Raiders of the Icepeak Mountains (RPG, recruiting playtesters for latest patch, +35,000 words, total now ~180,000 words,post #172)

I just pushed a new update of the game! (see notes below on what has changed). Overall, this is a big update, with roughly +15,000 words or so, expanding the game in many ways.

I am now starting to get to the end of this game. There will be two more “long” quests included, plus I still have to “finish” some of the quests. Basically I now plan to finish what is here, but the remaining quests will only be accessible to those that provide feedback (as I usually do during playtesting of my other games)

In this new update:
-Two new magic objects.
-Two new side quests.
-Finished the coding and story of one of the three “main” quests in the game.
-More variety of intersections (as they were a bit boring before).
-More variety of secret rooms (though there might be a bug that prevents them from being accessed? Can anybody find them?)
-Bug fixes, etc

@Sinnie I still haven’t properly thought about the feedback you provided, though I am planning to soon go back and recheck the balancing of the game (any other thoughts you have are appreciated! note that we not going into them at this point is not that I don’t appreciate, but rather that at this point my brain doesn’t want to work on balancing, and prefers to move on with the story… whereas some other weeks my brain doesn’t want to go on with the story, and instead prefers to look at the balancing and mechanics).

I have just pushed the final public “demo” of the game, which incorporates most 66% of the main version of the game. Basically, I won’t be sharing any additional content on publicly, and will only be sharing the full game with those that provide some feedback (to incentivise people to provide some comments, suggestions, etc). I note that I haven’t replied to all feedback yet, as I have been prioritizing moving the game forward. In that sense, even the final part of the game is almost complete, and I am hoping to share this in the coming week or so.

In this public update:

-Game is now ~92,000 words (I think something like +15,000-20,000 since last update).
-There are now several fully coded side-missions.
-The “town” sequence is more developed (i.e. more things to do in the town).
-More lore (including some of the side missions, which greatly expand on this).
-More magical objects
-New secret rooms, etc, etc
-Tons of bugfixes

Thanks, I think I found the bugs for all those and uploaded a new version. Let me know if they persist, as I’m not 100% sure that I have identified the correct bug (the first two relate to some subroutine about scrolls…)

Idk if you did it on purpose but uh as you can see there’s a bunch hashtags and percentages just letting you know

Also idk if it should be like that but after clearing the dragon lair quest, it still pop ups

A few people have asked me to introduce “cheat” codes into the game. So, I finally added a few of them, giving you extra bonuses. These can be entered at the beginning of the game, and so far I have eight of them (see list below, together with a description of their benefits). Note that using them will alter the difficulty settings in the game, and eventually restrict the achievements that can be earnt. They still haven’t been uploaded, as I am planning to work on this game for the next few hours and upload a new version before the weekend (with some new spells and magic objects…)

Please let me know if anybody has additional suggestions (for that, please include the proposed code, and the effect).

Just pushed new update of the game, about 3,000 extra words, including three new spells (Invisibility, Friendship and Silent Step, first two for wizard and the third for cleric). I am planning to code a few more spells in the coming days. Also, there are two new magic objects, a potion of invisibility and a scroll of Friendship. Finally, as I said earlier, I implemented some cheat codes.

To test it all I made a small youtube video, while I was checking that it all worked correctly.

If anybody else who has played the latest version could fill the last poll, it would help me to try to prioritize my efforts next week… (Or, if enough people think it is almost ready then I might start to finalize the game). Anyway, all feedback really helps! (And I know there are some comments and feedback I am still to address, don’t worry I haven’t forgotten, I have a list of thing still to do…)

Excellent game as always. There is a little typo that I need to report though. When using blessingasmahathar, it says HP +5. It should say HP +10. As for my cheat code suggestion, how about blessinggreatadrao (everything at 15?)
Since we already have the option of not dying in combat, we might as well get the ultimate blessing and go all the way. What do you think?

Thanks for the typo, corrected this (will probably push this later today, after I finish coding more spells into the game… already coded 8 or 9 new ones, and will hopefully manage to do some more later today).

Not sure about having my name in the cheats (feels a bit odd…). But, I have coded some more cheats (for the next update). These are:

-blessinggreatlythanthir, blessinggreatkathos, etc… which give double the buff as the previous ones.

-chosenbyallgods, which gives you twice the buff as the normal one (i.e. plus 10 in everything…).

How does that sound?

Thanks, I think this will do nicely. A little bug I found is that, when you buy the magic sword, it does not appear when you want to make it your hand weapon.

Thanks for reporting… you were playing a cleric? (the bug should be that clerics should not be allowed to buy or use swords… I’m mostly keeping to the typical DnD cleric weapons).

Otherwise, just pushed up a new update, roughly doubling the number of spells in the game from what it was a few days ago. Many bugfixes and additional rooms to explore. All in all, over 5000 words, taking the current game to ~100,000 words.

Amongst the new spells:

Thanks for adding the option to buy few potions at once. Maybe sometime in the future, you can do it to scrolls as well. It is much appreciated and make things go more smoothly in general.

“Final” draft of the game is now up. Now starts the polishing, tweaking and rebalancing process. All comments appreciated!

Note that the version here does not have the ending of the game. The full version of the game, as usual in my playtesting, is only offered in a private thread to those that provide some comments or feedback. Looking forward to the comments!
