Honor Bound: Creme de la Creme 4—Protect a boarding school as a military bodyguard! [OUT NOW]

I can see it rotating now but it still goes back to landscape  I think somehow Vivaldi assumes full screen is always landscape, not sure if it has a full-screen mode in portrait.

Fairly sure the Vivaldi coders assumed that full screen always means landscape. Not sure if anyone can do anything about that, unless the full-screen can be turned off somehow.

Hmm, that’s strange. Unfortunately on itch there are only options between playing embedded in the page or launching in fullscreen - there isn’t an option to change it for different browsers etc. I would prefer the default to be launching in fullscreen in a new tab if it works as intended on most browsers, so it may be a tradeoff and dashingdon will work better for Vivaldi. It may be that not all the pages need to scroll if they’re shorter, but the longer ones will likely need it; the pages are generally more suited for portrait view.

Reminds me, the stats screen on itch isn’t working properly on mobile. You can’t scroll down to see the ones that don’t show on the top of the page.

Is that still the case now and if not, which browser are you using? I enabled scrollbars a couple of hours ago but can take another look if it’s not behaving.

I’ll check in a second, I have to get out of another app on my phone…

Working now, thanks! :sparkling_heart:

Fantastic, thank you for letting me know! I’ll remember to make sure to keep those settings the same next time I update.

Between the two platforms, you’ve probably got a lot to keep a handle on. Always let us know if we can help.

I massively appreciate the assistance! itch and dashingdon need slightly different treatment with having different save systems, so it’s a bit of a juggling act, but once I get more used to it, it should be OK!

Incidentally, I think maybe “You joined them to a cream-colored tent” should be “You went with them to a cream-colored tent”?

Unless there’s glue involved of course, in which case weird but ok

Heh, yes! That’ll be fixed when I next update.

Oh, so there is glue? :smirk:

This. Sometimes I feel that there’s an overemphasis on how many words there are. I liked Noblesse, i didn’t think it was short at all. What needed to be said was said, and the pace was good. Things happened, more things happened, even more things happened, and then it ended.

As opposed to the very LOTR kind of writing, in which it takes a few hundred words to tell everyone exactly what shade of green a leaf is.

I can’t deal with that, I’ve never read LOTR. Even The Hobbit was so… like get to the point already lol.

Oh definitely, I’m very fond of shorter games as well as long ones and am a big shorter-game-defender  and thank you for the kind comments about Noblesse Oblige, it was always intended as a more compact and fast-moving experience so I was happy with how it turned out. Honor Bound is going to be a behemoth compared to my earlier games but it’s nice to be able to take advantage of having more work-time to spend on it and make it a bigger game. I think I’ve mentioned it before, but because I’m working on it more quickly and more constantly, the earlier chapters are fresher in my memory so it’s easier to go back and tweak things.

Such as doing things like this:

I’m a bit of an odd duck in that I think middle-market business suits are actually pretty comfortable. If it’s really poor-quality or badly tailored, then it won’t be, but the modal business suit is pretty comfortable imo. So a smoking jacket or lounge suit option would be delightful.

Fortnightly progress report:

This fortnight I’ve been working on Chapter 7, and have finished off the Royal Affairs expanded epilogue! The epilogue is going off to the copyeditor shortly. I expect it to be released early next year so keep your eyes out for it - I’m really looking forward to people getting to revisit the world and characters of Royal Affairs once again.

I finished the draft of Chapter 7 and did the retroactive crocodile*-related tweaks to earlier chapters once I’d done it. And I’ve done some work on planning Chapter 8 too. That planning is very much a work-in-progress as I’m very tired by this time of year and am very much in need of a break.

Honor Bound current wordcount: 282063
Honor Bound’s fortnight wordcount: 9642
Honor Bound current average playthrough: 69298

If I don’t post again before Christmas, best of luck to everyone over the festive season! It can be a hard time for a lot of reasons, but I hope for the comfort and joy you deserve.

*for transparency I must emphasise the sad lack of crocodiles in the real game

LMAO I read this as “in need of a drink.”

:no_mouth::neutral_face::persevere: Yeah, me too.

Heh, I don’t drink very often but could very much do with some sort of icy-cold mocktail at this point to wake me up!

Chapter 4 is now up and playable for everyone on Dashingdon and itchio! The total demo is now around 173,000 words.

Things you can expect from this chapter:

  • a change of scene as you take a trip to the capital with Korzha
  • partying and politicking with military and non-military types alike
  • arguing, crying, hugging
  • some cameos for those with sharp eyes
  • the nicest restaurants you’ve ever been to

If your previous saves don’t work or you want to get straight to the new bits, you can skip to a chapter of your choice and tailor your playthrough once you’ve answered or randomised the events of the previous games.

If you have feedback of any kind you’d like to share, please post here, on my Tumblr, or comment on the anonymous feedback form.

Enjoy!

Just wanted to say that it was so nice to get back home yesterday after a work day of hell and play a new chapter of this game, particularly because the new chapter featured many scenes with my two favorites, Korzha and Fiore.

I can’t really offer anything constructive at the moment because I’ve got a headache going on. However, what constantly amuses me is that Korzha is absolutely my type on an “I’m pretty sure they will be my No. 1” level but, of all the love interests, continues to be the least impressed by my MC. To be fair, my MC is not pursuing them at the moment because my MC is way too prim to flirt with two people at the same time. That said, I’m looking forward to seeing what makes Korzha tick in a future playthrough, maybe even trying to out-uptight them.

Personal highlight: The small Catarina scene. Even though I enjoyed this little excursion, I’ve grown rather fond of her – and I’m saying this as a person who’s ever had genuinely parental feelings for one character: Grunt from Mass Effect.

As for Fiore, I enjoyed visiting them! Didn’t go for the hug because it didn’t feel right for my character (dutiful/cautious/objective) and, I guess, I liked what you did (in Creme de la Creme, I think?) when it was always specified that the MC is offering the hug only if the desire to hug is mutual. On a meta-level, obviously, I knew that Fiore would accept the hug because they and my MC are close. It’s just that this was such a vulnerable, private moment and it didn’t feel right for my restrained MC to cross that boundary all on their own. Not meant as a criticism, just an interpretation of that scene concerning a particular character build.

Of the kids I much prefer Viola to the others. I don’t really care for Catarina much and Simone seems like a real piece of work.
