May 2025 Writer Support Thread

May went well for me in the end. Wrote around 25000 words through the month, meeting The Deadline for [redacted project] and submitted a chapter. It’s not possible to talk about in more detail until…sometime…but I can say:

  • I’m working on this project with my wife Fay, who’s not on here as much as I am but who made Asteroid Run: No Questions Asked and Heart of Battle, and is also working on Heart of the Mountain. This is the first professional project we’ve worked on together, although we did a lot of collaborative creative work in our younger years and we do tons of discussion and feedback exchange on our solo work
  • It’s a really different kind of thing to anything either of us have published before
  • The feedback we’ve had is really positive and our editor is really picking up what we’re putting down which is brilliant. It’s always a bit intimidating sending off something new: what if they don’t like it or it’s different to what they thought it was going to be? So it’s nice to know that our intentions are coming across

This worked really well for me. I’ve been using Leechblock across my devices to reduce the amount of time I spend on various sites and completely blocking others. It’s pretty striking what a difference it’s made - especially the mood dip when I’ve occasionally switched it off and have gone on the blocked places. So I’m going to continue with this.

During May also I answered a number of questions on my IF advice blog, IF Seal:
