes, you will get to matchmake (if you want; they are both fairly tentative over it) Asher and Hyacinthe. You can pry into/matchmake Beaumont and Trevelyan’s relationship too. With Beaumont and Trevelyan you can also have a polyamorous romance if you wish!
Oh, I wanted to ask something about that (didn’t play the latest update yet though).
Ash is my favorite characters, and I’m going for that romance for my “canon playthrough” anyway. But I have been interested in another character too, and well, I wanted to know if the Ash/Hyacinthe thing is something that always happens if none of them is romanced, or if the player has to actively matchmake? I’m one of the people who has trouble playing if previously romanced ROs… romance each other?
So I’ll avoid other playthroughs if this happens, obviously.
Just asking to be sure what I can play and what I can’t!
So the intention is that (spoilers for things not in the demo!) Asher and Hyacinthe only have romantic overtones if the MC doesn’t initiate romance with either of them. It doesn’t become evident though until Chapter 6 (which isn’t in the demo currently), where if you haven’t done anything romantic with either of them, Hyacinthe sends Asher a letter asking them out. Asher comes to the MC basically saying “I’m obviously too professional to do anything about this, how do I let them down gently because I don’t want to be mean”.
The MC can actively encourage them by saying something like “you should go for it” and that would trigger the Asher/Hyacinthe romance, can say “don’t ask me, go for what feels right” (Bold Asher goes for it, Diffident Asher doesn’t), or can discourage them (you don’t have to be mean about discouraging them, though you can be if you want). So basically, an active romance (as opposed to being a bit star struck/admiring) only happens if an MC opts in.
Although you didn’t ask about other romances, I will say that Beaumont and Trevelyan can get together independently, and it isn’t opt in - it will happen if neither of them are romanced.
I hope all that makes sense!
It does make sense, thank you!
That’s okay as far as I’m concerned, as neither is a RO I’m interested in!
Thanks for the detailed explanation!
Hi! First of all, congratulation for the great job. I played CdlC last week and I had a lot of fun, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it that much cause I thought it wasn’t my genre at first, it was a pleasant surprise! I’ve played the demo of RA and the story seems just as good, and on a technical level I think it has improved a lot, especially the stats are way more straight forward and overall easier to understand and to use in dialogues.
I’m trying different scenarios to see if there are minor changes based on the choices made in the previous game, and I’m a bit confused about a particolar scenario.
I tried this scenario: C MC and Harmann are teachers (and engaged), Lady R is in prison, Gallatin was closed.
So apparently in this scenario all the teachers from Gallatin, including MC and Hartmann, moved to Archambault and they teach there. Pascal mentions both MC and Hartmann, calling them by their first name (which is an Archambault thing, if I understood correctly), saying that they’re too young for the position of headmaster. I think Mr. Blanchard is mentioned too at one point, his name’s Raphael right?
So I assumed that in this scenario Gallatin is incorporated in Archambault and everyone is staying at Archambault, maybe with different classes between Archambault students and ex Gallatin students, considering that the Gallatin teachers are there and I guess they teach the same classes they used to teach before (which are not part of Archambault program, if I’m not mistaken).
But then they mentioned this “New Gallatin” school that is not inside Archambault, and I was a bit confused, did they reopen the school or is it a new school entirely? If there is a New Gallatin, what are the former Gallatin teachers doing at Archambault? Maybe it was explained and I missed something.
Anyway, I think it’s really nice that we can incorporate some choices of the previous games, personally in my playthrough both MC and Hartmann went to Gessner, and the school stayed open, but I like this scenario with both of them teaching at Archambault, even without being mentioned, knowing that they’re around being the Dalca and Blanchard of Archambault seems fun lol (well now that I think about it Dalca and Blanchard are there too actually).
Again great job! Can’t wait to play the whole game.
Yep - when Gallatin’s closed, the old Gallatin teachers move to Archambault but they’d be teaching other Archambault-specific subjects. Miss Dalca might teach Politics, Mr Griffith might teach Linguistics or similar, and Mr Blanchard might teach Geography. Then a couple of years later after it closed, Ms Vogel sets up New Gallatin College on the same site as the original school.
If Archambault took over, the teachers stayed working at Gallatin, and a couple of years after Creme de la Creme, Pascal sold it to Ms Vogel to create New Gallatin.
I’ll look at clarifying. It’s a bit of a balancing act, because I want it to feel accessible both to people who played Creme and who didn’t - so I don’t necessarily want to go into loads of details about what happened if it doesn’t feel natural. But at the same time I want it to be clear!
Thank you for the clarification! I think I get it now.
MC and Hartmann would still teach in Archambault in this scenario, right? I tried it yesterday and they are both mentioned by Pascal, I guess it’s because they became teachers after Archambault took over, so they were hired directly by Pascal?
Yeah I totally get it, I was just a bit confused but it’s not that big of a deal, I guess it’s not easy to handle all the different implications of the choices made in the first game.
Thanks again!
Lol time for stupid question and it’s mainly because I can’t recall but who is Ms Vogel?
She takes over Gallatin if Lady R, Miss Dalca, Mr Griffith or Mr Blanchard aren’t in charge
Hello! I read/played CDLC maybe last year (or last 2 years), and it is my most favorite CoG. And I’m so happy that I found out today that there is a sequel coming! And also, may I ask a question? My MC only romanced Florin in CDLC and did not get engaged with anyone. In this sequel, will Florin and old MC still be together, or perhaps marry each other? Considering how Florin doesn’t like a serious relationship. That happening will be far more than satisfactory! Anyways, thank you for your hard work!
@NohVarr Thank you so much, I’m so glad you’re looking forward to this! It most likely won’t be specified one way or another, but currently if the Creme MC is teaching at Archambault and romanced Florin, they will be seen getting a letter at the Festival of the Birds and looking happy - so there’s room to interpret what feels right for your character!
@Hazel thank yooou! That’ll be corrected in the next update.
I’ve updated the Teaser demo! This version has the first chunk of Chapter 4, during which you’re going home for Hearthlight! It’s time to meet your family for the first time in months, but are problems stirring?
Happy holidays, all! I hope you’re having a comfortable winter season, and if not, that the coming year brings better things.
I’m playing the demo and it’s amazing! I absolutely love it. A lot is new to me because the last time i played it was the very first version of the demo - just chapter 1, i believe.
I wanna bring to your attention something that feels weird and might not be intended that way?
When you’re in the hotel (i believe it’s chapter 3 or maybe 2) and Dominique is late for the Council meeting, when they finally arrive, you can tell them not to worry, give them angry eyes, or calmly suggest you proceed.
My MC is a moderator, he prefers to be straight to the point but calm when not provoked, so that’s what i choose:
I calmly suggest we get on with the day.
And that’s what i get:
"Come on, Dominique, we should get moving," you snap, and Dominique looks chastened.
"No need to shout," he says, "I didn’t do it on purpose…"
It feels… really weird? The line doesn’t look like MC was intended to snap and shout at all, more like to calmly redirect everyone’s attention from judging Dominique to the matter at hand. Which my MC exactly wanted to do, and now he just hurt his mess of a sweetheart
Also a few typos:
You’ve rarely seen Silver do anything in classes other than $trotting at Javi’s heels, but Javi seems very fond of him.
You can see Dominique’s much-desired sapphire ring taking pride of place on his finger; it only took a brief letter to buy it for him in the end in the end.
You spot Beaumont and Trevelyan walking hand in hand towards the gardens; Their neighboring guests glance over at them every so often as their voices rise above the genteel chatter and murmur, but they seem to be enjoying themselves nonetheless.
(probably the unnecessary capital letter?)
“I hope Asher’s behaved well while you’ve been away?” Raimund says.
Second answer option: “He{asher_singular 's|'ve} been very kind.”
Asher nods back, and (the paragraph breaks off)
Josiane and Oliver link arms with you.
@Christian.Valentine Thank you so much, I’m really glad you’re enjoying it! And thank you for the feedback, it’s really helpful. I’ve put up an update with those things corrected, and have edited the Dominique scene a little to reflect the choice better (poor Dominique and MC!).
As a note, some people have had problems when loading saves, where one-on-one conversations with friends/love interests cause bugs to fire. It’s not something that comes up without loading saves, or when using RandomTest, which makes it tricky to resolve. I suspect my subroutine structure isn’t playing properly with the save plugin, and am not entirely sure whether it’s fixable - I will investigate further.
