I appreciate how it offers all those different approaches to dating someone. Like not the one or two dates then sex, but it seems I can take things slowly if I want to. And all those choices about clothes and how to act etc. just makes it more realistic imo. Also I really liked the scene where my MC was waiting at the restourant for Joan to arrive, all that nervousness and worrying about arriving late and then about Joan being late is exactly what I feelt too IRL when I was about to meet up with a girl for a date.
Is no one else really put off by things like, past life memories and “alternative” medicine. You don’t get any choice to disbelieve in those things. I feel like the main character of this only has one personality.
We get choices regarding both of those things, right? We get to choose how to deal with memories regarding the ex or how to feel about them. And we also get to choose our MCs opinion about drugs (if that’s what you mean by alternative medicine).
But I agree in a way. I don’t think this game works for all kinda MCs (I also had to restart once and come up with a different MC for this game than what I originally wanted to roleplay), but then again this wouldn’t be the first game being kinda limited when it comes to that.
I think it was intepret as a knowledge known by MC… not about MC believe them or not
Just like we learn from science that humans came from evolution … it is a knowledge we learn , but some people may not believe it… it is still a knowledge we “knows” nontheless…
I have just finished my first play through and enjoyed it overall
A few niggles where at points the story doesn’t really seem to flow however I only romanced one person so am going to date more than one and also play though the ex story line and see if it flows more
I liked the depth to the characters and that it wasn’t predictable and smooth sailing
I meant mention of things like laughter therapy. It feels like the main character has a predetermined series of beliefs which I kinda feel hampers roleplay. That’s really my major gripe.
Laughter therapy was mentioned by Joan (the hippie) if I recall correctly? It bothered me too how ready the MC is to go with these stuff, sometimes I would also have liked to have options about how the MC thinks it’s a bunch of bullsh*t but she keeps her mouth shut bc she doesn’t wants to hurt Joans feelings or her chances with her.
As it is now I think this game is meant for a slightly eccentric and quite open minded MC? At least for me it helped when I came up with a new MC to roleplay who has those traits.
And by the meaning of Role play, it also should mean role play a character created with certain character background as the MC too… in the beginning chapter it was already mention the MC choose Colorado due to some of its traits, MC already know and understand what it is to be expected there… hence it is based on this trait that we can role play these type of MC
If MC doesn’t like some of the trait of the background , they won’t move there in the first place
I understand everyone want an open world just for their personal characteristic , but it is quite impossible unless we are playing the pen and paper RPG with an open book
Well I think it is possible: Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven. I don’t remember reading complaints there about how someone can’t play the character they wanted to. But all that customization has it’s price. Including all that code either means that the game will be shorter or that the author can only work at a snails pace to make a game with a decent lenght.
Ok this is really great game. I have only played a demo for now but I am getting this for 110% on android and maybe on Steam to.
How much does the activism, fitness and wholeness stats matter in this game? Like can I get dumped by Rae for example for not being fit enough?
Wow the writing in this is amazing. It has been awhile since I read something that made me so absorbed and ‘light’ like this.
I have only finished Ray and can’t wait to start another one. But first I need to get off him because the way his relationship was written is incredible and relatable.
I know right Ray is amazingly written character. Can’t wait to check his full romance when I will get back home.
I played the demo and bought on steam and so far had only one playtrough, but the story is really good, the ros are not perfect and i like how the relationship has struggles of people starting a relationship, specially with someone in rebound
well, it was weird. in a surprisingly good way. I don’t like games that have one purpose - romance, but it was still good. I laughed for the most part because it’s kinda ridiculous to me and I am not so serious about my choice of food, or what to wear, or what to say. Also, sweating and blushing. My god, if it would be real life, I would recommend to visit the doctor.
You can’t be really bad and introvert person here, tho. You have to meet people, go somewhere, anywhere, all the time. There was two times when I finally lay down to read my book that I bought at the beginning and by the end of the game I still didn’t finish it! It kinda troubles me. There is some email stuff going on, but no social media in any way. So if you like to meet people online and only online… well, in Boulder you kinda don’t have that option. Also, a lot of social activity and being good, and being self improved. Also yoga. You can’t play action games with blood and gore here, just so you know. You can drink some alcohol, but sadly you can’t be drunk. Believe me, I tried. And no smoking.
Sometimes it feels a little judgmental about your choices and one time it was strange for me because (I assume) of cultural differences. In my country, if some stranger will come to me anywhere, when I am on a date or not, you have two options - kill that stranger or talk to him. That’s it, just talk. Nothing to see here. Also the ending, but it was actually a good part, because it was serving a purpose of the summary of your choices - and I liked it.
I ended up alone in my playthrough by the way. I did break up with intense sport lady, because she wanted to have sex and it was, hmm, too soon? How about watch some Netflix shows with me, girl, and also watching Lord of the Ring director’s cut? Maybe give me some cute puppy for a gift first, no? There was some flirt with weird club woman but I think she is polygamous and some woman that ace? Maybe? I tried to finish that damn book so I didn’t quite catch that. Also, it’s a mystery to me what happened to my ex and me. Oh well. Buuuut yeah. It can be a little bit troubling but you can end up being alone and writing in this game is good, so you will not be disappointed. all in all, good game, if you like that genre.
Not precisely my cup of tea, but it sounds like an interesting premise.
Ok I have been trying to get into the game all of last night several times but I just can’t seem to even make it past the first “date”. The game kind of commits a sin that a lot of other games do with romances and are quick to ask how you how you feel about a person you literally just met. I went to yoga since I selected that my characters purpose was to focus on becoming whole and getting right with himself. Met Joan, picked every choice I could that focused on the class and everything, and still managed to have a him totally in love with her and thinking about her in a romantic way. Then there is also the fact that you have to immediately decide the next day if you want to pursue a relationship with her. If you pick no the your forced to immediately go out with the next RO that is introduced. Just doesn’t feel human/natural to me.
Also I noticed the the author is very detailed when talking about the environment and the mundane things the MC does when they first get to Boulder but the first conversation with the ex is kind of glossed over and felt like I was only getting the short hand version of the conversation. Which is sad cause I’m actually more interested in the history of that relationship because at least it seems more understandable than instantly falling in love with the other characters no matter you choices.
I’m gonna try it again after work because I really want to like the game and really thought I would instantly.
I don’t think it really matters (but please don’t quote me on that)
In my playthrough MC had an activism of only 25% while dating Keysha (the activist) and it was never an issue. So maybe they’re more for the player to see how they’re shaping their MC.
This is a strange game. Frustrating for me even. Love at Frustration I would call it.
“What so frustrating in this game?” - you would ask.
Quick answer: writing.
Long answer:
Just to get it out of the way some ridiculous moment’s here:
- MC thinking about buying a bycycle after coming in new town after not-so-well relationship
- Book choice scene: I choose Mathematics and high logic and there was a college student reading this book (makes sense at least). Then he asks you is this book any good… wow.
Issue 1: Forced choices
I don’t have anything against being outgoing or social person. But what this game does is ridiculous.
When visiting an activity event where there is RO talking, you are presented a choice with how you feel about this speech. And as I write this I am thinking “Maybe this game is realistic to the point of demonstrating how politians brainwash people”. Because other than brainwashing I couldn’t call this speech given choices presented. See they are all praising him. You cannot choose a sceptical on this. This rubbed me the wrong way for first time.
On first date (after meeting with RO) RO is late and says to that the helped someone to get into college. All of them says the same thing. Which felt weird to say at least.
Now let’s get to the elephant in the room.
Issue 2: RO’s
It’s a clusterfuck. “Wow Blast wtf??” Lemme explain to you, k?
I don’t have anything against polyamourous relationships. It’s not my cup of tea but whatever. When you first meet an unknown person how would you react? I would be scared, but that’s my personal problem. Normal people would be at least vary until they see that a person is not going to do anything stupid to them.
How would MC react? “Omygod I want to fuck him he is sexy af” of course you could be cautious it’s a choice of games afterwards but there is a thing that every RO want’s to have sex immediately. Sex on the phone scene? You could decline of course but even prospect of that possibility to have a sex on the phone is causing me to think “WTF?”.
Then there is a made up problems with RO. I call them made up because there is not much basis to them. It’s like game urging you to break up with RO to have a relationship with another one.
Issue 3: The EX
We as players must have a contex of things to understand them. You can’t just say this person is bad because he is bad. This is not a fanfic (is it?). What did MC’s “toxic” ex do? Did he beat the shit out of MC? Maybe he was always rude to MC? Maybe he didn’t like MC at all and was with someone else? We don’t know (Maybe I miss it tho). EX will only call and email MC. Call was kind of rude I guess, but this was due to MC sudden leaving. Emails were nice overall. Ex wasn’t breaking to MC life. It’s MC who constantly think of Ex by choice or not.
Issue 4: MC
I dare not call MC player. It’s like witcher I think. You play as Gerald but you make some choices and that’s all. The same sort of is here. You play as MC and make some choices but you can’t shape MC since he already has some characteristics. Most of CSG games give you a clean canvas on which you can draw the character you want. Of course you can have an MC character that has personality of their own. But it’s a choice of games. Where you choose something. And it doesn’t work when your choice contradicts with story that author suppose to give you. How does Love at Elevation solve this problem? By “fake” choice which means that basically whatever you choose it will be forgotten by story itself. Your choice matters on specific moments with RO and only that.
Thats all I have to say about this CSG game. I don’t want to come as negative its just what I had on my mind while playing the game so I wanted to let it out.
It’s not a COG game. It’s a Hosted Game.
