What if the witch loses a hand … or fingers?
Or he/she has an allergy to jewelry and can’t wear rings?
Or has palsy and can not control movement of fingers and/or hand?

Here is what I was thinking. That if they try to pull to much magic it starts with a slight numbness in the hand, but if they keep pushing it can cause pain in the hand. Pushing more than your able will lead to atrophy or arthritis in the hand cause lack of control or preferences in magic. Ultimately it will cause writhing of the arm/hand or combustion of the whole hand. Hmm I was thinking poorer witches would possibly weave or braid theirs but for less of a punch.
I honestly didn’t think of that. I was thinking runes could also play a part so maybe some kind of ritual dance instead with the rune representing which ever element or power they want to call on.
Issues could be that the magic starts at the wrist, and witches use their fingers to weave it into complicated spells. Losing a finger or two would limit how complex their spell weaving could be. If they lose a hand, then they can no longer weave magic. Instead, they can unleash pure bursts of magic.
Alternatively, depending on if they have familiars and what type they have if they are made from magic then they could maybe become a new hand for when the witch needs to cast.
As for the jewellery as @Eiwynn said people can be allergic to jewellery which can be extended to ones not made of metal or have the ring tattooed onto a finger
So I take it to activate a spell they just touch the tattoo they want with their thumb?
Yes I was thinking depending on the complexity of the tattoo would take a toll on the body so they can’t use it multiple times in a row.
