Hundsnächte - Dog Nights (aka Renfield - The Game) 12.3.24

When we chose the age we ran away at do we still look the same age or older? Because I picked 12 and if it is so then the magician was kinda icky. Need clarification if it isnt a spoiler.

Ten years have passed.
No, you do not look the same.

Here is the text from the game

The “to young” does not mean MC still looks like 12, but I will reword that in the next update.

Summary

"You should be 22 now.“ he says.

Yes, you should. You nod. He looks at you, mouth opening and closing. About to say: you don’t look like it, you look wrong? Ethereal? Also a word you had heard often.

The way he looks at you you can see that he is both very very certain that it was drugs… or even is? You probably look sick enough…

But on the other hand you look to young, to pretty, you know that.

You know what effect vampire blood has, it slows the ageing

Shouldn’t it say too young oder in Deutsch zu jung.

Weiter so! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This bit may need reworking.

I’ve just always found it problematic. No matter what the MC can infer about what Dirk knows, until he makes a sound a human can hear (like ringing a doorbell), the MC doesn’t have to answer. Unless Dirk wants to get in trouble for ‘breaking and entering’ without so much as a warrant saying he can, there’s nothing he can do while the MC has this upper hand over him.

That’s not to say this needs to be totally thrown out–it is possible to make responding a matter of player choice, where answering is being more brave about the situation (maybe not smart, but at least a player who doesn’t want to just hide can confront Dirk more quickly by choice), and not answering more cautious. If Dirk does the sensible thing of making a sound that a human can hear to get the cautious MC’s attention, then the rest of the interaction can proceed as it was already written.

That being said, the MC is still behind a locked door, and doesn’t have to open it in the later part of the conversation just because Dirk is threatening them. What is he going to do? Break in? He can’t because he’s an officer of the law, and has neither proof, nor warrant to force his way in. He can stand out there in the wind, and snow for hours for all the MC cares; if he wants to use threats, then he can stay far away from every MC who does not consent to talking with him. It does his case no favors to have resorted to those so quickly, too. Very unprofessional of him.

That’s pretty much the only strong critique I have about this WIP, since everything else flows very naturally otherwise.

Ich vertausch einige Wörter ganz gerne weil ich nich weiß was sie bedeuten  than und then sind auch so n Thema. Dachte echt to heißt zu und too heißt auch, aber stellt sich raus… ne tut es nich.

Wir sind überall! Mein anderes Spiel spielt in Bayern!

sehr schlimme Dinge fasst es seht gut zusammen :joy:

Thanks, I didn’t even think about that! (Also now I can imagine Dirk just cursing MC after they just ignore him lol). And I aim to have a nice and more important coherent and logic story!

I don’t know if that’s quite fair, I think that the MC’s paranoia may be what is making them feel like there is no choice but to answer the door. Because MC knows that Dirk knows that MC can hear what they should not be able to. MC is working against themself, here.

I get both of you, as yes MC is paranoid af, but they should also be perfectly aware that they are in the right if they just ignore it. And waiting for an enemy to throw the first punch is a very valid strategy…

I noticed that the dad uses they/them pronouns for Starling, before the MC meets her (in the car). I assumed the MC was then using they/them pronouns based off of that. But wouldn’t the dad know to use she/her?

I also noticed some continuity issues - my MC didn’t talk to Starling about being a vampire, but then later when clothes shopping with Starling he brought up that he’d been a hound. Also, he didn’t let Dirk inside but then later knew that he was with Argus Interpol.

Looking forward to the seeing more though! I know you said it’s based off Renfield but I’ve never seen(? I think it’s a movie?) that, so the premise of the story is very unique and interesting to me, plus it’s sorta refreshing to see something about vampires that’s not just “they’re hot and I’m a weak little human” lol (not meant to criticize any of the other vampire stuff on here!)

Starling, before meeting MC isnt comfortable with she/her because of her past, Once she gets to know MC (or more importantly notice how similar they are in some matters) she starts to open up, will rewrite that a bit.

Yeah that shouldnt happen, but the code is correct, it should work like intended. Updated it, does it still happen?
And Dirk, no matter if you refuse to let him inside, always gives MC his card which talls he is from Argus Interpol, will rewrite that a bit.

Tbh It is much more based on Let the right one in by John Linqvist (give the swedish film a chance its one of the most beautiful filmes I have seen but not that action focused, its like cosy horror, or, if you read it, check the trigger warnings somewhere online) but much more people know Renfield from Dracula so thats the comparison I used.
And yeah I get what you mean :sob: its getting boring ngl… why give us an interesting sounding world and than just let us be human??

I just ran through from the beginning making all the same choices and yes, it is still brought up by the MC (but they do read the card given by Dirk this time!), here is a screenshot in case that somehow helps

Summary

Thx I will take another look, but after the weekend

Humans aren’t weak by any means; we just don’t know our strength.

Now only talking for IFs, but I am do not want to play as a human in my escapist story while everyone else is a superstrong supernatural like… I want to play as a vampire/werewolf too! Also, really tired about games where there is sth “mysterious” going on with MC, now I am guilty of that too, but it will be resolved soon!
