Marine Raider

@Bastiaan - You are welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I hope that when I continue the series, and I will because the entire Pacific War is waiting to be explored, I’ll be able to build on what I learned while writing Marine Raider.

Were there any parts in particular that struck a cord with you?

It would if been nice if it was a bit harder

@JLBH -Harder in what way? There are a few different methods to add difficulty to these games…

Hmm like

I finished it straight away and lost nobody

It would be nice if it was longer and more difficult in the fights

Just my opinion

@JLBH - That is a common observation with the game. It is short, at a total length that is easily less than what has become my standard chapter.

The fights are also pretty straight forward in comparison to those I crafted in Apex Patrol and (eventually) Tin-Star. Certainly the choices don’t branch out as much. Also, there are just two major stats to contend with; morale and logistics (Ammo, etc). When I tackle the next Marine Raider game it will definitely be more in depth in that respect.

Okay carnt wait it was a great game

Excited to hear your carrying on the series. Will the next be a continuation of the surviving characters, and if so, how will (if you were unlucky to) lose of members effect your starting team? Recruit more, or become more smaller specialised group?

Well, as things stand, I intend to use the characters from the original with only one change. A few previous events are also hard-written in because I literally have no way of carrying things over. This will include a particular marine suffering from a badly healed foot injury received during the last Raider mission, a successful completion of the Raider mission, and not losing anyone during said Raider mission.

However, work on this has slowed as I have challenged myself to produce a full game app in 30 days. Kind of like the National Novel Writing Month (this month in fact) but for a Choice of Games game.

Good lucks what’s it about

@AllenGies I am a major fan of your game marine raider it is by far one of the best text based games. It is what got me hooked on hosted games and Cog.

@JLBH -A story of suspense set in a remote and long abandoned house. It should also be a different method of COG story-telling than I have done before

The Glass House Horror will (hopefully) be a non-linear game with the player determining where they go and what they do within its walls. There are only a few timed events along the way as the player navigates the house and grounds; and all the while the dread creature that inhabits both begins to stir.

This feels like a good way to shake off my doldrums from the sometimes onerous writing of Tin-Star and also get a feel for how I want Marine Raider 2 to shake out; with the player deciding what they feel is important and then executing that mission accordingly.

@Storm -Thank you. That’s praise indeed. Can I ask what in particular you enjoyed about Marine Raider? I always like to get people’s perspective so that I can, hopefully, duplicate the success down the line.

I liked how the setting and the choices interact with each other like when you can chose to defend the house thing and the road or you can attack the base it makes it feel genuin. Also the interigation scene was cool.

@storm -Glad to know I got a few things right. Especially the interrogation scene because it let the player get to know your enemy on a personal level. Much like the letters and photo from the fallen Japanese soldier.

It has been months since anyone has posted, but if people are still visiting here then I have an announcement. I have opened a new discussion folder ‘The Midnight Horror -Beta Testing’ on this site. It is from the horror genre and hopefully has plenty of suspense and dread mixed into the atmosphere. There are even a few puzzles and a little combat to be had, though the enemy is obviously nothing like those foes encountered in Marine Raider.

You can play the beta version via a link to my dropbox.

could ya send me a guide? (ren_aki13@yahoo.com)

If he sent it to you can you send it to me plz

Sorry, I didn’t have time to develop a guide per se. I’ll just code rip some bits out.

Also, I am presently in the process of beta-testing Marine Raider II. So, if you feel like it, hop over to

The Commendation Guide:

One commendation for capturing Ishiro, the enemy officer.

One commendation for personal bravery. I.e. enduring a banzai charge.

One commendation for capturing a slew of prisoners.

One commendation for the destruction of the enemy bay base.

One fewer commendation for the damage that the Schley endured during your mission as well as naval casualties.

One commendation for the destruction of the jungle base.

Up to three commendations for complete and utter victory in destroying both the interior and bay base as well as acquiring valuable intelligence. This overrides the one commendation for gathering significant intelligence from the bay base and then leaving.

A commendation for bringing every one of your Marines back without serious injury. At least, none more serious than Hagan’s little fall into that pit anyway. Given his swift recovery, that hardly counts.

Hay do you now how to get the capture a slew of prisoners accommodation

How do you get the captureing a slew of prisoners accommodation in marine raiders

You need to take the base by surprise, you’ll get an additional merit if you take the “follow me” route. That means the two soldiers at the beach cannot notice the ship, and Ichiro’s men either need to all be killed or be allowed to pass by without incident.
