I'm Sorry, But I Think We Should See Other People - ROs You Hate

I can’t for the love of god, bring myself to try doing Darcy from Professor of Magical Studies romance route . They taken advantage of MC (even if you used to be a lover). And when they both reunite, they didn’t feel any remorse, and try every single opportunity to take any credit for themselves. For the work both mc and them done. They are so infuriating and unapologetic I can’t help but decline all of their date offer without being suspicious of them. Resulting to locking out their romance route.

I guess it was supposed to be their character, and it MEANT to be that way, but my god they are such opportunist asshole. :sob:

For those who does their route pls tell me how it went. How much yall suffer, I want detail, but too furious to actually play one. :‘’))

Darcy is interesting in that they DO feel remorse, and you can get a proper apology from them later if you want, but they keep doing bad things after that. They even have a conversation later where they are self aware about being a shithead instinctually, but don’t know how to stop. The epilogue does indicate that they do manage to get better after their final self-flagellation though.

I’m actually thinking of making a post on the ROs others hate that you like thread about Darcy, because with all the enemies to lovers where they are wizard hitler or in the Kuomintang or whatever, it’s nice to have one who is just kind of a shithead, who you might actually run into in real life. The degree of self-awarness while not being able to stop being a petty dick felt very real, lol.

yeah I guess Darcy is too real lmao. Never in my life I want to punch fictional character before, Kinda impressive actually lol.

Also they kinda remind me of Bobby? This time you can romance them but they just won’t stop being shithead for you to like them enough. Good to know at least Darcy felt remorseful… well eventually, but I’m not patient enough to read through all their fuckery :sob:

Well, I know other ros who most people hate I guess; Jun(ko). I also one of the people who hate junko, but yeah kinda curious why people like them.

I actually like Darcy, because from my point of you, nothing they do towards you is really anything personal, they want success, and that means getting access to opportunities that competitors don’t get, it’s a ruthless mindset, not exactly a nice one, but it’s one I can understand, which is why I generally do the same thing back on their route

They lock you in a room so you miss your meeting for the job they want like what?

Yeah, it’s nothing personal, they wanted the fellowship, they had a good reason to assume that they were going to lose, you were in the way. if it had been somebody else in their way, they would have done the same thing.

i’d love to throw my hat into the darcy hate ring because wowie every time they’re on screen my eyes glaze over until they’re gone. they’re just so concerned with their career/reputation/whatever that they’re fully willing to sacrifice close relationships for it and im thinking babe all this to be a teacher?? like they’re not even betraying you for a GOOD job (not me hating on teachers btw, just saying they’re crazy underpaid and overworked) i’d hate to see how awful they could be in a cutthroat job like uh… idk… stockbroker or whatever.

there is also one i despise… it was from a WIP where the MC is a ghost from like 600 years ago. i can’t remember the name of it, idk if it’s even still being worked on, but you have the option of being romance partners with this dude who (from what i remember) cheats on you (or maybe cheated WITH you?), dumps you for the girl he cheated with, expects you and her to be all buddy-buddy and invites her along to your bestie activities, acts like a complete dick & to top things off he betrays/kills you and condemns you to a ghostly existence for centuries. i can’t even remember his name i just remember how much i hated that fuckin guy. shame that the WIP was never finished bc i would’ve loved to punch him straight in the sack

My least favorite RO are those characters, often sidekicks, that occasionally crop up in these games where the author obviously likes them about a thousand times more than I do, and they are constantly feted in the writing and foisted upon me. I’m hesitant to call out particular games, but I’m sure if the thought has traction with any of you, then certain ones are already coming to mind for you.

And as awful as Darcy was, at least you get to spend the rest of the game making her suffer for her betrayals. That was darkly enjoyable. I need to go back and replay it because I’m hoping you can deliver the ultimate revenge by having that entity possess her once and for all.

You will have to look long and hard to find anything more cutthroat than academia, especially tenure track academia, and you might not find it at all.

The ghost story is Spellbound: A Ghost Story (WIP) [Updated January 22, 2023], still totally being worked on. I personally am not following it anymore for unrelated reasons but yeah, that dude’s a prick at the best of times. I’m gay as fuck so I’ve never been in a relationship with him but “somehow” I’m incredibly unsurprised by the fact that he cheated on you and all that follows.
I recognize it’s because the whole thing has to be a betrayal and shit so you’re required to have been kinda friendly with him at some point in time, but I haven’t any idea why anyone would be. He’s so manipulative, petty, and self-centered, and yet somehow I disliked him more with literally every scene. Just more backstory gets revealed and I’m like “okay why am I forced to hang around this unhinged so obviously evil piece of shit”. Doesn’t make any sense to me and absolutely destroys any immersion the game builds up, at least for me, but I haven’t any idea who’d think he’s nice to be around even in the context of fiction.

aaah you’re a queen for finding this thank you!! but yeah seriously no he is the worst, i wish you could kick him in the dick. he’s on par with jun/ko for me personally because while yes jun/ko is arguably much more psycho & wants to kill/r*pe you she does !SPOILER! (to her credit…… not that she has much to begin with) kind of save your ass by sacrificing herself whereas this bitchboy straight up kills you, your friends, betrays everything he’s had an allegiance to ever, and condemns you to centuries of torment.

if i ever play this wip again i want to be a dick to him the entire time. i don’t care what the author says homeboy is not my friend and i will gut-punch him if given the chance. ANY romance option who is a huge jerk but the author/story seemingly defends and tries to get you to empathise with is automatically #1 Worst Freak and banished to Nasty Island for all eternity with junko and that one guy.

im quite curious as to why you’re done with the story though, i haven’t read it in ages, does more eye roll-worthy stuff happen that im not privy to?

(sorry for repost im not well-versed in using forums)

sorry to be a callum defender but iirc he didn’t cheat on the mc bc they were never in a relationship? at least from what i remember of the story lol he didn’t cheat, he just led both the mc and the other girl on :sob: but no cheating.

i could be wrong though, my memory isn’t great and i’m too lazy to go and check. what i do remember is that, while i liked the character, he was indeed a huge dick so i can’t correct anyone on that. there were points in the story where he was being particularly dickish where i wish the mc had the option to be angrier at him than they actually were.

No, he doesn’t. He does indeed lead MC on but it never crosses the line into actual cheating.

Also, just to clarify some things: Callum isn’t a RO. He’s a character you can have a romantic past with, but the only ROs of Spellbound at this juncture are the six in the main post.

Also also, I feel like we could all ease up on the inflammatory language for the time being: it doesn’t foster a productive discussion.

a callum defender….? in these sacred forums…??? haha but no you could be totes right my memory is also really bad so it’s possible he didn’t technically cheat.

don’t get me wrong i do like the story & i do like callum, in the type of way that it’s boring to get along with everyone and have no beef ever. conflict makes things fun and interesting obvs so callum is def good for that, but boy i sure wish the author would let me call him out (i don’t think i remember giving him a satisfying smack down but could be wrong)

i think the biggest glaring issue of these freaked up ROs is that 9 times out of 10 you can’t give them a verbal or physical lashing. you’re kinda railroaded into letting them treat you badly and that’s the biggest sin of all imo. bring on the evil jerky villains and the magic hitlers all day long, but for freaks sake let me cuss at them!!

Basically just I really hated most of the characters we kept having to deal with, and then as the conflict revealed itself (like who the bad guys are), it’s not something I like. In essence, that conflict paired with one of those characters (and how you’re forced to interact with them and never given a real opportunity to call them out) makes pretty clear to me where the author and the story lie politically and it’s not something I like. I don’t think I should say any more since I know A) this is off topic and would get this shunted to the Politics thread, and B) I expect people would take it the wrong way without a lot of explaining, and even then it wouldn’t be well appreciated. But that’s it in essence; like I said, personal reasons.
To clarify, I’m sure the author is a totally fine person. Other parts of that story make it clear, I think. But, based on how that one character is handled and how the story was going, there’s some strong disagreements that I’m sure we would have.

aaah i must have misremembered then, that’s my bad! also sorry for inflammatory language, this is the first forum i’ve used so not super familiar with forum etiquette but i will tone down the cussing in future :^)

yeah, me too. i love it when RO’s are like. huge assholes for no reason but if the game doesn’t let me be an asshole back, or worse — it does but it judges me for it — it’s just a huge turn off for me tbh. sometimes i like to play an MC who just… lets a RO be a jerk to them and doesn’t say anything, but that hugely depends on the story and the RO.

like, i don’t care how sad their backstory is or how much reason they have in their head to be an asshole — if a RO is just… a jerk to the MC for literally no reason at all how is MC in the wrong for not taking it in silence? there’s a game i remember to be a particular offender of this, but i won’t discuss it bc it’s not on the forums and, again, my memory could be wrong.

I have a weird thing for characters who are jerks, although it is highly context-sensitive (they also need to know when to not be jerks… it can be done!) but I have to agree with you on “being a jerk to you all the time for no reason”
