Synopsis

It’s already been three years since demons began to ravage the world, leaving broken families and shattered dreams in their wake. People pray to the gods and beg for help, but they remain silent and ignore all prayers.

However, when fate causes the beasts of hell to knock on the doors of the humble town where you live, you discover that the gods have a plan, and that plan includes you. What would you be willing to give in exchange for ending the cycle of corruption and regain peace?

One life for another. Your soul for theirs.

This is a semi-linear slightly dark fantasy and romance interactive story, focused on the relationships and emotional connection between its characters. It is influenced by the Guanche culture, where you’ll navigate a fantasy world and face the destiny that the gods have chosen for you and your loved ones.

What do I mean when I say it’s a semi-linear story?

It means that, although there are variations and certain changes depending on your choices, the main plot and the most important scenes involving the main characters remain the same. Your decisions will allow you to influence various aspects and go through different branches that will affect the plot, but they won’t change the core of the story.

Basically, think of games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age.

Features

  • Customise the main character. Choose their gender, appearance, personality, combat style and occupation.
  • Build and maintain strong friendships with your companions.
  • Choose one of the five romance options available and experiment their story intertwined with the main plot.
  • Or stay single and just enjoy an epic adventure!
  • An extensive codex where all the important information about the story, characters, places and crucial objects will be kept, and it will be updated as you progress in the plot.
  • Important choices that will shape the destiny of each world and lead to different endings.

Romance Options

Remnants of The Past includes five romantic options.

Leire/Luca, the guard

Age: 28 years old
Height: 1,68m (5’6")
Species: Human
Build: Strong and muscular
Eye colour: Green
Hair colour: Red
Skin colour: Pale
Notable attributes: Scars all over the body
Weapon: Long sword and shield

A tireless warrior, as firm as the steel they wield and marked by war and loss. But they hold deep loyalties despite their tough exterior. If you have to choose someone to trust when things go wrong, without a doubt, it’s Leire/Luca.

Ada/Omar, the doctor

Age: 36 years old
Height: 1,76m (5’9")
Species: Human
Build: Slim. No muscle
Eye colour: Dark brown
Hair colour: Black
Skin colour: Black
Notable attributes: Mole under the left eye
Weapon: Magic

Sometimes they talk so much it feels like they’ll never stop. And sometimes, amid that noise, they say exactly what you need to hear.

They’re the kind of person who makes you laugh even when the world is falling apart. They’re smart and intense, capable of laughing at the world and then crying for it when no one’s looking. They have a special way of caring for everyone, even if they always pretend they don’t take anything seriously.

Albert/Lavina, the builder

Age: 34 years old
Height: Albert is 1,60m (5’3"), Lavina is 1,70m (5’7")
Species: Human
Build: Chubby
Eye colour: Green
Hair colour: Red
Skin colour: Pale
Notable attributes: Scar on the chest
Weapon: Great axe

Jovial and affectionate, Albert/Lavina always finds the good even in the darkest moments. A single look is enough for them to know if you need a hug, and they’re always ready to give it. It’s as if they carry a light inside them and insists on sharing it in pieces. You wouldn’t know what the group would do without them.

Rayco/Gara, the guardian

Age: 50,000 years old
Height: Rayco is 1,98m (6’6"), Gara is 2,00m (6’7")
Species: God
Build: Strong and broad-shouldered
Eye colour: Purple
Hair colour: Purple
Skin colour: Brown
Notable attributes: Freckles on cheeks, nose and all over their back
Weapon: Magic and spear

Kind to everyone around them and calm even in stressful situations. There’s something about then that interests you. You don’t know if it’s their peculiar hair colour, their exotic accent, or simply their personality, but you can’t help feeling at ease in their presence.

Belicar/Nisa, the renegade

Age: Unknown
Height: Belicar is 2,07m (6’10"), Nisa is 2,15m (7’0")
Species: Unknown
Build: Athletic
Eye colour: Left eye yellow with a crossed-shaped pupil. Right eye white with hints of a very dull blue, likely blind
Hair colour: White
Skin colour: Dull blue
Notable attributes: Scar on their jaw and corrupted arms
Weapon: Unknown

Their presence unsettles you. You don’t know if you feel hatred or fear when they appear in your mind. Or both at once.

There’s something dark and broken in them, something that doesn’t want to be healed and that, in fact, they try to keep intact. They don’t hesitate to offer you a hand and let you take a look at that perspective of the world, but that would mean embracing the darkness completely…

This story was originally published on Itch.io but I’ve adapted its demo to ChoiceScript.

By the way, I’ve tested everything and it should work without issues, but I’m fairly new to ChoiceScript so if you find any bugs please let me know and I’ll fix them right away. Thanks in advance, and happy reading!

All right, I think I spotted the issue and it should work now. Thanks for telling me!

Hmm that’s odd because I’m not getting a bug there. I’ve rearranged a few lines in the code. Let me know if the issue persists!

Hey, isn’t it the same game available in itch.io? Are you porting the game to choicescript?

Yes, it is. I’ve been having a few important issues with itchio lately and not much help form them, so I’m looking for alternatives and I think this could be one

great thought buddy, choicescript is one of the best out there indeed. P.S I am Zolomon from itch.io, hope you recall me from the chats of the 2nd installation of the game xd

Yes, I remember the name! I think you helped me with a coding issue, iirc lol!

The error is gone now, not sure how/ why it happened lol

Finished my first playthrough and it’s definitely super interesting! Love the characters, especially Rayco and Enid (tho probably biased there heh)

Programming quirks, I guess, lol! In any case, I’m glad you were able to read the whole demo and that you enjoyed it  Enid is especially known for stealing hearts :joy:

Enjoyable so far! That said, might we be able to just…go right back to our room in chapter 3 without visiting anyone? I get it’s “semi-linear”, but that kinda felt particularly railroaded; I’d like to be able to choose whether my MC actually cares or not to spend hours checking up on everyone.
