Ok thanks for the info
Hm. Just read up on some history and apparently Rome was nominally part of the empire until 751. Is that within the time period of the game? Also, will the game refer to the Byzantine Empire with that name? Pretty sure the inhabitants called themselves the Roman Empire or Romania and their contemporaries in Western Europe called them the Empire of the Greeks.
The game is set in the 8th century, I’m imagining it around the middle of the 8th century so that’s spot on I guess. I think an option could well be an Italian campaign to reassert byzantine dominance over Rome, which certainly was slipping away at this time.
You’re right about the calling themselves romans but they did also use the term Byzantium. I shall therefore be using a mixture I think, referring to Byzantium, the roman empire and the romans.
@AlexClifford94 At that period, did they retain any Sicilian holdings?
yes, according to this interactive map http://thoughtline.com/byznet/750.htm
Ooh, marvellous.
I don’t think the term byzantine came around till much later when the French starting referring to them as such.
You’re right, not byzantine, but Byzantium was used by them to describe their state
Byzantium was the original name of Constantinople, or New Rome, before the Emperor Constantine I made it the main capital of the Roman Empire, although the less populous Western half continued, more or less, depending on the Emperor(s), to be administered from Rome. After the “final” division Constantinople served as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire.
Hmmm I look forward to seeing how this game turns out.
Is it only me or will the game not load?
The game does sound good however and I will look forward to future developments.
this sounds really cool so far, cant wait for more !
One of my favorite eras. I look forward to this.
When I opened the game up, I was struck by a thought: either you were born to the purple or you gained it by marriage. I wonder if it would be possible for your character to have attained the throne through a military coup instead?
As we all know, that’s as traditional a method of succession as porphyrogeniture.
So is the link working again?
I think this is a good start but in the finished product the PC should have more depth and choice at the beginning(and overall in the story as well. Instead of each class having a set profession u should be able to choose what class and then choose a career EXAMPLE: (I thought not. So you’ve married into the Imperial House. But what is your background?)
"Noble, I am a member of one of the Empire’s greatest "
(What was your profession)
"Soldier , I enlisted in the imperial army at the age of 18(( or whatever the minimum military age was at the time)) and quickly rose through the ranks and impressed the former emperor with my military prowess and exploits.
These kind of choices should be modeled throughout the game. This is just my opinion
Yes, its not dead, its alive and very much kicking.
Been rather busy lately but done chapter two now and there is all sorts of goodness in there; a load of options, choose a consort if not already married and the thing the CoG community has always been waiting for, the chance to name your own child!
(Its me btw but log in via twitter stopped working so got a new account)
Line 414: invalid indent.
Enjoying the game so far. A lot of different choices that I can’t wait to see the outcomes of them!
Thanks, sorted the issue I believe…
I cant wait to see more scenes ! I love the game ! it is so good !
