Ouroboros? The self-consuming serpent, death and rebirth, infinity. My strongest memory of SFC’s story was its temporal aspect, from the sacrifice at the beginning to the time dilation and Paradox Factor of the (an) end. So I have a bias towards names that evoke or reference time, cycles, infinity, etc.
There’s also plenty of excuse in the narrative for names related to time, seeing as the station orbits Saturn. Aion, perhaps? Shai doubles as a Dune reference, maybe. Something on the nose like Paradox also seems viable.
To also cast additional votes of confidence to ideas I particularly liked from others in the thread:
Well call him whatever you want, but I don’t think that means anyone needs to alter anything. Just say the name is based in something else. I remember that meme from ages ago that had the store named Isis and they said they were changing the name. I remember thinking that was incredibly dumb, because they clearly named it after the Egyptian goddess, whose likeness existed long before the terrorist group. You shouldn’t have to make any changes to something just because one bad person or group also uses that thing. That’s a coincidence at best, and correlation without causation at worst. Same thing with the Punisher symbol. I heard that Marvel is changing it because some people were committing violent acts and using the symbol. Why? Just ignore them. Making all these changes because of them is just drawing more attention.
And I’m not saying he can’t. I’m just saying he shouldn’t feel obligated to. Unless the word is trademarked or something, he has nothing to worry about.
That feels like quite a stretch from what I’ve said. I’m pointing out that he doesn’t have to change something just because it happens to be associated with something else, and listed some examples. That’s it. I’m not trying to convince him of anything. He asked for input, I gave it. That’s it.
I appreciate the support. It’s true, I could just leave it alone. It’s a name in a game from over a year ago. But I like the idea of changing it and I think we can have some fun doing it.
