In memory of Brittany Kiera Martin, known to us as Eiwynn

The Choice of Games community mourns the loss of Brittany Kiera Martin, known on our Forum as Eiwynn, who passed away very suddenly on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

She was a mainstay of the Choice of Games Forum for many years, where she generously gave countless hours of her time as a moderator, as well as a mentor to many. Her kindness, humor, and patience helped make the Forum a welcoming space, and she worked hard to bring new members into the community.

She was especially noted for her work in fostering new writers. She initiated the Author Support threads on the Forum, where writers could offer each other commiserations, congratulations, and advice on their works in progress. Many authors have said that it was her encouraging advice that enabled them to complete – or even begin – their first ChoiceScript game.

In memory of her life, and in honor of her legacy as a mentor to writers in the ChoiceScript community, Choice of Games has made a donation to 826: National Youth Writing, a charitable organization that strives to strengthen communities across the US by creating local spaces where young people can receive free writing lessons and learn how to expand their creative worlds.

We offer our deepest sympathy to her spouse, friends, and the many many people whose lives she made better through her presence in our community. She will be greatly missed.

For all the work @Eiwynn did in helping other writers better themselves I think that is such a suitable cause to donate to in her memory.

This is such an absolute shock. Having been a member (more often lurker these days) since i was still in Junior high school and was discovering writing and the english language, Eiwynn’s feedbacks have always stood out to me every time i see them in a random post thread somewhere because of how well constructed and well thought out the wordings were as if it all just comes naturally for her. Her username was one of the most familiar sight i see here. I know this is down in the depths of the internet sphere and probably wont mean much to many people outside of our community but she really did helped a lot of people out and impacted some. Even unknowingly like me who gathered so many tips and learned how to construct proper paragraphs, so much so that it really helped me in english debate competitions.

My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. I will absolutely miss seeing her name pop up here.

Speaking as a fellow disabled person, I’m still in awe that Eiwynn has gave so much of her time being one of the important pillars of this community and because of that, I plan to donate some money next month if I’m able to for a CP charity in her name.

I truly do hope that the Monthly Author thread will continue as I see it as the most important part of her legacy that she left behind. I have some pity that the newcomers in the future will never able to know just how kind Eiwynn was but I also plan to uphold that by greeting any newcomers with kindness as she did in the past on countless occasions.

Godspeed Eiwynn. I hope that you’re finally free from your disability in the afterlife and I’ll never forget what an incredible person that you were. Perhaps in your memory, I can at least try to do a disability thread in order to help anyone with an disability to find tools they need to live a comfortable life.

In memory of Brittany Kiera Martin, known as Eiwynn I dedicate this poem to you.

"In the hushed whispers of twilight’s embrace,
A mourning muse sings softly through the space.
Brittany Kiera Martin, known as Eiwynn’s grace,
Has passed beyond to a serene, starlit place.

She penned her soul in words both strong and kind,
A beacon that to countless hearts did bind.
Her stories, like threads through time entwined,
Wove tales of hope that bolstered the troubled mind.

A mentor to the dreamers, in her light they grew,
In her garden of wisdom, where inspiration flew.
She nurtured future scribes, as their courage she knew,
In each of them, her spirit’s seeds anew.

The community now dons a garb of grief,
For the shepherd of their spirits, oh so brief.
Yet in the throes of pain, finds a belief,
In the legacy she leaves, a solace, a relief.

May her memories, like treasures, gleam
In the hearts of those she helped to dream.
And as they gaze upon the starry stream,
May her sparkling legacy in their spirits beam.

For Brittany, who crossed life’s great divide,
Leaves a lustrous light that will ever reside.
In the lore she gave us, forever our guide,
In her stories, her essence, eternally allied.

Farewell, dear Eiwynn, your journey now starts,
In the celestial halls, where art meets heart.
Rest now in peace, from us, you depart,
Your memory etched within our communal heart."

This is heartbreaking news. I was lucky enough to get some feedback from Eiwynn, and it was filled with constructive suggestions and thoughtful insight. I was always so heartened to see her posts, full of encouragement for fellow writers and helpful tips and articles. May she rest in peace.

I got so sad and shocked when I got this notification. She once gave me a warning and we discussed about rules. It was the only time I interacted with her directly and now I’m so sad that I didn’t use that as an excuse to get to know her better and maybe even become friends. maybe? I missed my chance for that unfortunately. But this is a reminder that we should savor every minutes of life and care for each other because life is so Stange and we never know when is our last chance to lay our hearts and see our loved ones.
Please just take care of yourselves and don’t miss any second you can have with you family or friends and make all those moments count. I feel this is what she may have asked of us herself :broken_heart:

Thank you so much for this poem! I know Brittany would have loved it! I have read it many times over the past week a hope she was reading over my shoulder. We were together for 26 years and your poem describes her so clearly! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I haven’t been on the forums for quite some time but to see this was heartbreaking. While I never got to talk personally with her, it was rare to see a thread where she didn’t pop up, and she always had thoughtful critiques for game authors. Her presence will be sorely missed.

I hope that wherever she is, she is in a happier place now, and my best goes out to her friends and family.

I’ve not been active here for a while but had to post to say how sad I was to hear this news. I exchanged quite a few messages with her in the past and she just seemed the sweetest, loveliest person, terrifically supportive of both new and established writers, and a gifted storyteller herself. Much love to her family and friends.

Horrible to see this, never spoke with her or had the pleasure to meet her but may she rest in peace as she deserves. You will live forever in the hearts of those you helped Brittany!

To Caitlin (Brittany’s spouse). I understand the weight of loss, but also the meaning of appreciating those we love each and every day. I wrote this song a while back during a time of loss, I think it is a message worth hearing and one that you and Brittany would have appreciated together. She will always be there in your heart. Remember her song always. May heaven’s tears fall always upon your heart to light the way.

“Life provides no guarantees,

That today might not be the last sunset you see,

There are no promises of what tomorrow might bring,

So, raise up your voice and sing,

To friends, to lovers, to mothers and fathers,

To brothers, and sisters celebrate our time together,

No guarantees of what life will give to us,

So, laugh out loud and cry when you can,

We honor the dead by sharing our hearts,

Full of love lost, full of lives not yet done,

So, raise up your voice and sing,

Of the moments must treasured,

Of the memories held dear,

Of the tears that are coming,

Over losing someone so dear.”
