'Kitsune' by Thom Baylay (Available now!)

Just double checking

While searching Dr Jones’ office, in the hospital, I’ve been trying so many different codes, and I’ve come up empty. Not asking for the answer, just trying to see if anyone has gotten the right code or are also stuck.

I love the concept of blending a mundane life with the chaos of a supernatural entity, especially with the inclusion of diverse gender and sexual identity options. The idea of stepping into a character’s shoes while discovering who they really are is so intriguing. I’m excited to see how the mystery unfolds and how the relationships develop. The character choices and the mix of romance, fantasy, and self-discovery are exactly what I’ve been looking for. Can’t wait to dive into the beta and see how it goes! Thanks for sharing, Thom!

Bug report!

I love the story very much. I especially loved [spoiler]the final showdown where you get to have your moment talking about how to exist, bettering ourselves one step at a time. And how it’s not complicated. But that moment was severely undercut by the epilogue I got. It’s jarring enough that I suspect it’s a bug.

I got story_26 = 5 – one where after an amicable final talk with ${kit}, you say you will walk the middle path. The epilogue you get is determined by this code.

For the drawer? There’s a hint in the cabinet. You need to solve it with that clue. Look at the capitalised letters.

Thank you! I’ll take a look at this. Please can you blur the spoilers about the ending for other readers

Rare is the writer that can encapsulate the chaotic nature of a trickster spirit as well as you did. Good job! Amazing work!

One: I am not your friend. The other: That won’t be a problem.

Our foxy friend then proceeds to make all the problems. While being very handsome. I am not afraid to admit that I will always fall for the scheming tricksters, and our fox is one of the most engaging ones I’ve seen in all of media. Figuring them out was very difficult but incredibly rewarding.

While I think there was slightly too few redemption moments for our fox, the callback to the opening line of telling Dad!Spirit that it is not a problem because our fox can change felt…genuinely liberating. Here we are, ready to forgive complete betrayal, and the game rewards us for it without ever downplaying the fox’s shameful selfishness. The relationship portrayed here feels in its depth as deep and dark as Ortega from Fallen Hero, which is amazing given how much shorter ‘Kitsune’ is. I just wish there was slightly more emphasis on the fragile emotions in the Chapters following the ‘big twist’. Like our fox hesitating a bit more, or actually trying to help without being guilt-tripped into it. Still. Best fox portrayal in media for a long time.

My favourite character was actually our best friend, however. Work buddies for life, what a genuinely well portrayed friendship! I loved all the moments where M has our back and gossips with our character.

I made quite a few screenshots to highlight some typos etc. I’ve come across, hopefully they can help to polish this gem of a game. Will send them over tomorrow.

How do you get the happy ending with Kit? I feel like I did everything right with them but get the crazy epilogue haha

That’s a bug, I think, as mentioned further up in the thread. You can get a good ending with the fox rn but only if you leave your human life behind.

By the way, this also includes choosing the way of the fox which is what I did and also led me to a happy ending.

i’m not great with my words but i just wanted to say how beautiful i thought this story was, a lot of it really resonated me personally especially with the type of MC I chose to play. I just do not know how to put into words how much i LOVE this story, i don’t even care about to romance tbh its just a plus. I really loved the type of story the Grim&I was and this is kind of coming back to that play style and storytelling. So so so wonderful, i cannot wait to buy this game 400 times when it comes out :sob::heart:. gushing aside, there were a few errors and things i’ll put together neatly for you and send in hopefully tonight

I’m not sure whether to be upset, glad, or something ‘in-between’ for reading this. It feels so bittersweet(or maybe I’m thinking of the wrong feeling) and if this is truly the end maybe I’m a bit crazy and greedy to want more already.

Once bitten twice shy is typically my route and it drives me nuts about a certain character. It feels a bit shortened or maybe cause of the route I took but the I’m unsure of the history with the royal.

Probably a thousand other things to sort through/think of yet nonetheless thank you for the story.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and error reporting. I’m not able to reply to every message or email, but I appreciate all the flagging of typos and errors. A reminder to please include a screenshot where possible (or at least some details on where you saw the error) so that I can quickly amend it.

I have updated the files of the beta for the final chapter and epilogue, including the stats screen during that chapter. There wasn’t a bug, but I appreciate that it was very jarring so I added a few more options and endings to cover different situations. I hope these adjustments will make it more thematically and tonally consistent, as well as making the stakes and choices of the final chapter a little clearer. Certain endings are intended to be harder than others

Changes like this can often create glitches so please report anything that doesn’t work!

I was listening to music during my second playthrough, and it suddenly hit me I’m Not Calling You A Liar is a perfect song for Kit’s route.

Holy…f***. This played my heart A LOT. I love the twists and turns, plus I find this along the modern-fantasy genre, but this was beautiful! I fell in love with Kit, with her chaotic antics while I played a subservient MC. For the epilogues, it was short yet vague, but nonetheless delivered well.

As for the bugs or glitches, I didn’t see any errors on my first playthrough.

For grammars and misspellings, I’m not proficient enough for grammars, but I find the dialogues well-written, simple, and quite easy to understand, thus it described the moments and scenarios rather easily.

Stunning journey of a game. Honestly i really love how you make the choices count, in all your games but Kitsune in particular. It’s truly heart-wrenching sometimes, and that is true storytelling. I can not wait to own this game. Masterful and beautiful work. :black_heart:
