I may be making this topic in the wrong place or it may have been repeated before but screw it, I need help with this:
I have been a longtime lurker on this forum and have been inspired to start planning an IF of my own. But here’s the thing - I don’t know how exactly to code.
I have never coded in my life and I know if I tried to code on my own, I would screw up so fast.
If there is anyone who is reading and knows how to help, please do speak up. And if I’m posting this on the wrong place, let me know.
Thank you.

I’d recommend taking a look at this set of links which may be useful. Not all of it is fully up to date - I’m going to go through and add anything extra that I can find when I have a moment - but it will cover what you’re looking for.
If you’re unsure about a specific thing, it’s helpful to post in the ChoiceScript Help section and people will be able to give you a hand.

When i was writing my first IF, I just started writing it and whenever i came across a point where i had to code, i’d just go to the choice script wiki or simply google it and that was how i learnt. Also, you should probably use CSIDE cause it’s a lot easier to use and it’s beginner friendly.

I was there once, and even though it is daunting, all I can tell you is to stick with it. Read the Wiki. Play with the code examples in it or of any game you can find. Ask questions, even if they seem basic. You can do this.

Personally, what finally got me through the barrier of those first steps in acquiring ChoiceScript skills was following along with tutorial videos to nail down the basics:
I’m not very good at all yet, but the biggest challenge for me in starting was how I felt I’d never understand without someone physically there teaching it to me step by step. The video is a wonderful, truly beginner explanation that alleviated that mental anxiety. And now, though it’s still a learning curve, I am confident and even energized at the thought of mastering CS steadily each day. Mind you, I’d originally been chronically avoiding acknowledging the fact I’d have to learn CS in order to write an IF; this went on for several years because I was so insecure about coding. I don’t know if you’re going through something similar, but I’d highly recommend watching this or another tutorial. Dennis has a few others you can watch too, it goes to part 3 I believe.
You can do it!
