Romance is not a stricht necessity for me, but surely is a BIG bonus. Probably because as a gamer I have a hard time finding games where if the protagonist is female (already not so easy to find) usually her sexualiy is completely ignored if she is not into women.
I don’t know if is to not scare the insecure guys that can’t see a character that they are controlling kissing a guy, or just the “two girls going at it is sexy” thing, but outside otome games (where sadly many times the girl has the same personality of a potato, and I feel like I’m offending potatoes) and Bioware (that sometimes do a good job, sometimes not so much), I have a hard time finding canonically straight female protagonists (and those few usually are trapped in the “my lover is dead” or forever single)
So playng a protagonist that happen to be both female and straight is a very big bonus for me, even if not so important.
