May 2025 Writer Support Thread

As tempting as it is to get into the discussion on getting interest and replies for a WIP thread, I’ll just put this on the table.

Does anyone want me (if I haven’t done so) to look at their WIPs? If yes, just reply here or message me. I’ll try to take a look over the weekend. I’m planning to take another break from the forum soon to write, so give me a nudge before I’m off to catch my (figurative) plane.

I did update my WIP in April. Does that count? :innocent:

I’d very much appreciate if you’d like to take a look at The Earth Has Teeth if you end up having time for it.

Of course! Added.

…glrbbblrh I slept 24 hours. Guess I was tired.

Good luck with your thesis!

I read “40,000 words on BOT” and was wondering for a moment that isn’t code usually measured in lines.

I have a character named Viktor, who’s at one point described resembling a Victorian vampire, but all that gave me was a few snickers. Good luck with your search-replace!

Mine was when I was sitting on the floor reading, and a mouse decided to peek from the wall. We stared each other for a moment, and then it noped out.

I have, however, shared a bedroom with a bat. That wasn’t fun.

Aw, no. I’ve been meaning to read your WIP but I haven’t had the time.

Welcome back! I missed you.

That sounds healthy.

I feel you. Although I’m less watching reviews and more browsing book store catalogues. (They all have terrible paper! Why would you make a notebook that you can’t write in???)

I haven’t had a blog in ages, and I hate blogging. That’s how.

I’m so sorry. I’d drop a comment, but possessed mics make me recoil.

Yay, a poem!

I’m shy, so here goes nothing… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I don’t have much planned for this month due to personal stuff, but I want to do another scan through of chapter two for Tainted Souls, do a testrun and get it uploaded to the COGdemo platform by mid-month. I also want to work on the stats page and streamline a lot of things, like the ROs’ descriptions and so on. If I can, I hope to squeeze out the entirety of chapter three before the month ends…

I’m still learning coding, especially the ‘goto’ and ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ commands, so I hope my pea brain can grasp it soon so I can stop focusing on the small stuff and start seeing the bigger picture. :backhand_index_pointing_right::backhand_index_pointing_left:

Sending a barrel of motivation to everyone.

I was checking out what I missed out and this account has 10 years. And taking account my old account that was hacked 14 years since first time I posted on this forum.

No Idea if I improved since then. But Lol, I feel ancient.

I’ve never written a game, but I will absolutely take part in this if you decide to run it!

I decided starting to prepare this year. I only can spoiler that this year would be In Eiw memoriam. She was with Havie the two first people that cheer me to do jams.

What’s the save game solution that’s the default/recommended option now? I’ve seen *save_checkpoint as a choicescript-provided solution. Is that any good? I’d like something that isn’t tied to a hosting provider. So for example, cogdemos includes save/load with every game, but if I compile it with the built-in Export to HTML, I wouldn’t get it. I’m comfortable with using code or scripts.

I’m already disillusioned to the extreme. It kinda comes with having written and submitted a whole game before. I used to have no fears or expectations regarding my writing, now I keep worrying about distant future and how likely various outcomes of content review are given the current trajectory.

But don’t worry, I’ll definitely resume writing soon. I’m too stubborn and spiteful to just quit.

The thing is, choicescript checkpoints are redundant if you’re hosting your story on cogdemos and are not yet compatible with ChoiceScript IDE. I’d advise not bothering with them until you’ve done everything else and are ready to compile your HTML.

Huh! Thanks, that saved me a lot of time! I’ll just download ChoiceScriptSavePlugin and use that. If I need to remove it later it’s just one file and two lines of code.

I am loving the chess discourse. It’s like a foreign language to me. It’s like listening to someone read Beowulf in the original Anglo-Saxon.

In may I want to write approximately 50K words, and also improve my already written content.

@HarrisPS I think you forgot to add my newly released wip Dao Ascension

Added, thanks!

Unsure if I need a content warning for this next fight. I’ll put it in but ask play-testers to comment on whether they think it’s necessary or not. Probably don’t need it, but better to start on the safe side!

It depends on the content you add there. If it is a scene really gore or with special triggering content a warning and a skip option would be advised. But if the scene is in the ordinary tone of the game with the general warning at the beginning is enough.
