I did not do this: in fact it’s about halfway done at the moment as the code skeleton became wildly larger than anticipated.
But this was good headway even so. And we implemented some broad relationship stuff in which the PC’s level of appeal to romanceable NPCs is affected by a combination of the PC’s personality, the general “friendliness/approval” level, and romantic chemistry (affected by specific actions such as performing a selfless rescue, cheering them up when they’re upset, being annoying to someone they don’t like, glaring moodily at everyone, etc, depending on the individual NPC’s tastes).
The secret project is currently around the size that Creme de la Creme was at a similar stage through drafting and I wrote about 28000 words during the month.
I did do this! A friend drove us out to a village with a ruined castle and we did a day-long hike that involved rivers, fields, woods, and only getting a little bit lost.
I did…not do this. Onward and upward for next month.
Ditto.
But I did achieve several weightlifting personal bests which is a very good feeling.
Can’t believe it’s the end of the month already. Thanks for the digest, @HarrisPS, it’s always encouraging to see!
Haven’t quite hit my goal of drafting the second chapter, but I did manage to get through a rough draft of the first one. I’m not doing word counts on this project since it’s all in a notebook/index cards. A bit difficult to juggle the pieces, but it’s really helped me visualize where the choices are and how they relate to each other.
this month flew by for me. personal life wise it was…a trip. not the best time ever! anyways i was focused on irl stuff a good chunk of the month (my friend was in the hospital for two weeks which SUCKED, but she’s back home now which is better) and didn’t write too too much but still i am altogether happy i kept my head up and kept going!
did not achieve this, unforch. giving myself grace here though because this is my first IF project and is a very different type of beast!
i did do this! i just looked back through it yesterday actually and it is really fun to see my progress on a timeline.
all in all, a shit month on the whole, but progress continued anyways and for that i am glad! excited to see everyone else’s updates :))
Wordcount
Start of Month: 99,313 words
End of Month: 114,891 words (and counting! I’ll edit this post EOD)
Goals
Complete chapter 3. Oh, sweet summer child, no. I did finish the first set of routes and I’ve gotten through 1 of 3 of the next set of routes. I’m hoping to get the second either done (ha) or halfway done (more likely) today.
Review at least 3 WIPs in the forums (the two today don’t count as it is still June here). …I forgot about this. I’ll try to read one tonight, though. What’s a good one to read that doesn’t have a huge word count? Or maybe I can just do first chapters of three…
Question
Anyone interested in demo’ing a single section of chapter 3 for me?
It is written so part of it can work in any order but this section also has a lot of emotions going on in it so I’m concerned the emotional beats will feel awkward in certain configurations (especially if you succeed the talk and do another caretaking task afterward). (Note: I provide context for the scene in the demo.) (Note the second: I’m not looking for general feedback/etc. I’m really just concerned about the emotions).
Yeah, the proof will be in the pudding - I hope that it works in practice! We had fun looking at personality stats and figuring out what the NPCs like and dislike - some like one extreme or another, some like or dislike if a PC is in the middle, and some like either extreme but not the middle at all.
I don’t think I actually made a formal goal for this month, which… I’m not surprised haha. I did get to the point in the plot that I was hoping to reach and spent time actually setting down a loose outline/draft for the next section, which… I have already deviated from within 2000 words, but it’s alright. It’s fine. Totally.
May everyone’s August be productive in writing, health, and happiness.
I am delighted to have met my goals for July. Though progress has been slow in the recent days due to some health issues, I hope I can recover early into August and meet my August goals too. I also really wish to catch up on my reading backlog. I only read a single book in July, and so hope to read better and by the end of August finish the epic fantasy trilogy I am currently reading.
Here’s to a fantastic, productive, and most importantly, a healthy August for everyone
I only met one goal for July, I was meant to edit and publish my Chapter Two in a week. I finally did that two days ago. My second goal, to write a third of Chapter three is standing at 0%. Oh well. Editing is hard.
I have better hopes for August, much of my personal issues that make life and writing more stressful will be gone! So I’m looking forward to it. I hope everyone has an amazing writing August!
I did manage this, in spite of everything. There were very many long drives and several nights of very poor sleep, but the move is done and August is looking a lot more relaxed, in terms of large tasks needing accomplishment.
