Infamous if (band wip) chap 3 (457k wrds) released (9/08/2024)

Oh yeah I mean that pissed me off too. But my mc let him know she wasn’t happy. I think viktor is like G’s one fear. Bc they know that he can just take everything away from them with a click of the fingers.

Also I forgot to say but with every update I move more and more away from romancing seven. It’s not even just the Avina thing (although they are annoying) but idk I can’t put my finger on it…something about seven just really annoys me nowadays. Which is hilarious bc when the demo first dropped I was a massive seven stan 5ever lmao

I refuse to let anything sway me from the course of durian raccoon island. It’s like with Darcy in Professor of Magical Studies - you do it at least once to later say “yep, did that”. Like climbing a mountain.

Oh, absolutely. It’s really less about gender than it is about their social clout. Gender just adds a little variation, I think, but mostly in a meta way, when you think through the implications. Of course Viktor’s not going to throw the money maker under the bus. And G, who thinks they owe their success to Viktor, isn’t going to go against the one constant they’ve had in their life since they were a teenager. So they have to sit there while Viktor destroys the people around them in order to ostensibly protect their reputation (but really, to keep their cash cow flowing). No wonder G feels so powerless, but no wonder Victoria feels trapped, y’know?

I’m glad you could call G out for that. Like, I get it, but also, girl, what the fuck?! But I fully sympathize with them :sob: G, I’m gonna get you outta there!

I’m still a Seven apologist, but if the game gives me a flirt option, I’m going to click it. Sorry to Seven, maybe they should step up their game :woman_shrugging:t4:

Gender is definitely a factor in that it can drastically alter the fallout of any huge status quo change for Vic and G (the stakes for women/femme folks are just higher here), but an abuser’s gonna abuse regardless. Viktor’s got a couple of pawns in play here.

Savina never ever. Nope. Will not allow it to happen even if I have to literally rewrite the code for it, we all make sacrifices.

You will hate Avina with a raging passion afterwards in most cases. I’m trying to have a benefit of a doubt, but my benefit is small and my doubt is minimal.

I can smell the angst AND YEEEESSSS!!! BRING IT ON !:sparkles::skull:

Realistically, yeah, but I do wonder how much of that we’ll be able to experience in-game. I know it’ll have its limitations, but I appreciate the variations we see between Griffin and Gina.

Viktor still needs to eat shit, though.

Oh the misery something something about the ENEMYYYY~ jerma :speaking_head:

Oh, for sure for sure - sometimes a story is limited by the mode or medium and I think that’s true here. That would only add to the load of variations Amy would have to write.

You know what? LA was actually great! We didn’t see much of them, but :face_holding_back_tears: someone who believes in you without so much angst and red tape >>>>>>

Well, remember Amy doesn’t like happy. She likes misery. Given how awful people in the industry are, even an apparent “win” (winning the competition) would be painted with some sort of misery. A shit contract because you’ve been labeled a cheater and it’s just snowballing now. Blake will continue to fuck you over and get people to yell “cheater” at you no matter how many times you eke out a win (I’m guessing there will be forced losses, much like this auto win for this chapter), and fans are fucking insane, anyway, and once they turn against the MC, they’ll just recruit more haters to help them destroy the MC. I have a feeling Maya is going to get caught in the crossfire and get hurt either physically or emotionally.

Maybe. I’m just convinced this isn’t supposed to be a “happy ending” story. The MC may be able go grow from the experience–and possibly get strong enough that they don’t give a shit about the band, romance, family, or their career because they realize they can survive without any of it–but I think that may be the best case scenario. She likes breaking the MC too much to allow them to have more than that. Seven, on the other hand, will get a happy ending no matter what, because she loves Seven.

There seems to be kind of a pattern, from what I can tell from the code. Therea re certain things Seven goes rabid over, whether the MC is nice or not, and you lose points–any mention that Seven might have also been at fault for the breakup, being dismissive of Avina’s perfection (when they’re nice, if you tell them to stop pretending to be nice to you, you lose like 5 points with Seven, but gain 5 if you kiss Avina’s ass), or coming down on Seven’s singing. Jealousy is rewarded to an extent–don’t diss Avina in any way or you lose points, but if you seem hurt over Seven singing to Avina, Seven is happy. I need to go back and check the code, but there is definitely a pattern and certain topics that appeal to 7 no matter how they’re presented and others that piss them off no matter how they’re presented.

But Avina isn’t Seven’s groupie. They are literally with Seven 24/7 (no pun intended), and Seven clings to them like a baby to their mommy. Seven can’t function without Avina, at this point, and Avina has their claws so deep into Seven that Seven will never get away–anyone romancing Seven is going to have to accept Avina and kiss their ass constantly, or Seven will quickly get over the MC and never look back.

It’d be funny if it was Seven. I have a feeling it is G, though.

I did, too. It was actually funny seeing her (Cory) respond to a nice MC, like she didn’t know what to do with someone who actually cared if she got hurt or not. I enjoyed the interaction.

At the point where you have the cute little handhold, I was about to be all-in for having a dedicated Seven-mancer. It was the first time I’ve actually seen and felt a connection between MC and Seven, like Seven doesn’t actually hate the MC and misses them.

But then the car scene was like someone took a huge shit on that idea and stood there laughing at my naivete and rejoicing in my MC’s pain. So that little connection meant nothing.

I really enjoyed Chapter 3! Granted, I’ve only played through it twice (I’ll explore the rest when Chapter 2 gets its update), but it felt like a good final instalment to the introductory chapters and I’m excited to see how things really take off going forward. Though it did make me realise how much of an ensemble cast Infamous is, which makes me wonder how on earth Amy plans to give them all full arcs (including all of the possible branches for the ROs) in just 20 chapters. I’m dying to see her notes and how she plans all of this but I’m also anxious just thinking about it lol

Chapter 3 made me so fond of August, I actually wasn’t too excited about them prior to this update but seeing how they are when they actually speak up was fun

I went into my second play through thinking I was going to find some crazy juicy Seven/Avina interactions after reading through here, so imagine my surprise when it’s just even more failed attention bids from Avina while 7/MC have their little staring contest. Each new chapter just convinces me of the new sibling/child relative theory but I keep having to remind myself not to get too comfortable because I just know I’m going to be blindsided

Dakota, my beloved. Obsessed with them. No other notes.

Intrigued by LA (and the fact that G doesn’t seem impressed with them giving MC their number). After learning what Velvet Novocaine is contracted to do after winning I’ve decided that second place is the new first place and that’s all I can hope for, for MC lol

My only criticism is that I didn’t like being forced to care about Vic’s movie, which sounds really harsh but nearly every other interaction with other characters has a choice to either say you don’t care about the topic or situation at hand, or to just say nothing at all, so randomly being forced to show concern or care for Vic’s movie, or how she’s supposed to follow G around, or about how taking lead roles vs leading lady roles, feels a little off. I can suspend disbelief at times when it comes to G, since the MC is supposed to canonically be a stan, but I’m not sure that that’s also supposed to extend to Vic?

!!! Did not mention this, but August is such a balm to the soul to this chapter, ‘cause why did every interaction with them have me in tears. They just get it. Like, what did MC ever do to deserve them? They’re so lowkey funny and mischievous and it’s so, so fun and sweet to see them come out their shell and banter back. August, I love youuuu :kissing_closed_eyes:

Maybe the romance won’t be locked behind these approval pips? Maybe? Because if it is, and if it defines whether Savina will happen, I will just start rewriting the code like you did with M for Wayhaven. Nothing major. Just twist the numbers around for a bit. Or write fanfics. Shame not much russian-speaking people are around in the IF fandom around things I like.

I still can’t figure out why, though. It’s like with Night Market - you wrote the MC, you made them the lenses through which the story is seen. It’s them who have to be a solid character with something distinct, they are a character in their own right.

Is it the pushback against power fantasy, quotation marks implied? I remember seeing something like that - that it is supposedly unfair that MC can achieve quite a lot, and the fact they are often given too mucn narrative lenience? This is a thing at times, and at times it is a problem, but cracking MC’s skull is also not an answer - even Ronin got to be badass before they were broken down and lost their Jigoku. There must be something to lose if there is something to gain, and I just… don’t see how the MC’s situation can get worse. They play in dive bars and clearly are reaching the point of band breakup. Can you really blame them for carpe diem?

To prevent the power fantasy there must be realistic consequences, and to be honest, game already dabbles in power fantasy to begin with. A hot sexy rockstar of your preferred gender saw (You) specifically, dragged you in despite the producers’ supposed chokehold over them and now you’re on Love Island with musical chairs. The same hot sexy rockstar will now watch over you and do whatever they can to ensure you will win big. MC’s position is already power fantasy. Why not indulge it, if we didn’t get in by our merit alone?

Some people say Cyberpunk is not power fantasy simply because MC suffers a lot and is dying. But a random wackjob merc (only corpo has some ground to stand on, they’re the opsec director) tramples an entire district, several gangs, entire army of Arasaka men, manages to defeat the supposedly dangerous and superior Oda who, according to Takemura, would kill them both with ease, smashes Smasher, defeats Hansen and manages to survive both the faculty with the incredibly jahhnybot and BLACKWALL POURING DIRECTLY THROUGH THEM. It’s still a power fantasy! It just pretends it’s not, and that’s a bit dishonest.

At times I wonder about a beautiful world where Avina doesn’t exist. I hate headcanoning around this narrative monkey wrench.

Why not Blake? He seemed weirdly protective of Dakota when he saw them in the bar. I think they also have black hair in a pair.

Omg I forgot to comment on LA: what little we were shown was so much fun, Amy cooked really good with that phone number scene… I was giggling like some sort of fake ass comic book villain

Also am currently reading the chapter again and, I don’t know if anyone said it yet, but I get the feeling that Dakota’s whole view of relationships has something to do with G and I just want to put them in a jar and shake them.
Honestly the more I think about Dakota, the more I’m like yeah that’s my number one blorbo, sorry sev we’ll talk when we’ll stop fighting… 84 years from now
