Now that everyone has brought up pets I feel the incredible urge to add the option to have one in my new Superhero WIP . I’d only allow for non-ordinary options, maybe, for fun. [Ferrets, Cockatiels, a ball python vs a cat or dog]. I just feel like having a more eccentric pet would be amusing. Maybe I could take it further, like they can have an emu or a rescue pony, I feel that would also be cute. For now it is all head canon.
On a related note, I’ve returned to thinking about a Superhero story. This is markedly different from the original one I drafted though, a lot less convoluted on the jump. It’s overall scope is big but the first book is going to be pretty contained, I am optimistic, still in early outlining stages though. For now, I’m going to say the title I intend for it currently is “The Oracle: Downfall” Not anticipating anything being released for this month though, that would be far too lofty. Maybe a demo late next month, perhaps? But I am going to be taking my time writing around the game before writing any script itself. I rushed too fast with Shengzhang, me thinks. No need to rush.
One thing I’ve learned, is that pets are always loved by the audience. Especially if they talk. In fact, it doesnt even have to be a pet, it could just be a character that makes you instinctively want to protect them, like a small child.
As an example, in the Japanese mythology WIP im WIP’ing on, there is a talking fox who is a messenger of Inari. His name is Messenger #38582, but the MC says “stuff that”, and you get to give him a proper name. And also, he’s an asshole. But the loveable asshole type.
The first writing day of my new approach towards actually getting things written down has gone pretty well.
After letting ideas fester during the week, and refusing to look at CSIDE even though I really wanted to on Thursday, I sat down today and managed 2,025 words (excluding code) without even really struggling.
I’ve introduced my favourite NPC (so far anyway), added in their suite of gender variables, and shifted around an earlier section of conversation to make it reusable in multiple branches.
I also spent far too much time reading parts of a Victorian women’s fashion magazine to better understand what dresses look like, which was a confusing time indeed. Green was apparently in fashion during the autumn of 1890, at least in England.
I did the exact same thing when I started Ashbourne! Did I need to pick a specific decade when real historical events aren’t going to be brought up? Of course not! But I really wanted my audience to picture the characters in the Victorian cloths I personally like best
It’s been way too long since I’ve been on the forum… Hello to everyone again! I hope your writing projects have been going well.
My WIP’s progress has been agonizingly slow, and I’m fretting on whether what I’ve managed is well-written enough, or good enough. I will handily ignore that feeling and try to at least complete writing the chapter first (almost there…) before I think about it, lest I get too anxious to write at all.
“And it’s an early draft, so it’s probably garbage. I’ll edit it later. But please tell me it’s good. My entire self esteem hinges on this. But it’s garbage, so you shouldn’t read it. Except if you don’t, I’ll assume you hate it. And if you read it and tell me it’s good, I won’t believe you. And if you read it and tell me it’s bad, I’ll remember that forever. And I’m going to check back every few minutes and see if you’re writing feedback. But that’s okay, no pressure.”
I remember reading something on the forum about some people saying that taking care of children is a turn-off in games. for that reason, I changed some things up in my story. it will always have The Little Girl, but the player can choose whether to actually be her caretaker or not.
