@Shenice_L Okay, that should be fixed now.
I’ve actually now have a concept for the potential cover.
It is the Major Oak tree in the background and in front of it are three hooded figures showing a Noble Robin, a Yeoman Robin and an Acolyte Robin. One male, one female and one non-binary to show three of the possible combinations. One on the left aiming their bow to the left, another on the right wielding a sword and the third crouched in front of them holding a dagger.
I’ve left a message with the artist who did my covers for UnNatural so hopefully they are available.
I’ve had a week’s break from writing Quiver but I’ll be back writing it from today. Chapter Seven will offer you a few choices regarding on what you want to do to deal with the revelation at the end of Chapter Six.
The two paths revolve around as the song says “Should I stay or should I go?”
However if you want to go, do you do it right away or do you go back to get the Merry Men? If you want to stay are you doing it to get the others or aren’t you willing to spring what is obviously another of the Sheriff’s traps?
I’m looking forward to writing these scenarios.
A few things I’ve added for the next update is;
The protagonist’s name can now be Robin (if male), Robyn (if female), while those who wish to be non-binary can choose either name.
Added a few life skills for them: reading, writing, riding a horse, using a bow on a horse, tracking things, stalking things, drawing maps, basic medicine and basic repair skills.
Your origin will now determine which of these four skills you start with. You can learn to do anything you don’t know as well.
These new variables mean that some choices will no longer be available for the player. Do you think choices like this should only show with the relevant skill, or should I make these choices *selectable_if?
This answer heavily depends on the player, so I think you should decide what best suits your game. I’m sure you know this next stuff — the following points are for forum readers! ![]()
Historically, players who see grayed out options:
- Are intrigued by a possible route in a new playthrough.
- See a hint at the game’s potential.
- Feel like their choices matter (illusion of choice).
- Prevents them from seeing too few options on screen.
Hiding options are best for:
- Immersion.
- Fun surprises for a new playthrough.
Some players report feeling like they “chose wrong” when seeing grayed out options. Others don’t wish to be spoiled for a playthrough of what could be possible.
If you can’t decide, a mix is best.
(I prefer grayed out options, by the way.)
I usually prefer a mixture personally someone who doesn’t know there is a hidden door shouldn’t see an option to search for one. But I think if someone could know about it but it’s conditional then it’s selectable_if
Quiver has now passed 206,000 words!
Ive also been thinking of the title and what I exactly want it to be. I know it’s Quiver but does it need the subtitle?
- Quiver (no subtitle)
- Quiver: A Robin Hood Legend
- Quiver: A Robin Hood Tale
- Something else (write suggestion below)
Technically
Quiver: A Robin Hood Adaptation
would be more accurate than the other extended titles, but I’m not really sold on any of them. It’s been a while since I last played the WiP, so let me ask you instead. What do you think sets this game apart from other Robin Hood adaptations the most? (Aside from being able to play as a character with one of various genders, sexual orientations, etc)
Are there specific areas you put more emphasis on than whatever source materials you use? The title ‘Quiver’ makes me think you mostly focus on the archery, but from what I remember that isn’t quite it.
Quiver: Something Else amuses me greatly, but that would be a terrible title and not what the poll actually asked…
“Quiver” comes from when I first came up with the concept when I was going to try to do it as a Heart’s Choice title if I was successful in my submission (which I sadly wasn’t) and it was meant to be a play on words Quiver referring to both the arrow quiver and the body response quiver.
I like to think it pays homage to the legend while it adds it’s own spin on it at points. It adds a new possible origin for Robin and adds new characters to their legend such as Isabelle the Sheriff’s daughter and an eventually rival/possible romance.
Quiver: A spin on Robin Hood, maybe? Both legend and tale sound a bit unimaginative to me.
(It makes me think of ballistics too, though projectile spin as a stabilizing factor only really came into play with bullets)
Ooh I like that a lot.
I’ve closed the original poll because I REALLY liked @Cecilia_Rosewood 's suggestion of Quiver: A spin on Robin Hood and I’m going with that as the title now ![]()
Just pushed a small update that adds a few bits here the biggest being the uninvited guest at the end of Chapter Six has changed.
