Guenevere (WIP)

@OtherGrimm Assistance is most welcome. :slight_smile: Yeah, NA is definitely my secondary project now – I keep saying that NA is the thing I’m writing for myself, and Guenevere is the thing I’m writing for everyone else – but I still keep writing little bits of NA, and I’ll just keep doing that until… I don’t know, forever, I guess. If anything I write ever achieves engraved pencil status, I’ll know I’ve succeeded. :slight_smile:

But yeah, a duplication spell would be awfully nice. I forget who it was that supposedly said ā€œI hate writing, but I love having written.ā€ I don’t hate writing, but it’s hard (and often lonely) work with a big emotional payoff when it’s finished, and a lot of frustration and unfulfilled longing when it’s not. Like a lot of writers, I write the things I (desperately) want to read, and if I could wave a magic wand and have them already be written – or copy myself to get it done faster – you bet I’d do it in a heartbeat!

@Finian I’m so glad to hear that! Having creative projects is sooo important. Let me know if you have a DeviantArt page; I’d love to watch!

I currently don’t have a DeviantArt page because my art would get stolen from there all the time and I just finally took the whole page down :frowning:. Im doing most of my work and posting it on tumblr currently because its a much easier system, but I’m definitely considering making a DeviantArt again!

There was something in the Hitchhiker’s Guide about that I think, about some poet or what not, who time travelled and copied his own texts and got rich, but because he did that, he never had to suffer as a starving artist and none of the things that had happened for him to write those poems in the first place ever took place, and thus some people claimed his work to be less authentic. But yeah, magic hand wave for me also please. =) Should have a whole team standing by and just dictate it. By the poolside.

@Finian Yikes; that sounds really, really frustrating. ): What’s your tumblr?

@MutonElite hahaha, that sounds wonderful! And maybe the time-travelling author could just keep repeating the loop… so we could wake up each day and think, ā€œI wonder what I wrote with this lifetime?ā€ and then go into the future and get it, and have the joy of reading it… and then spend the rest of our lives writing something else for us to pick up the next day, and then the next… sign me up. :slight_smile:

Now I wonder what would happen if, instead of infinite monkeys, you had infinite doppelgangers (as in how that’s used in this game) of Shakespeare with infinite typewriters.

@Elfwine One word: Chaos

@GloriaRose But would it be the creative and inspiring kind, or the kind that ensures none of them writes anything, even the ones who want to write?

@Elfwine i think in the end one doppelganger would like to chill instead of just working in creativity and thus the mystery is will the you in that moment make a time machin to kill the next you in line? Because repeating always gets the record boken.
And one does tire, one day such is the life of off immortals.

@jeantown Quick question, earlier in the forum you said one of the moments where we have a chance to change Arthur’s personality was after we’re reunited we can scold him for going after the wrong Guen, I think you said we could tell him to be more careful. How big of an impact do you think we’ll make?

I think my Guen would be upset with Arthur for going after the wrong version of her since they all have different personalities and it’s honestly kind of insulting since they’ve been married for so long. She’d want him to understand the severity of that and have him feel truly remorseful, but at least my original version of Guen (I have several different specific Guens I play as) would not necessarily want to change who he is as a person. Is there an option for that or will we have to chose between scolding him or just letting the matter go (or holding a secret grudge to use as ammo later etc etc)

seriously? did I just get flagged for asking about how the game is progressing along?

Yep. On this site, it’s bad form to ask when the next update will happen.

Yeah, and censoring is totally not a overreacting. I guess the comment was too dangerous to be viewed by the masses…

I’ve asked questions like this several times before on the forum and I’ve always been given an answer. Can’t really see what the big deal is, but I guess if it offends you I’ll stop asking about updates.

i think better form would be to ask how the work is progresing, asking date is asking like exact date and it cant get annoing quickly. however from my experience authors dont have this kind of problems with asking, how is the work going

@Finian

did you consider putting your name in the corner of your art ? tastefully done it protects your works from being stolen, while not being harmfull to the art itself.
Art has the advantage of the fact that, unlike writen work, which is much easier to steal,the many who would steal credit simply dont know how to remove the name of author from the picture, still there will be few who are capable,

but my experience is , that the more experienced or skilled person is,the less malicious or childish etc they are,atleast about these things,Yes they cant get angry and they can really do harm,but mostly they dont do these stupid things like stealing others work.and if they do they most often have reason for it.

splitted post in two parts, since i know that i have tendency to ramble

Putting your name on art doesn’t prevent it from being stolen. Some thieves just go along with it and sell it alongside the artist’s signature. Plenty of them know how to blur out a name or colour pick nearby colours to obscure the signature.

Even if you layer the entire image with watermarks (given enough patience) all that can still be removed.

@jeantown its veilfires.tumblr.com and my art can be found under the art tag in my description. Most of it really isn’t good because I’ve been out of practice for years but whatcha gonna do.

@CaesarCzech I had a watermark on my old works but people actually sent some really mean messages about it asking why it was necessary. Also, this might be vain or whatever, but I really don’t like putting watermarks right in the middle of the work because its annoying. However, if you put it anywhere else people can just crop it out so its frustrating either way

@Owlet You’re totally right and no matter what you do, people can edit the watermark. I’ve never really considered selling my work so its not like people are making profits where I am not but its just irritating. I never post any of my really good work because I don’t want it stolen :frowning:

To make another obvious observation:

Neither watermarks nor a signature prevents anyone from selling a work of art (people sell works of art that they didn’t create all the time, after all) – it just makes it ā€œeasierā€ to take the sellers to court and win. Of course, taking someone to court (who may be in a different country!) is a very non-trivial undertaking, so… What’s the point? :frowning:

mostly I just get very frustrated and cry a little bit

@Elfwine Now we’re almost getting into Borges’ library territory… XD I’d say that someone(s) would have to be in charge of sorting out the really great stuff from the Shakespeare-on-bad-day stuff, but honestly I’d rather read Shakespeare-on-a-bad-day than just about anyone else on a good one, so maybe it wouldn’t matter.

@GloriaRose Yes, I suppose the author-with-a-time-machine model would have to fail eventually. But how lovely would it be to say, okay, I’ve spent 300 lifetimes writing everything I really wanted to read, and now this is going to be my last one, like a retirement – even though I personally didn’t technically write any of that stuff…

(disclaimer: this was a really long day of work and I’m kind of losing it :slight_smile: )

@alliebee Oh, right, that game I’m working on… :stuck_out_tongue: That’s a great question. I do plan to include a range of options there, some of which will ā€œhardenā€ Arthur and some of which won’t. It should be possible to express some displeasure without hardening, though (as in real life) it may not be immediately obvious which dialogue options will get what kind of reaction. I also imagine the hardening being an invisible numerical stat. Right now I have three specific things in mind that will each add one point to Arthur’s hardness (teehee), and I’m sure there will be more. So the way I imagine implementing it in the future is with hardness checks (dear goddess teehee) in different situations. If Arthur has only a hardness of 1, you may not notice much difference, but 3 or higher could maybe cause him to make some decisions differently, etc.

Okay, I should really call it something other than ā€œhardness,ā€ or I am going to be giggling like a madwoman every time I write a check for that stat.

@Viktor_Akse (and sort of @Ramidel) Yeah, it really is in the forum guidelines that you’re not supposed to ask authors when updates/releases will happen. I personally don’t mind it that much, but that’s probably because I don’t get asked very often due to the don’t-ask rule – if people asked me every day, it could get annoying, especially if I had just answered the question five posts ago. (But you’re fine; I’m not annoyed with you, I promise :slight_smile: ) Out of respect for the other forum authors and the rules, I tend to give somewhat vague answers when asked… but right now I can be 100% honest when I say I have no idea. Not soon, anyway. Illness and scope-creep really nailed me from last July to December (also there may have been some Dragon Age in there somewhere). I am working on it steadily. I post monthly progress reports on my tumblr, so you can always go there to see where I am with things.

@CaesarCzech @Owlet @mreed @Finian It’s a miserable no-win situation. I have some favorite artists that I watch on DeviantArt, and every now and then I see their art go by somewhere else with no acknowledgement (and watermarks/signatures removed), and it makes me so angry.

@Finian I peeked. :slight_smile: :slight_smile: yesssss please keep drawing. :slight_smile:
