We will win in the end or atleast we will have the potential to win offcourse but the current army is absolutely not gonna cut it because even if you some how get both your cavalry stats to 20 which I don’t think is possible without messing with the game files we will have 1000 light cavalry+ 1000 heavy cavalry so 2000 horseman at most hopefully loyalist nobles or some foreign ally or maybe mercenaries can provide a decent cavalry for our forces in game 2.
I think a map would be very useful, even if it were a bunch of rectangles used to represent the various regions. We sort of have one based on the descriptions. Thanks for pointing out that the Erisians are south of Krorid and unlikely to be the steppe tribes. I did not remember that.
I have finished ITFO yesterday (or, more like, today at two in the morning) for the first time and wanted to share some of my thoughts on it.
Since this was a highly hyped and anticipated game(book), when the public demo came out, I immediately tried it out and, unfortunately, was left sorely disappointed. An extremely edgy MC, flashbacks every other scene, constant melodrama…while the quality of writing was very decent in general, I found it to be very unenjoyable for the aforementioned reasons. In the end, I dropped the demo a bit after the siege.
After that, I kind of forgot about ITFO, but like a week after it finally came out, I was suggested this topic and, driven mostly by idle curiosity, I decided to check what the people here had to say about the game.
Army management, battles that are decided mostly by the choices you make rather than the stats your character has and, what got me really hooked, an opportunity for this self-hating, miserable MC to snap out of it and usurp his sister to become the Bastard King…couple it with the endorsement from Cata (I’m a huge fan of Infinityverse) and I had no choice but to give the Inae Dirriman a second chance.
Once again, I made a male Marshal, reaching the Chapter 4 with him. But not liking the way Marshal personality clashed with the sex I have chosen for him, I decided to restart with the female MC, hoping it would make the experience more enjoyable…And it sure did! While the constant self-loathing and cutting (and inability to do anything about it till the very end) were very frustrating to read, which, I guess, was kind of the point; I feel like FemMarshal fits the story much better than her male counterpart. Plus, I enjoyed MC’s chemistry with Milon much more than with Lada.
Anyway, this post turned out somewhat longer than I had planned for it to be, so I’ll keep the rest short. Ultimately, I enjoyed ITFO a lot, even if it was a bit too much on the nose when it comes to MC’s trauma. Definitely in my top 3 CYOA alongside Infinity series and Fallen Hero. Really excited about the next part, especially considering Marshal’s seemingly improved mental state by the end of the first book.
TLDR FemMarshal best girl.
Long Live the Bastard Queen! (seeing how few people got the achievement for it, hopefully, it won’t be made so that going this route will result in some sort of a “non-standard game over” in the next book).
Even if we don’t get a map, some sort of basic codex would be nice
Yes he changed.I want thank you author very much.

If save Dimas instead Nada.will Milon angry with us ?
Lada and they both dont blame you so far as relationships go there is no reason to not save him at present.
Milon is much more effusively grateful if you prioritize Lada. If you don’t prioritize her, he does acknowledge that she really wasn’t supposed to be on the potential battlefield and that the Marshal made a judgment call based on what the situation was at the time, and doesn’t hold them not immediately saving Lada against them. He also thanks the Marshal for going back to retrieve her after that engagement.
@Sujan_Dhakal If you compliment his shiny armor (which my Marshal feels more comfortable complimenting than his face until after Chapter 9) he completely ignores it. It’s kind of funny.
I love how he tries to thank you, and then you can go, dude, your armor is fucking shiny, move to the lines
I don’t think that was supposed to mean, shiny as in I like it, more like shiny as in your blasting light into my eyeballs
I really wish there was a negative relationship penalty with Milon and Lada if you choose to save Dimas over her. No change if you choose to organise the retreat makes sense, the Marshal chose to prioritise the military over the life of a single noblewoman. But prioritising the life of a single low born, dishonored soldier over the nobility? That really should have a negative attached to it. And a positive relationship boost if you choose to save Lada.
I don’t mind that there isn’t—I’ve handwaved it as the battlefield suddenly going extremely chaotic. Same reason why, I suppose, there’s no penalty with Milon and Lada for punching Mira, as I wrote about up top—after the battle, the whole medical tent was chaotic.

How to become king of Bastard?
Thanks, Snowflower. That’s very helpful.
+1 on doing a major defeat in book 2, the Battle of Bolgia at the end of Sabers of Infinity was one of the biggest highlights of the story IMO. The battlefield was just too big for the MC to meaningfully change even if he was able to save maybe thousands of lives.
That being said in ITFO the MC DOES control basically the entire army so it’ll be hard to justify without taking control off of the player’s hands. Then again I guess jackass vassals or foreign allies being huge dicks.
Then again then again, Rade basically has his major win during the opening when the MC’s brother got everyone killed in his suicide rush and honestly, I feel like Rade’s been shown to be fairly competent overall. It’s just the MC has so many chances to be so much more competent. I like adversity but if you go too far the other way just to make the big bad look scary it’ll be just as big, if not a bigger, problem than just letting the player win everything.
I would also argue Rade would have won the war at the Atiming Rivers, if Nado was not such of an idiot. The fact he also almost manage to catch up with the marshal, despite his army was carrying cannons speak well of Rade.
I am stuck on chapter 9 and I think there is some sort of a bug.
I got stalemate first time but stupidly clicked replay and now I keep losing with 84 and 70 cohesions numbers as 1st and 2nd with literally the same choices as I used during my first try. I mean it, they are the same 100%. I did try several others just in case but I keep getting same 84 and 70 cohesion numbers.
This is very frustrating when I can’t advance while choosing same options that gave stalemate before. Is there some way around it?
In fact I just tried one number of choices (same one) three times in a row without changing anything and I got different 2nd cohesion number each time: 74, 70 and 68. How is this possible? Is this random? At this point it feels that I am getting worse results with every attempt.
Also weird thing I just noticed. During one of the attempts the text said I lost 900 at first and then: “From this phase of the battle, you estimate your losses to be roughly six hundred”. In the same attempt. So it was 900 but then suddely it is actually less? I don’t understand what even is happening at this point and I’m losing all hope to get stalemate again. It’s like the game is just punishing me for retrying ![]()
As does Rade, basically give the mc their own count Nado or even worse on the part of one or more of the vassals, that way it will set back the loyalist cause but also feel like less of a personal defeat for the player.
Even if the mc does teach a strong Elya military command and tactics there may very well be some entitled male vassals who feel they know better than a woman wearing a crown or her dishonored bastard half-brother.
Another thing I noticed is that despite sending riders to intercept the riders on the left flank, I still get these:
“The enemy cavalry on your left continue to tear into your flank. Their momentum may be slowing, but they’re able to target your army from the side. They need to be dealt with.”
And later ab option to send a cavalry to the left, despite that I have already done it supposedly. It’s like this choice wasn’t counted
Also, I intercepted the right charge with cavalry, the stopped and retreated. The text clearly says so as well as that the losses were very light.
And yet the next page has this:
“The first group of rebel cavalry continues to tear into your men. Utilizing the momentum of their charge, they’ve carved deep into your right flank”
I am really starting to think that the more times I replay the more messed up it becomes.
How do you avenge Belos’ sally? I’m never able to stop the first charge with just archers.
