Give it a shot. Great series and Junko is a psycho bitch
This… is not a plus.
No no. Junko by all matter of sane standards, will never be a plus unless you’re into that. The series itself though, worth a try. One of my top 5. I cannot fully explain her jnsanity without spoiling book 4
The character development of the MC is probably one of the best I’ve seen in a COG game too
In a similar vein to characters not taking no for an answer, Love At Elevation does this super crappy thing where you get forced into a romance whether you like it or not, and trying to break it off is like pulling teeth, and if you succeed, the story beats you over the head for it. This had the adverse result of making me hate EVERY romance in that game, for that reason and the similar reason of every RO basically being a cardboard cutout of the same person. The most characterization any of them got was on first meeting: one RO is a fitness freak, one is a yoga instructor, I believe the third is an activist (haven’t played since the first time, details foggy), and they all three have the EXACT same romance path.
Or, “breaking up path,” in my case, since I didn’t appreciate being shoved into a relationship against my choosing and so spitefully broke up with them on purpose.
As for the initial point of “characters don’t take no for an answer,” the one that comes to mind for me (apart from Black Magic, as I explained earlier in the thread) is probably Y(urui, in my case) from the A Mage Reborn WIP. Without getting too into spoiler territory:
After a war between the nation you previously served and an enemy nation, you wind up being executed, then resurrected by said enemy nation and forced to work for them. Up to the point of your execution, the nation you serve, in my mind at least, is shown almost without question to be the objective good guys of the plot - like, most of your ROs you meet are from that nation, and they’re all good people. The enemy nation, on the other hand, are pretty much from the start shown to be utter bastards who like to fall back on the “wrongful persecution” card to justify all their shitty acts. Yurui is one of the agents of said enemy nation, and from the minute you get resurrected, she is relentless in hitting on you, even if you have made it clear beyond question that she is so far down on your list as to be negligible as a romantic option. Hell, I’m pretty sure she has a line where she outright declares that she’s not gonna stop anytime soon. For my character, who was unflinchingly loyal to her former nation, this was - how should I put this - extremely shitty and annoying. Especially since the enemy nation expects, no, demands that you agree with their stance, and if you don’t, they hold the fact that they’ve got you on a leash over your head in order to force you to do their bidding. It makes me seriously wonder how I’m even supposed to start seeing the ROs from the enemy nation as ROs. Not to mention that the other enemy nation RO just acts like a bitch to you at all times because she feels that you’ve squandered and slandered the oh-so-precious-and-mighty blood of your people by fighting for the “wrong” side.
I’m GREATLY familiar with AMR. Wasn’t aware Yu kept pursuing you if you turned her down, because I never do - playful, kickass, compassionate redhead? Where’s the bottom line so I can sign that contract?
Yeah, I’m not going to go over this in detail here, because it’d completely derail the thread, but since the “enemy” nation are people trying to stop getting genocided without provocation by the nation you used to serve, wwwweeeeeelllllll…
Ah, yes, why can’t the slave girl just not understand how great her slavers actually are? How dare she!
My thoughts on the AMR factions are well and extensively documented on that thread. Except on Yotai, I guess, because they’re mostly a political non-entity.
Hi, can we not accuse me of spewing bullshit that I didn’t even say? Thanks.
Hell, it wasn’t even in that context in the first place, I meant it in the sense that your character, who, prior to their resurrection, had no idea what their bloodline even meant, obviously wouldn’t have cause to treat it as anything other than a tool in their arsenal, and yet that RO comes out of nowhere and starts treating you like shit for insults you would have had no idea you were even making at that point. You get insulted and berated for ignorance that wasn’t even of your own choosing. It has nothing to do with the crap you’re trying to claim that I said.
No, she treats you like shit because you were the literal bodyguard and BFF of the king whose kingdom continuously genocides her ethnicity without provocation, which, honestly, it’s a pretty fair cop.
I didn’t even realize Love at Elevation had more than one RO. The only choice I got was “Date this person or no?” not “Who do you want to date?”
There have been other times that I failed to realize this… Maybe having relationship locks before meeting all the ROs is kinda, I dunno, a bad idea.
So, because my character happened to meet the future king of a kingdom that did terrible things - which neither of them were responsible for, and probably weren’t even alive when those terrible things happened to begin with, and which my character was certainly not informed of prior to the resurrection and would thus have little reason to even take that into consideration - and became friends with the guy, and worked alongside him to rule a kingdom that, for all its faults in the past, had been treating her and her friends well enough and seemed to be on the up and up with its own people… that means that the RO from the persecuted nation has the right to shit all over my character, because apparently my character stands in support of a genocide that she was left in the dark about for the entirety of her life up to that point.
Sounds to me like some priorities are in desperate need of refocusing. If she wants to snarl and snap at the actual guilty party, that’s fine, but my character’s only crime was fighting to defend a kingdom that, as far as she knew, was simply her home. If this scenario is translated to real life, I’m not going to sit and feel guilty because some ancestor of mine did horrible things that I didn’t know about, long before I was ever a thought in anyone’s mind. Will I feel bad when I find out? Sure. But anybody expecting me to carry blame I didn’t incur for a crime I didn’t commit, or even know had happened, can go to hell.
Likewise, so can that RO. I don’t give a shit how justified her anger is, I’m not going to sit and let myself be made a target for her resentment, that’s a load of crap.
I usually silent and just lurking, but i will engage with this once and I’ll be back to lurking.
Stop with the AMR debate. Please. People have their own opinion. Respect that. Move on. You’re passionate about Arcadia? Great. People wants to side with Param? Let them. If people hate Arcadia, let them be. That’s their own opinion, just like you hate Param, you can’t force people to like what they don’t like.
That’s all. Thank you, peace out.
Yeah, agreed. I hate getting into fights anyhow, so I’m already cringing at the part I played in it.
For me it’s hands down Darcy from the WIP Professor of Magical Studies. I figured she’d be kind of like Bobby, slimy, but kind of harmless as an ex. Nope. No. Nah. UH UH. Frick Darcy, frick her family to hecc, frick her entire bloodline. I restarted that entire WIP to make a character that could successfully screw her over at every single interval. It took me days of reviewing choices and outcomes specifically to screw her over.
Don’t get me wrong she’s like Joffrey in the sense that it’s fun to hate her and I don’t want her to change. I also wanna fling a piece of dung at her at mach 5 on her wedding day. I want to ruin her career, ruin her next career, ruin every instance of joy and happiness she will ever find, I want to make her new SOs cheat on her, I want to make it so that every night when she falls asleep she has nightmares of me ruining everything she’s ever loved, stood for, and worked for. I want her driven to the point of insanity.
Edit: Now I have to play it again.
I mean, in fairness, Bobby isn’t quite “harmless.” They run a direct risk of exposing the true nature of your job every time they turn up, and they’re A-OK with slandering you in the local paper and thus incurring the mayor’s wrath upon you just for the hell of having a good story.
But as for fricking Darcy and her family to hecc, I have this to add to the ever-growing list of things related to Darcy that can be fricked to hecc:
Just curious, did she cheat on the MC?
As far as I’m aware no, I may have uhhhh gotten carried away. I just genuinely, fervently hate her. (She’s also gender selectable, but she was a woman in my game.)
In all fairness I think I view reporters so low (no offense, just a lot of people I know who wanted to be reporters are like Bobby) that I didn’t actually view her that bad. She basically met my expectations lol.
To clarify, Darcy becomes your MC’s ex after stabbing you in the back for the sake of securing a prestigious scholarship opportunity. The implication is that either you, or Darcy, broke it off shortly following that act.
Pretty much like Bobby then. A big asshole
