How the Cards Fall (WIP?)

Hey, everybody c:

I fixed the mistakes you pointed out, and I think I learned how to do randomtest? Thanks for your support, it means a lot to me. I’m still super surprised that anyone bothered to play my game-- I’m terribly shy (even on the internet) so I’m sort of freaking out, haha… ha… ha… ._.

I figured I’d give you a bit more to read before I update next, so expect that, uh, eventually. I’ll probably put out the bugless version first, as soon as I’m sure I’ve got the hang of this testing stuff. (which may or may not be never, cough)

Oh! Also, I have some questions for you guys! To help with the game, and just to satisfy my curiosity.

  1. Does anyone ever talk to Ansleigh? Or is Anson just more buggy? Lolol.
  2. Do you think I should I make a character sheet to help you keep track? Because I’ve barely introduced anyone, and I’ve had some people tell me they’re confused (Irl, not you guys).
  3. There’s a lot to talk about in my verse, and a lot of lore. I could try and fit some of it in if you’d be interested, but I can just as easily skim it to just the basics. Are any of you lore-whores in here? c;
  4. Do you guys want romance? Because I’ve got ideas.

And again, thanks for all of your help. I’m sorry for all the bugs. I’ll work on this as fast as I can, but I’m only a high school student ;D

1.I talk to the gut but i got a bug when i asked what the fur thing was.
2. I would love to see more lore
4.Yes i would love romance

1 yeah I haven’t talked to her yet.
2 character sheet sounds good.
3. You should put more lore for the people who want to read more. I like the world you set this in and I think reading about it would help readers understand it more.
4 yes to romance!

Romance sounds good so far from what I have read.

  1. Ansleigh was buggy too.

  2. Character sheets are good.

  3. Not too much lore. Too much text and background on the world makes my eyes glaze over and I won’t take it in. Just give what’s relevant to the actual gameplay.

  4. Of course we want romance.

Good game, but I don’t exactly want romance… I do want the romance- if you have one, to don’t go overboard with it. I mean really, I’d just like it short And uh, not overly detailed, like simple!

@potato
1: I haven’t tried talking to Ansleigh yet.
2: SoI has a reference sheet for characters. I feel it tends to help things along, especially if you have people popping out and back in over long periods of narrative.
3: I am an immense lore-whore, but I’d personally suggest introducing only the stuff that is necessary to keep the plot rolling into the story itself. The rest can easily fit into a reference sheet.
4: Romance? Absolutely: Go for it!

@potato I know how you feel. But your writin’ is real good, nothin’ ta worry about. Do ya best and what ya like an’ no one will judge ya.

I would most definently play the full version :smiley:

Hello, everyone! While I haven’t been able to afford a computer yet, my sister has very generously let me use hers. She’s a sweetie, amirite?

I can start writing in earnest again. I’m pretty off and on when it comes to free time lately, since this is my Senior year in High School and I have like… a ton of shit to do. Not to mention I work… I love this game, though! So be assured, I’ll update as soon as I can.

Cheerio, bros~

I gotta say I love the demo and can’t wait to see where this goes! I’m very impressed by the level of detail you’ve put into the world and lore just in this small sample of the story.

If I may ask, what sort of accents do you imagine each country having? Like what would a Varathasian accent’s real-world equivalent be?

Glad to hear it!

Thanks you two. I’m super excited, I’ve already written a bit.

@2ton Thank you c;

@Eriedanna YOUR QUESTION! Oh god, it’s so much more complicated than you know… The Peninsula has always been a political hotbed, so everything is ridiculous. I’m going to tell you straight up that the Varathasian accent is a sort of Anglo-Germanic hash up. They have the deeper tones of, say, German, but it is less… harsh? I think a decent equivalent would be Dutch. With all that said, they speak French, like Serresians, albeit an extremely dialectical version. They’re acclimated like that.

The history behind Varathasian’s and their language is suuuuper complicated. So, irl, English is compromised of many different languages-- with all the conquering and whatnot-- and one of the biggest influences, as you probably already know, is French (after the Norman conquest). However, things are sort of different in my verse, in that it was the people who spoke the old English equivalent who invaded the French speaking people.

Okay, okay so… The Varathasian people are orginally a tribe from the Boréales, which is this forest to the North. Like, a thousand or so years ago, they spoke old English (Fyrngemynd!) like most of the people from their area. They migrated down through the Varas mountains with their goddess, conquered the peninsula, etc. Eventually the original peoples of the Peninsula retaliated and pushed them up into the mountains, where they got comfortable, had ‘relations’ with the local tribe that no longer exists, and sort of just… blended in. They still have a lot of their old words, and their accent difference is way more pronounced than American-British English.

…wow I can’t believe I just rambled about Varathasian accents for three paragraphs. I am so sorry .////.

tl;dr

Varathasians = Dutch/ French love child
Serresians = Northern/Proper French (think Parisians)
Meriadians = French with a twist of something that would take another three paragraphs to explain.

Again, I’m sorry, wow. And thanks for you compliments! You makes me blush <3

Always here for encouragement! :stuck_out_tongue: love the demo and can’t wait to see how it transitions to a finished product.

Wow, such an in-depth answer! I love the all the thought you’ve put into your world! Also, it’s nice to have an idea of how a fictional accent sounds, since it’s very hard to imagine an original one so everyone just sounds american in my head.

I want to see the giant library now…
And this demo is awesome.

@2Ton Finished product. Lol. NOT FOR AWHILE… // cries

@Eriedanna Haha, yeah. Whenever I read books, everyone always sounds like me. Even the boys c; I’m glad you weren’t too put off by my rambling-- it was nice to explain.

@Shintaro If I ever finish this game, then you WILL see the library in Dzvirphasi! The next game should take place in Kartibeli. I already have a bit planned out, but, ah… one thing at a time ;D

And update from last time: I’ve been rehauling the game while I write, since I realized how ridiculous everything was. I took a few weeks off for my own sanity, but I’ve picked everything up again and the prologue should be done by this time next week, at least. So yeah <3

@Potato
I and many others will be cheering you on, we can be patient.

Can I have a link I don’t want to scroll to the top to find one?
