On the subject of the backgrounds, I’d be curious to see what lines other players get at the end of the Camelot dream sequence. Here’s what I get, for an amnesiac fae aiming to be Queen Guinevere:
The last line appears to be the same for all changelings. The first two are dependent on how much you told Adrian of the recent strange phenomena/whether you still have the curse mark.
Yep.
So, am I meant to interpret those first two lines as
Adrian speaking to Merlin while the MC is snoozing on the RV?
What determines whether or not someone finds you intimidating? I give my character literally one scar and a couple of piercings plus a butterfly tattoo and she apparently intimidates people which is a bit odd (specially given her timid demeanor).
Maybe height and build? My character is a short/small, svelte woman, she does have two piercings (but to be fair they are not super obvious ones) and whether I play her as timid or bold she is never perceived as intimidating.
Your height and build (tall and bulky is generally more intimidating), visible tats and piercings, visible scars, wrath sin, serial killer secret.
- Being ugly
- Being tall
- Having a large build
- Having noticeable tattoos
- Having noticeable scars
- Having noticeable piercings (other than ears)
I know how to work on my phobia during the Free Time Hub. Is it also possible to work on your vice?
No. Vices are apparently going to a play a bigger role later in the series.
Anybody experience any interesting flavor text with an ugly MC? I’ve yet to play one
Why did I just read that Merlin isn’t physically attracted to the MC at all
is this true?
But we also can’t have an ace relationship with them, because… we’re food? ![]()
I mean… she/he/they are a RO so I’d assume we can have a full fledged relationship with them even if it is ace, kinda doubt it’ll be ace tho with how (IIRC) she/he/they flirt back.
On a separate note, thanks for the update Unregistered, also
can’t wait to romance what/whoever the fuck this is, gotta love some eldritch horrors in my life (we can make each other worse.)
Merlin is a RO, but if your MC is ace they will default to a platonic relationship. The following is from the FAQ:
Merlin’s nature as an incubus means their sexuality is highly integral to them, and while they will reflect back what their partner wants/needs from them, they are not naturally romantic. Basically if you’re not having sex with them, then a high affinity MC is defaulting back to platonic friends.
Will there be a chance in the future to be evil?
It’s OK to be disappointed that you can’t be an asexual character and romance Merlin. But Merlin was upfront in the story about being a succubus/incubus. Merlin being allosexual was to be expected in those circumstances. As well as being a red flag romantic option (meaning they will make some people uncomfy), because, y’know… literal demon.
I can’t speak for others, but I’m not disappointed we can’t have an ace relationship with them - I knew about the above from the get go - I’m just surprised that it’s been confirmed that Merlin isn’t physically attracted to anyone at all, they just require physicality in a relationship for some reason? Every new scrap of info that comes out about them confuses me more ![]()
They require sex because it’s sustenance to them (and they only skim off enough life energy(?) to live in each encounter, instead of draining their conquests dry). That’s why, if you’re in a close relationship with them, they will find more “food sources” instead of committing physically to you, as being the sole (soul) food source for an incubus (even a careful one that wouldn’t drain you dry on accident) is fatal within weeks.
Think White Court vampire from the Dresden Files series.
I’m sorry - I know how their abilities work and how they feed - I’m talking about the revelation that they do NOT experience physical attraction to others, i.e. they are not attracted to the MC. In addition, Merlin will only love someone “for their soul/ personality”, however a romantic relationship with them still requires physical intimacy.
This is how I’ve interpreted the information about Merlin so far (please don’t take any of this as fact): Merlin doesn’t desire sex because they are horny, they desire sex the way a normal person might desire a sandwich when they are feeling peckish. But, just because they don’t get aroused by the sight of a MC’s physical body doesn’t mean they can’t be romantically attracted to them. Merlin is a demon, so the way sex and desire and attraction works for them is meant to be different from how it works for humans, so being confused about it is perfectly normal and probably intentional.
That makes a lot of sense, except, if Merlin does not experience physical attraction, why can they not acquire what they need from others? Why require it of a romanced partner? It also seems pretty unpleasant, for it to be so one sided; experiencing only romantic attraction to someone, and not physical, yet expecting a partner to be physically intimate? To expect them to be used without reciprocation? I don’t really understand that.
