I’m so excited and ready for it.

My Marshal’s obsession begins

I can’t take ITFO seriously anymore because of that cowboy hat head. Every time I read ITFO, I see the cowboy hat head. Sometimes I forget the cowboy hat head doesn’t even exist in canon. I was reading the guerilla warfare route and got to the part where the Marshal was hiding in the grass. All I could think was “wait how can he hide in the grass if his cowboy hat head is so big?”

Anyway, I’ve decided my Marshal’s obsession with Rade is because of brain damage.

Honestly the brain damage explanation explains so much.

It’s not this chapter, I’m sorry :downcast_face_with_sweat:

Brain damage implies there was a brain to damage in the first place and i’m pressing X on that.

I’ll probably be dead asleep when the second chapter drops, but I’ll just play it after I wake.

Yep. I recall. Still excited for when she shows up.

@SchLoZo Dont tempt me to that dark side your in with Lady Rada. She would be a dommy too. Well. Now that I said that…

I can contain my excitement.

For now.

I will be accepting restitution in the form of a passage from the lady’s perspective when she meets the Marshal.

(Not actually required, I just think it’d be cool)

Bacon is really great at PoV swap without causing issues. That would be cool!

The following is a demo update! (remember when I used to say that?)

Chapter two is ready for public release. It is 65,000 words spread across the three primary routes. There isn’t a whole lot of in-chapter choices for variation, but there are some serious differences based on who is alive, what the position of the marshal is, and so on and so forth. It’s an absolute nightmare under the hood, coding wise. I’d also say to not concern yourself with army balance too much; no casualty numbers are final atm.

In this chapter, experience:

  • Violence
  • Ambushes
  • More betrayal (yay!)
  • Romantic developments (with Obren)
  • Long conversations into the night
  • Improvements(?) to the Marshal’s mental health

I hope you enjoy! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if there are continuity issues, if Elya suddenly appears where she should be dead or usurped, etc. Thank you for enduring the long wait. I shall take the rest of today and tomorrow to just work on bug fixes and stuff, and then I’ll get started on Chapter Three next week. I took this little intervening week during the Patreon test mostly off for my own sake, but I’ll be back to work soon.

Thank you all!

Not Gideon…

@Bacondoneright The heavy cavalry limit glitch has not been fixed. Velinor’s hair color is still unknown.

Bacon is totally going to do the ASOIF thing where any random minor character who’s a soldier or whatever who receives a POV scene either dies during his scene or dies by the end of the story

I think there’s a mistake on the usurper route where Elya shows up while you’re being harassed by the enemy horse archers after leaving Winstead.

#You want nothing more than to charge forward and tear them apart.
#You are very, very tired of war.
#You’re starting to believe this is worse than Krorid.

You remain in formation because there is simply nothing else you can do. You must keep your infantry protected and shoot back at the enemy with your superior range and power.

It does not mean, however, that any of this is pleasant.

There’s an awful and loud crunch from the rear that causes you to whirl around. And you see a band of a dozen knights blitz forward from their patrol and drop lances through a band of steppe-men who strayed too close.

The melee lasts for no longer than a minute. In the heat of it, you see Obren, dressed in plate and wielding a spear, waving his weapon and belting orders that go unheard in the noise.

It’s so loud. Everything is. Your ears are ringing and ringing. You can feel your heart beating up in your throat. Elya is flushed in the face, wilting under the heat.

@Bacondoneright
Suggestion dump:
Cold-Weak Elya is rare, but possible. It should be possible to convince Cold-Weak Elya of the merits of taking Vedran along.

Chapter 2 spoilers

Elya’s first kill, if it happened in Book 1 Chapter 5, doesn’t get brought up with the capture of Count Balaban. If she killed Drazen in self defense but was warm enough to take Balaban prisoner rather than executing him, she should muse on it. Same if Drazen was her first kill and Balaban her second. If Balaban was her first kill, that should also come up.

Obren is the only introduced RO that has yet to hear the Marshal sing. In this chapter (or even in the next), he should.
