Whether that will change in this book, I am uncertain. In my current rewrite of the Ch.3 battle, you only get in actual combat briefly in a single path. Not a whole lot of actual stabbing to do.
Milly’s “stab, stab stabstabstabstab” came to mind when I read this.
Fundamentally changing something long-established and what the player selected whole book ago doesn’t sound like a good idea, tbh. Especially if it means potentially getting penalized for that choice.
On one hand, Weapons path fans will not be thrilled.
On the other, I hope Leadership gets a chance to shine on Usurper and Regent routes.
Maybe just add small, different rewards for winning fights with different styles, especially for Weapons marshals. Like graceful getting a small noble loyalist boost, or brutal increasing army fear.
They will with this most recent fight, though. Only with a weapons path can you potentially get into a fight with Rade himself.
Can you kill or permanently injure him? Because if not it’ll have no lasting impact, much like weapons specialisation in the first game
Not necessarily. A fight can also have psychological impact, even if there’s no physical injury to speak of.
Flavor should be flavor, it worked in the first game and there’s no reason it shouldn’t in the second. Same reason I don’t think there needs to be a huge focus on trying to make weapons specialization more useful. You get cool battle sequences single-handedly, that’s enough for me. You go into this game being told you’re a general of men, not a single standalone warrior, if you pick a specialization whose whole thing is personal combat that’s kind of on you
Seconded re: the fighting styles.
As for weapons, I have no skin in that game, but I want Leadership to really shine with the coalition (especially if Elya isn’t around to bring people together).
As someone who always picks weapon specialization, I never once felt like I was severely limiting my character. Battle sequences and your success are heavily dependant on army composition, specialized troop trainings, and tactics used. Even as weapons master, you can inflict incongruent losses on your enemies in every battle other than Belos’ Folly. Heavy usage of archers with a professional core as the main force of your army absolutely destroys on the battlefield.
I take back everything I said, weapons Marshall is the best out of all, long live King Bacon!
Formation Fighting II should still be a very strong retinue though.
OMFG I WENT WITH TACTICS MARSHAL
YOU MEAN TO TELL ME I LOST MY CHANCE TO GET CLOSE TO MY BABYGIRL RADE??
Rade breathing heavy sigh of relief off screen
I don’t think Rade will be like Uly and appreciate a Marshal trying to smooch him mid battle.
Radę is just shy tsundere xx
Rade: It’s not like I like you, Marshal! Come closer…so I can stab you! And only stab you! Not kiss you, you fool!
and I would wonder if Schlozo has art of Rade in tsundere pigtails
Lol if they dont then it wont be long before they do i imagine.
I did not need mental image of Tohsaka Rin with a beard, thankyouverymuch.
