Hero of Daria: The RPG (WIP) - CLOSED

What animal companions to choose from would you like to have? (And, sorry for this noob question, but what is the difference between a animal companion and a familiar?)

Animals companions were the companions of Druids and Rangers.
Familiars were companions of Mages.

The options were different for each of them.

In Lost Heir, Sister Geri says that there is no real difference between divine magic and what Wizards use, so I am a little curious as to why Wizards in Daria don’t use healing spells as well. With how dangerous the world seems I would think a healing spell would be one of the first things taught to any magic-user.

(I get its probably just a reference to who gets access to healing magic in DnD and other fantasy settings, but it really doesn’t make sense in DnD either, haha)

Not a big deal (I love the Lost Heir Trilogy and this sounds great too!) just something that kind of irks me whenever it comes up in a fantasy setting. One would think people of all walks of life would want the ability to heal themselves/each other, not just priests.

A familiar (or familiar spirit or familiar animal) is an animal-shaped spirit or minor demon believed to serve a witch or magician as domestic servant, spy and companion, in addition to helping to bewitch enemies or to divine information.

an animal that is kept as a companion; pet. Contemporary definitions for animal companion. noun. a euphemistic term for a pet.

umm I’d like to have a dog-lion hybrid kind of creature, a hawk, a tiger, and whatever other fictional are gonna be included

Because healing comes from the good gods, not from magical power.

Not true in life of a wizard you can specialize in healing magic without a gods help.

But not in LH. Every time you try to use a heal work without being a cleric, the game says the gods doesn’t lend their power.

They both take place in the same universe, so something changed in the game’s universe it seems between the two games. Perhaps the knowledge was just lost over time, to which I say maybe in this game, we could rediscover it?

Or maybe LoW is in another dimension, one where you don’t need the Gods to cast magic healing.

But there are subtle hints here and there that show LoW and LH are in the same universe.

Yes, all choices in Lost Heir are valid. If the Norgan is attached, it might have been heir, or maybe they merged after? If they are apart, then they might have split since? A lot can happen in 100 years.

They will come with a class, but with unlimited multi-classing, you’ll just need to pick a class that gives it to you.

Animal Companions are much more natural. They follow out of loyalty or training. Animal Familiars have a magical connection, sometimes allowing communication or even possession.

LoaW mentions healing and how it is not considered a wizardly skill, but that it can be done. The difference between Arcane and Divine is important. It’s been written into Hero of Daria under the wizard quests.

Short answer: priests are better at it because it’s done easier through divine magic. Wizards can do just about anything, but healing is a difficult branch of magic. If a wizard REALLY wants to heal, most will just serve a priest and do so.

The knowledge of magic and particular spells shifts and changes over time. Some eras have wizards who train with certain spells more than other eras. (Some of it is the changing of the interface more  )

Here one example of how the two games are connected. Remember how you find the cape of Shadows inside the dungeon where you kill Bunta and find the nameless child it a subtle hint to the Cloak of shadows. Maybe even the one the wizard from LoW made even though it’s a cape and the other a cloak they are alike in many ways or even the same. I do hope we could find some of the relics from LoW and LH in HoD. (And top it off we even find it in a dungeon that was meant for for criminals. Who last owner was probably a thief or some unlucky person, who got caught.)

Welp. Just in case if I can’t make weapons and armors like in my childhood dreams, I’ll have to move on to plan B:

Punch the fuck out of everything with my bare hands.

Which reminds me, I need to stop replaying Lords of Aswick and get back to optimizing my magic monk in the Lost Heir trilogy. Still not satisfied with it.

So do you mean to be a monk then or just some guy punching shit?

Why punch feces when you can punch a kraken and watch it run away like a BITCH?

I don’t care what everyone else says, that was THE most satisfying moment in the LH trilogy.

Would you be open to having a poll in which people are only allowed to select a set number of player classes, and the ones most chosen will be put in the game? I feel this would help you out with getting rid of unnecessary classes. You could do this with races too.

I just saw the series Fruit dragons by Alexandra Khitrova and wouldnt it be amazing if you could have one of them as your pet, or even better, if you would look at a bush of berries and would see one of those little guys in there?
