I’ve noticed that in the character selection part, you can’t choose whether to make the army respect you or fear you, so I suggest you add the option to choose between them.
Anyways, out of curiosity, how is the lottery in the game going to work? Will it only include the levies or the retinue as well? And how will it effect the economy? Game later says that most of the male population that was in acceptable enough conditions was taken from Wrido but I still wonder if there could be a chance to choose to lower the amount of people that get chosen for the lottery and stuff like that.
As a side thing, the game’s text should be a bit more clear on the fact that choosing the lottery decreases army loyalty even if slightly because the text “why let a factor as important as the quality of your fighting men up to chance?” may imply it does decrease loyalty but it looks more like the personal thoughts of the Marshall rather than what the army will think of the lottery.
Did I say that? Uh no actually I didn’t say that I said why does everyone think that everyone would hate it
I gotta assume you didn’t read the whole thing because you would’ve or should’ve atleast ben able to tell I meant that your others vassals and court probably would like you more for it but majority probably would not hate you for it atleast
And yes I’m fully aware that it would destroy your reputation with them
Unless you could somehow convince the Kroridians but no, actually, independence is overrated and you should go back to being a client state of ours or else, which I very much doubt they’ll go along with, then nothing else matters.
*fake_choice
#You will wear a soldier's garb; you are a monarch at war, after all. It'd be improper to wear anything else.
Humility is rarely a positive trait for a monarch. A sense of pride and elaborate self-praise is the standard for any ruler of any country that you know of. The Church saints may talk positively of the humble holy monarchs of the past, but the nobility have a set of different expectations.
*if (gender = "male")
It is unconventional to wear the equipment of a soldier to such a formal setting, but kings in armor are not unheard of. Quite the opposite, in fact. A king's duties extend to the battlefield.
*else
It won't paint a conventional image of yourself--but you're a woman and a usurper, anyway. Nothing about your rulership is conventional. Perhaps leaning into the almost mythic quality of your reign is a strong idea.
*if (gender = "female") #You will wear an ornate and flowing dress, fit for a queen. It is your right, and it is what is expected of you.
Queen Regnants--rulers as opposed to consorts--are not uncommon. Kanton specifically has known a few, and you know that it's even more common in the harsh jungles of Krorid.
To achieve an image of authority as a female ruler, you must dress differently than a man would. The elaborate nature of a royal's dress is a method of communicating wealth and prestige--and therefore power.
There is more strength in a queen's dyed fabrics than in any knight's lance.
*if (gender = "male") #You will wear the fine and elaborate clothing of a king. It is your right, and it is what is expected of you.
To those unfamiliar with the trappings of royalty, the dress of a king may seem strange and unnecessary. But having been raised in the sphere of royalty, you know better. You know that how a king presents himself is of the utmost importance.
c1_Outfit is not set to 1 or 2 if you play the Usurper route
Also, upon reading through the code in the usurper route, Velinor is hilarious. That being said, I wonder why Dismas (if alive) has not joined him as the Marshal’s bodyguard. Even in the Loyal route he’s hilarious.
If we are romancing Obren, we don’t get the choice in setup to determine whether he has a beard or not. We also don’t get to see that he’s clean-shaven if not romanced.
All things my mc doesn’t really care about anyway. If my mc were to accept the job if it were to be offered, a very big if requiring a highly specific set of circumstances and conditions, then he’d also want to become the best at it that he possibly can. He would never be content to be an idiot like Joffrey.
There are a lot of comments and it’s a little difficult to respond to everything, but I have read all of them and should have caught all the bugs. Thanks for the reports, everyone. My terrible code requires a baptism in fire.
That’s a primary element of the second chapter, actually.
no
I thought there was? Maybe it’s bugged or I forgot?
no
They’ll be present more. Though perhaps mentioning many of the men who carry out the purge are the dishonored would be a decent touch.
You can command an all out calvary army if (possible) you can ally with one of the steppe nobles and decide to go and live in the steppe (as Khan?lol)
For a guerrilla specialist army you will need to become the ruler of the Jungle province where the rangers come from, and you can do this by straight up rebelling against the queen or asking for the province’s independence as a reward for your services.
And for a Roman themed army you try to become the ruler of Katan and go from there tho personally I would just leave the mc sister there cuz she’s pretty chill lol
Like I said before its not really feasible to field a all cav army in the first game exspecially one of any significant size through normal game mechanics. As to the whole steppe nobels will half to see how that all plays out we acctualy got little info on them. Though if I recall correctly its been said in the past in this second game we will be getting chances to recruit more cav cheaper lol or something with them ive forgotten the details on that.
As for the jungle province you got all that wrong lol they allready have there independence by way of the agreement for there help to defeat rade. So as long as both sides stay true to that no rebellion needed. As well the MC allready is loved by there people so you wouldn’t need to rule them your words would carry alot of weight allready.
As for the roman themed bit we got that allready with or without being ruler. For we got the big title second only to the queen our half sister exspecially when it comes to the military. Lol hell if we go the route of being on good terms with her once the current ruler of the jungle province/kingdom dies. She would support us becoming its ruler if we wanted for the family line does have a blood claim and then you throw in its people’s current love for us. We’ll the odds are in our favor lol
I think there is a glitch during character creation after picking the intelligence victory ignoring the final battle. No matter what choice you pick after it still asks how the final battle went.
Progress for chapter two is coming along well, moving ahead of schedule, actually. A part of me wants to turn back and add more content to chapter one, but I have a general rule to always push forward in IF, save the rewrite for the second draft.
I put out a more in-depth breakdown of the chapter structure for supporters on Patreon (please give me money please please please i’m just a goblin i need coins guilt trip guilt trip)
I’m putting some serious thought into opening a Tumblr account, as well. I had a friend IRL recently point out that there are several posts about both ITFO and ITUO on tumblr. Maybe there’s an untapped market there .
I also uncovered @SchLoZo’s stash of questionable Whiskey-Four and ITFO art.
I’ve thought about it before but ultimately decided against it, but if I’m trying to make writing more of a full time gig, then I’ll need to make sure I have a large presence. I’m just not a very… community focused writer? I’d prefer to silently read comments and write, rather than manage a social media presence.
Regardless, I will continue trucking along on chapter two and inform of updates as they occur
I think bringing them both is the smart play, honestly. The absolute last thing I’d want to do is leave them back in the city alone where they could plot and scheme and fuck things up without direct supervision. Better to keep them under your thumb.
I was responding to someone else who said that bringing even one of them was a dumb idea (from Elya).
@Bacondoneright
Also, I figured out why Darin’s character description wasn’t showing up in the stats page of ITF1 if you went to the ball and went quietly with the guards when they escort you out for party crashing (and informing Elya and/or the nobles about Sobik’s death).
Yippeee we love to see it. Am hyped up still though I know realistically imma have to wait a while.
That’d be good if you’re up for it. And people who are too nervous/reluctant to talk in the forum can always post anonymously there.
Exciting :O, also idk if youre too busy but it might be a good idea to have a few more benefits for subbing to the patreon listed, if thats your intention. Like maybe early access or short relevant stories like scenes with other characters (canon or not).
1 - SAPPHIC ROMANCE!!! (which I was slightly hoping to see in this first chapter but alas I am grateful nonetheless). I remember when you replied to a comment in the old thread saying you were uncomfortable writing a F/F route but man oh man am I grateful that you changed your mind. If it weren’t for the Marshal and the army departing the castle again I would have hoped for a lady-in-waiting type of romance option but seeing as we’re immediately off to war again I’m curious to see who this woman will be and what their stakes in the story will be.
2 - The regent route, although for now it looks really similar to the Queen Elya route… sans Elya. I went into it with my Marshal being the only “royal” member left alive (Elya, Vedrin and Mira all died) and with the whole family dead the Marshal has no choice but to keep going either for their own survival or for the good of their people… and who knows, if they are good enough of a regent they might become the monarch.
3 - Usurper route. I was immediately broken by Elya’s words but really, I inadvertedly killed her brother and pretended to support her for an entire game in that route, what else did I honestly expect. Additionally, the chaos that unravels should you choose to talk with Obren and Velinor about murdering half the court, while the castle is silently raided with the purpose of rescuing Elya, and later learning there is a whole faction you don’t know about yet that is actively working against you from day one…
One of the very best character builders I’ve ever seen in a sequel demo imo. Thanks for letting us basically recreate the playthrough end state @Bacondoneright!
