Yes, in general - but I would much rather sift through some flags that don’t get upheld than have a thread blow up with people calling each other out and having fights.
(To be clear, I’m not saying flag everything you don’t like and the main focus should be on harassment or posts that break rules - but if it’s a choice between flagging and fighting/pile-ons, the flagging is preferable, and if someone is abusing or spamming the flag system it becomes very obvious.)
You’re doing the lord’s work in this thread. This thread could be full of really fun and interesting conversations if we didn’t cycle through the same 3 topics every other day.
Like some bands/artists will never conquer the world because they don’t want to or they’re just too weird for the mainstream or any number of other reasons but they still have a following of fans that love their work and can make a living off their music. That’s a success, I think!
Even if every member of the band has to get day jobs and every two years they release a single that only their friends and family buy, as long as they’re happy and having fun that’s still a good ending to me.
Not being Taylor Swift in chapter 1.5 doesn’t make you an irredeemable failure and not being Taylor Swift ever also doesn’t make you an irredeemable failure.
Taylor Swift also wasn’t as popular as she is now for a long time. Her whole re-release fight against her record label gave her a massive boost in notoriety and new fans.
That is true, mc and highschool band may have been a bad fit for Orion’s former company, however if they thought mc and band had any chance at all chances are somebody at the company would have referred them someplace else, like a smaller more niche competitor. Might have even gotten a fee out of it.
Heck, if Orion thought mc and band really could make it he could probably have referred them himself, since he was already willing to quit on mc’s behalf, but obviously even Orion thought they were at best a very rough diamond and nowhere near ready for the big leagues yet.
Orion seems to have loads of contacts, yet nothing materialized for the mc thus far, that is odd to say the least unless Orion felt they still weren’t ready as it seems mc may have signed the band up for the shitty reality show as a last ditch attempt to keep the band together, which is what the story tells us. So maybe Orion didn’t want the band, just mc as a songwriter and maybe much more lowkey solo singer and that could certainly be the reason why Orion has not mobilized his own no doubt extensive network of contacts for the mc thus far.
Too bad mc is bad at everything else, so it’ll never shine in-game. Story-wise it is kinda shitty the only 100% confirmed talent of the mc is very much a tell, not show, thing in the game thus far.
I mean, the MC has been designated as super talented with lyrics, so yeah.
I don’t recall G being labeled as one way or the other. Do they even write their own songs? I know they said on stage that when they were discovered, the guy said their lyrics were bad, lol. Made me wonder if Blake wrote them.
@Jamo
Because they have already “made it”, so to speak. Not G-level or even Blake-level (if I remember correctly, Amy said Blake has about half the following of G and Seven is below that, and then the MC is half of Seven’s), but they aren’t stuck playing shit gigs in bars anymore. They’re actually really popular.
Is SV signed onto a label? Just a smaller label than this one? I missed that in the demo, probably because I start getting annoyed with anything SV related in the text, at this point.
But no one really thinks that from what we see. Seven is way ahead of the MC and their band, like by leagues. Granted, we’re seeing the MC’s POV, but we do get other POVs, and they don’t strike me as showing the MC as being anywhere near as good as Seven. G likes the MC’s voice and songs, that much is true, but they literally had to cheat to get the MC in the competition, and they only did that to keep Blake out.
Nah, I wasn’t coming back with that. It’s more that no one has been interested in them.
This is presented as the last chance the band has to make anything of themselves, and that they’ll all be going their separate ways if they don’t win (based on Rowan’s worry that this is all he can do, and the desperation in it all). Seven and SV is already successful, successful enough that they just walked right in. The MC’s band was going to lose and not get into the competition, plain and simple, so they weren’t good enough to get there, and didn’t have enough of a following to get there, either.
I’m really wondering, though, how Blake’s band ended up in the battle for the final spot, when they’ve got more fans than Seven, even. Shouldn’t they have been a shoe-in and gotten in faster? Unless G did something to stop that. Or I just don’t know how this stuff works, which is a distinct possibility, since I always avoided reality TV like the plague.
I’m into the story, otherwise I wouldn’t waste my time with it (and I think @idonotlikeusernames is as well, for the same reason), but it is fucking depressing thus far, with a couple of “fun” scenes thrown in to bring in some light. And I get that we’re only two chapters in, but we’ve been told things will be constant angst for the MC and the romances are really slow burn and will be angsty the whole time, so I very much doubt it will suddenly get happy.
It’s kind of dark, really, given the MC’s parents, history with Seven, lack of success, lack of support system (I’m not feeling it from the “friends”), and already being painted as a cheater who doesn’t deserve to be there. I suspect some of the competitions may help, but I also suspect there will be some that will be forced losses. Just not sure what we’ll get first, and if the pain will stop before the very end of the game.
So I’m embracing the dark and depressing side of it. Hence my MC who’s into cutting–we’re only given drugs and booze for the MC to use as destructive tendencies, but my main MC isn’t going to fuck up the only chance she has and ever will have to make it. So it’s either win or have her life permanently ruined (since Amy says that can be a possible end)–drugs and booze will only ensure that end, my MC figures.
By the way, thank you for having a civil conversation instead of just getting pissed because you don’t agree with my opinion. I really do appreciate it. And am having fun with the back and forth.
…why would you want to rp that? like it’s making something that’s meant to be a fun chaotic game into a kind of dark odd thing. Ugh I hate this discussion.
Jamo has already given the possible reason, since this competition is run by G’s scumbag label and G probably has a number of executives in his back pocket, so to speak. I think G and the executives on his side really tried to make the argument that no matter what signing Blake and co was never going to fit into their company’s brand and since a contract with them is the ostensible goal of the reality show…well suffice it to say I think the subject of Blake and UW has been a real battle in the boardroom already that G’s side probably lost only very narrowly at that, which is why Blake only got in at the last round and why G tried to cheat with mc and their highschool bar band to try a last ditch effort to keep Blake out.
Blake of course doesn’t need the reality show at all and it wouldn’t surprise me if Blake turned down a decent offer from a competing label just to try and get into the reality show, as he has basically already made it but his vendetta with G drove him. That Blake had to stay in until the last round and compete with the bar bands at the bottom of the pack, like mc’s, just goes to show G and the executives on his side really stacked the deck against Blake here.
I don’t think so, or maybe their contract just ended if they were because from what I know legally the competitors must be free to sign a recording contract with G’s label. Though it is possible for more successful bands like Seven and Blake’s that their current label has agreed that G’s label can buy them out, should they be chosen in the end. Although that would make it more expensive, so I don’t think that is the case for Blake as they already seem to have G and a lot of the executives against them and additional expenses to sign him would have given G’s side more ammo. If I had to guess I would venture Blake’s previous contract has just ended and he’s currently in between labels. They may or may not have such a deal in place with Seven and perhaps some of the other prime competitor’s current labels though if those are smaller more minor labels and companies or maybe even subsidiaries of G’s label.
Yep, this is the darkest game on here that does not outright deal with a dystopia, slavery and/or rebellion against such theme. Even so I think that of the dark games this one may be the most depressing one because just how few bright spots there are for the mc personally at the moment, which may or may not get better.
Personally I see my mc taking more and more drugs as the shitty “reality” show goes on but he goes into it clean, he won’t come out of it that way, literally and figuratively both, if he comes out of it at all that is.
It is, but the mc and their band are nowhere near that level where they have carved out a niche that is at least sustainable for themselves since they enter the stupid contest out of sheer desperation as their last chance to continue in the industry at all. If mc was at that level mine would be more than satisfied if he could sustain a (lower)middle class lifestyle out of it after band, costume and touring expenses and would never need to enter the shitty, humiliating “reality” show at all.
Not that mc will get a decent lifestyle out of, even if by a fluke they do win, since the cheating allegations will assure their contract will be super bad.
Sure, but this does not fit with the premise of the game, if that is really all the mc and co wanted out of music the game would be redundant and they could all follow Denny into retirement. Heh, maybe a groundhog style DLC where there will be an option for mc to do just that will be the true happy ending of the game. But as of right now it is just not an option.
I think I explained why above. I see this game as dark thus far, not “fun and chaotic”, so I’m playing it as such. The alcohol and drugs are offered as a way for the MC to deal with things, so to speak. And G appears to be an alcoholic, or borderline alcoholic.
As someone who knows alcoholics, I can tell you that isn’t “fun”, and relying on booze and/or drugs as a coping mechanism is not the same as having a happy binge drinker around. Both drugs and alcohol can ruin your life and/or kill you, if abused. I could go into the psychology behind it all, but feel it would be wasted. But RPing my MC who cuts to exert some control over her life and deal with her pain and emotions isn’t any darker than having an MC who relies on drugs or alcohol to do the same.
Same! Like, yes Avina! Protect Seven at all costs. TBH, this only makes me like Seven and Avina more. I really like how they have each other, especially after Seven found themself all alone after the band kicks them out.
Whatever Avina sends our MCs, I’m sure our MC can handle it (at least mine definitely will)
Uuuuhhh, I must have really really missed something there because when did THAT happen? Unless you’re referring to that one question about Seven’s music process.
Avina who is tired of watching Seven pine for MC from afar. Avina who is SICK of watching Seven and MC pretend not to look at each other on the tour bus because she can tell they are both idiots who are crazy about each other.
