Concerning our supervillain ex spouse did we know they were villains before we married them or after?
After- it’s pretty much the reason for the divorce (well, the catalyst, at least, depends on how your MC reacts to it and the relationship they had with their spouse beforehand).
That’s gonna be great. A powerful politician who could probably make someone disappear with a few connections and a couple of bucks brought to heel by a lowly reporter.
That’s too sweet. I don’t even know what kind of struggles Eileen goes through yet aside from being new to the city, but already I feel like she deserves a personalized gift basket paid for (mostly) by Mr. Politician himself but put together by everyone else.
I do have a question though, what do some of the characters look like in regards to general appearance? Or is that too spoiler-y? May or may not have something to do with fanart.
I changed the whole ‘choose your gender’ scene but for some reason it’s not recognizing the variable for the formal address (Mr/Ms/Mx), so the demo is a little glitched out right now but I’m gonna fix it, sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for bearing with me.
I mean somebody needs to put that boy in his place and a sassy Lois Lane-style reporter is just the person to do so.
Honestly though she does, especially considering her role in this whole thing
Not spoilery at all! (Save for ???, that is)
(I put too much thought into these designs, mainly because I doodle them myself aha)
Finley: Finley is tall with long limbs. They’ve got sideswept bangs and shoulder-length blonde hair that’s usually pretty messy because they always forget to take care of it, as a result its most often just kind tossed into a messy ponytail or held to the side by a string or rubber band. They’ve got blue eyes and a peachy complexion.
Eileen: Eileen is a redhead, with short jaw-length hair (kinda french-bob style). It’s slightly curled but only really at the ends, and pretty fluffy. She’s shorter than most others and has a round face with big doe-type green eyes. She’s fair skinned with freckles dotting her arms and legs.
Yolanda: Yolanda is a willowy woman with a longer neck and heart-shaped face, she’s got black hair that she usually puts into a bun but when hanging loose it reaches her mid-back. She’s got almond shaped, nearly black, eyes and almost always wears makeup. She’s probably the second tallest of everyone, and has dark brown skin.
Ricky: Ricky’s got short dark brown hair that’s usually swept back or to the side, a longer face, and bright, sharp blue eyes. He’s relatively athletic in appearance with longer legs and broad shoulders. He’s got fair skin.
Rafael: Raf has black hair that’s a little bit longer than it should be (he always means to get it cut but then he forgets) so he always has to brush it back and out of his face. Raf has warm brown eyes and is mid-sized (a little shorter than Ricky, I think), even though he’s still pretty young (around the same age as the MC) he’s got smile lines by his eyes because of how often he does just that- smiles. Raf’s got a strong jaw and an angular face, he’s got a light brown, olive skin tone.
Lucille: Lucy’s also got a pretty angular face, she has sharp features- a sharp curve to her nose, sharp smile, sharp jawline. She’s got long (it’s nearly down to her hip) curly black hair. Lucy’s an athletic woman so she’s got some broader shoulders and longer legs (though she’s not as tall as Yolanda, about the same height as Ricky). Lucy has warm brown skin and bright, oval-shaped brown eyes.
Jacob: Jacob’s got light brown hair that’s cut short and kept pretty messy because the boy can never keep it neat. He has hazel eyes and rosy skin and dimples when he smiles. Jacob is the second shortest (taller than Eileen) but he’s a pretty active person so he’s in pretty good shape.
Hope that helped! (There’ll of course be the actual, book descriptions when you meet them, but for some people that won’t be for a while.)
EDIT: Okay! Got the demo working and updated the whole gender-choosing scene to be a bit more cohesive and just better in general. Hope it works well for everyone!
There isn’t any straight girl?
God, let’s hope not lmao
(Okay, okay, I’m going to sleep now, whatever, sorry, I’m having so much fun)
No way! That’s almost exactly how I imagined her! Right down to the red hair and freckles!
It helped a lot! I’m only about halfway through some rough sketches, but this is plenty of information to work with.

I may have imagined this wrong.
Glad you guys are posting these pictures when it’s morning over here instead of at night
I’m embarrassed to admit I am a sucker for magical redemption arcs and want to play a character who is still in love with her ex, and wants to help them.
…or that the divorce was for the people, and she’s secretly feeding them intel.
MWAHAHAH.
D: Is this possible?
Oh well…
But this is turning into one of my favorite WIPs! You write so well, and I love how you are so thoughtful in seeking out ways to make characters that people feel comfortable with.
Quick question: I’m assuming we can choose the ex’s gender. If so, will the ex in particular be a spoiler? Or will you avoid mentioning them, so that the different gender pronoun changes won’t make everyone go 'AHA, ‘TIS THE EX!’
Maybe that’s just me. ^^;
The EX, apparently, has their own gender variables.
I wake up and the first thing I see is that Finley is apparently the lovechild between slenderman and a giraffe/snake man…
I should have worded this better.
Apparently not (I didn’t really notice ahaha).
There used to be one, in the original cast of characters (If I’m remembering correctly) since most of my stories start out large then I whittle them down over time. (I think it was that her role was so similar to Eileen’s that I figured I could make one character more flushed out if I just combined them, and Eileen is one of my favorites so… yeah, she won.)
Really? Well, I guess her personality fits her looks, then! That’s cool!
I am a sucker for the exact same thing you are not alone.
Hm… I hadn’t really thought about that possibility, actually.
It’s interesting… I’m not sure how well it would work in the beginning of the game due to the MC’s and Ex’s past… but… It might be something to consider for later on…
… Okay, now you’ve got me thinking.
Aww, thank you! That makes me so happy!
Really, this WIPs goal is fun- have fun writing, let others have fun reading. I wouldn’t be able to accomplish that goal if people weren’t having fun with the characters, right? So I want to make sure I make it available to as many people as I can so they can enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!
So, fun fact, not only do the two exes have their own gender variables- but their own personalities too!
I wanted to experiment with making the two options not just a gender choice, but a choice in characters as well. So the story and past will actually differ depending on who it is you chose because these are two different people with their own lives.
And of course both’ll appear in the story whether or not they’re your ex so your interactions with these characters will change because of your past relationship with them!
I’m excited to try this out and see how it works.
I hope there’s a weird reason for how MC ended up getting married. Also, MC’s reaction to seeing their ex is interesting. Are they trying to hide from their ex? Did they move to Nickelport after the divorce?
There’s a couple of available reasons, and, yes, some of the ones can be rather odd!
The MC’s current situation with their ex is gonna be fluid, so yeah, they could be on the lam but they could also be trying to do a couple of other things…
I don’t know how this would play or if it is possibly depending on how bad the divorce was; but i couldn’t get this idea out of my head.
I was thinking one option for the Ex to act with the MC is; the ex was nonchalant when it came to the divorce to the point even after the divorce they would call the MC every so often for a one night stand
With varring degrees of failures and possible successes.
Never before have I ever been so interested in finding out who someones ex is, gosh darn it Rena why do I have to be hooked on both your stories. I squealed like a fan girl as soon as I saw the Update to Sun and the I found this and gawd. Why is it so good. I always wanted a story where we were the average citizen. I mean all the moments of
MC: -is dangling over a shark tank being slowly lowered by a crane while the hero and villain are fighting off to the side- I just wanted to go buy some tea, was that too much to ask for this morning? -Deadpan stare at the shark under them like it’s another Tuesday already rocking their weight to try and swing them self on to the walkway around the tank…-
Especially if you joke around with the trope of the reporter always in trouble. That’s going to be great. XD Sorry it just made me think of a moment from that one movie. Megamind. XD
Ok now that just made me think of a a scene where MC’s Ex kidnaps them; and the Ex tries apologize for having to do it even making a joke about how they role play like this when they were married. But MC just starts berating them which leds to a giant agruement between the two.
Then the hero shows up right in the middle of the agruement and tries to throw out their super speil but is totally ignored by the arguing duo. To the point where the hero asks if he is missing soming here; and the MC and the Ex just turn to the hero and yell at him/her to get out.
After these humorous headcanons, I’m hoping we’ll have the option to simply not have any of our ex’s bullshit. Like they’ll be giving the Evil Monologue™ and I’ll just be so obviously disinterested, because I have heard this all before and it’s getting really old:
Ex: [evil monologuing bla bla bla]
Me: [checking phone notifications]
Ex: “…Are you even listening to me?”
Me: “Sorry, is this gonna take long? I kinda have somewhere to be. So, if you have anything else you’d like to say, just make it quick.”
Unlucky hero bearing witness to all this: [not even trying to hide amusement]
Ex: [wearing a combination of bewildered, embarrassed, and annoyed expressions whilst struggling to find words]
Unlucky Hero (to me): “Well, looks like you got this handled.”
