I applaud your dedication. I never really play through the different characters in RPGs beside my main ones. Cos character customization always leaves you unsatisfied sigh
That’s why I love @jeantown 's writing. We make Morgana our own or she could appear to us in different forms that we automatically categorize her into (like a child growing up without a mother, and has this image of her they always see when they try to imagine her as an adult). At least that’s how I felt it was for me.
Btw what is Morgana’s actual description? Was she considered a good-looking woman in the Arthurian legends?? Not that it matters I still love her.
@jeantown This question might be a bit silly/superfluous, but I’ve always wondered…do you have your own Guen characterizations you play as? I thought you might, since if you’re writing this as a hobby, you must enjoy it. Besides, if nothing else, playtesting would be pretty boring if you just clicked on random choices.
Also, someone (sorry, I can’t remember who) mentioned a little while back that the whole Guen/Lancelot lust spell works entirely to Mordred’s advantage (driving a wedge between Arthur and his wife AND his most loyal friend and ally in one fell swoop). And while replaying for the nth time, I noticed that Lancelot says in his sexy dreams of Guenevere, she always has silver eyes. Isn’t that the (rather unique and distinctive) color of Mordred’s eyes? And as he’s been known to infiltrate people’s dreams in the past…
Until I hear otherwise, I totally think he’s behind it all.
@jeantown hasn’t expressly come out and said it yet, but only because it would be too spoilerly. It’s still a definite yes (though the motivations might be different).
There is nothing that advantage Mordred for me. Well, I will still hate Barbie exactly because you has to like Barbie to begin with. No mind washing machine or whatever spell. This is Cordelia doing, probably trying to defamation us and make us looking like a roya whore and destroy Hippies trust in Barbie.
I can never hate Lancelot. I always wanted to step into the stories and take him away from the tragedy (and of course live happily ever after) when little. Sometimes you can’t escape those daydreams.
Unhappy Guen wanted to be good friends with Lancelot, but the lust spell he is under will slowly drive a wedge between them until it can be dispelled, eventually further into the story they will barely communicate anymore and because of it, unhappy Guen will feel like she has no friends anymore seeing as the other nobles and their friendliness as a mask to get something out of her. This will possibly be another drive into becoming independent and very quiet, making appearances for Camelot and spending the rest of her time in her room.
I hope later in the chapters the knightly bodyguards (continuously forgetting their names.) will have undying loyalty towards Guen, more loyalty than to Arthur. Then I can have them run secret errands that will prevent Arthur from committing silly plans. Maybe they could even become aware of Guen’s love affair with Morgana and keep quiet about it, heck even throw anybody else off the trail.
Although I don’t know how much I’ll be able to show it in game, I imagine Lot is guarded but courteous toward Guen. He probably doesn’t see her as being especially relevant to his concerns (which we’ll see more of in part 3). I assume he’s very careful around her, because Gawain will inherit the throne if Arthur doesn’t have any children, and while Lot would not be averse to that happening, he’s not the type to try to make it happen – and he wouldn’t want anyone to accuse him of trying to make trouble for Guen. He’s honorable, in his way, but somewhat paranoid.
And now that I’m thinking of it: if Lot were to find out that Morgana and Guen were romantically and/or sexually involved, he wouldn’t be happy, but I doubt he’d go into some massive rage. As far as he’s concerned, Morgana has fulfilled her primary duty as his wife by having children. He might take a little comfort in thinking that Morgana’s lack of interest in him has more to do with her overall preferences than his own shortcomings. And he might take a little more comfort in thinking that if Guen swings that way, maybe there won’t be a Pendragon heir, and maybe Gawain will get the throne. And while he’d be angry about being cheated on, he’d definitely take it as permission to do some cheating of his own.
Their biggest function is to influence who will and won’t ally with Guen. Other that that, there will be some persuade checks that depend on reputation, some bonuses here and there (e.g. Brave Guen’s army may have higher morale in the Camelot battle), and some window-dressing moments where people comment on or otherwise respond to Guen’s reputation.
That would be an interesting scenario! Of course it’s more than I can incorporate, and I also will never force Guen into any romantic or sexual involvements. But it’s an interesting AU concept.
That, I’ve never totally forgotten. I wish I could have incorporated Kay more into part 1. He does have a major role in Arthur’s prequel, and he can get some screen time in the Michaelsmount branch, depending on Guen’s choices. He’s on the short list of people I might consider adding a romance for once the entire game is finished.
Shhh, don’t tell Elfwine! He’s convinced that’s the theme of the entire game!
But yes, my hope is that “good” actions will sometimes meet with success, and sometimes with failure, and the same will go for “evil” actions. It may take a long time for the consequences of some actions to play out fully, though. And I agree that either way, it could make for good character development – failures either lead Guen to change her attitude/worldview, or to renew her commitment to it in spite of possible negative consequences.
Authors aren’t supposed to read fanfic of their own works, but I would read the hell out of that and not tell anyone.
If he could talk, he’d refer to humans as “primates.”
I am now picturing DA2 Flemeth with a long, silver-white beard.
@Rina Thanks for your post! I’m very glad that you’re enjoying the game!
I think it should be able to go that way… Guen will be able to talk with Lancelot before talking with Arthur at the end of the game, and I may even be able to work it so that Guen and Lancelot can tell Arthur together if they want to. But Guen will also be able to tell Arthur without Lance knowing ahead of time, and whatever her relationship with Lance, she’ll be able to tell Arthur about the kiss.
Galahad is far in the future (won’t appear until part 5), but I expect that will be possible, especially if Guen has a good relationship with Elaine.
That character will show up early in part 3, and I can’t wait to write those parts! (I may even write another prequel from that character’s perspective.)
Thank you!!!
I’ve said before that I doubt Guenevere would exist if it weren’t for Bioware.
That’s one of the strengths of a text-only story… the reader is free to imagine characters however they like!
There isn’t much physical description in the medieval Arthurian stuff. Most women there are either young and unspecifically beautiful or scary old hags.
Not really… each time I do a playtest, I try to come up with a different concept. Sometimes I try to play as a Guen that someone wrote about here on the forum. I don’t really have any favorites (though I often feel sad after evil/mean playthroughs and have to do a good one to make myself feel better). I’m not sure what it is about my brain that lets me get emotionally invested in a story without needing to have any particular idea of what the protagonist is like.
Why yes; yes it is.
Weren’t you the one desperately asking for any way to break Barbie and Hippie up? Wouldn’t Barbie kissing Guen, and Guen telling Arthur about it, be a great way to put a damper on that friendship? I seem to recall you requesting something along those lines. More than once.
No, no forgot my terrible writing there. I tried to explain that I don’t believe that Mordred gained from sending the sexy silvery dreams to Barbie or creating a lust spell targeting both Guen and Lance. For me Cordelia has more sense. Of course, I am manipulating everyone else to help Mordred and Poison queen future. Not metagaming here. Because my Guen has been dreaming about him all her life. And she really believe someday she will find him.

Couldn’t you include the potion but give Guen the ability to resist it if she chooses or succumb to the force of the spell?
2)a I would love to see Kay as an RO.
b) Can you tell who else is on the short list in additon to Kay and Bretta?
No if she had added that all the chat could’ve exploded by the collective hype, released… Seriously, I want this like if this was an Elder scrolls or a Dragon age game… same level of hype. Similar quality too, I hope someday people of Bioware read jean work probably she could receive a job proposal.
@Nathan_Faxon HAHAHAA I had no idea that was in the game!!! I did romance Morrigan once, but I did not take her to meet Isabela. So Flemeth’s beard is canon. Wow.
Well, I mean, theoretically I could do anything, but… adding a subplot where Guen and Lot drink a lust potion would be a huge deviation from my plan (and from tradition), and would be very difficult to cram in in a way that would make sense… Besides, it doubles the Lancelot-being-affected-by-a-lust-potion plot, which is part of the long term main plot, and would therefore overshadow it – it would seem like a weird copycat move on the villains’ part. So I think it’s best left to our AU imagination.
Good to know… no promises; it’s just something I’ve kicked around. But I’d have to find a way to work him into part 1 somehow. Admittedly, that would be much easier to implement that a Lot-lusting-after-Guen subplot!
eeeeeeeehhhh I should probably resist the temptation to do that, because I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up. (sorry ) Those decisions won’t get made for a very long time.
As @Fallaner says, he’s Elaine and Lancelot’s son, and he will play a major role in the climax of the whole story. There may even be a grail involved.
I think the idea is that if an author reads a fic of their own work, they could be accused of stealing the ficwriter’s ideas.
bwahahahahahahaaa At the rate I’m going we’ll all be lucky if I can finish the second half of 2 by the end of 2016. Certainly not any time soon. But when I do, I’ll change the title of the thread so it will be super obvious.
As much as I would love to work for Bioware in theory, I know I wouldn’t be able to handle the stress and deadlines.
