February 2026 Writer Support Thread

Personally, I think a choice every page can be a bit much, as a reader. Not necessarily, but it can be. But every 2-4 pages is a sweet spot, I think.

Well, I think I only posted something in this thread for the 15th. I guess as a bit of an update for what’s going on with me, I’ve been getting some writing in, planning for a potential extra project, and Hosted Games returned the editor’s copy for me, and we have a tentative release date now.

That means I’m going to review the editor’s copies to approve adjustments and review their notes for the other recommendations. I’ll need to pull back on writing until I finish reviewing everything from the editor and returning my final copy.

Now, for the advice I’m looking for: when should I reduce the number of available chapters in my public demo? Right now, the whole thing is available with all of its flaws. When should I pull back how much is available?

Maybe once the date is set, depending when the tentative date is?

Also, congratulations on the milestone - hope the revisions go great!

In today’s news, I’m thinking of spilling coffee on a photocopier paper so that I can make UI elements of it.

So now? I guess I can do it before it goes up on Steam.

Thank you very much, I appreciate that. When I was given the date, it was a crazy feeling.

do it!!! i love mixed media type stuff like this so much. some of my fav digital art (posters, flyers, etc.) use physical materials that have been scanned to digitize them. and you get such good TEXTURE!

Thanks for all the comments on page_break. I think the choices I’ve added so far aren’t inconsequential, but once I’ve finished sorting through chapters 1 to 3 and finish chapter 4, I’ll update the demo to see if I was successful and make changes if not.

Scarlet Sorceress is done. Well… it has been done for a year, but I’ve finished all the content updates I’ve always wanted to add. I still need to think of what happens with the game, although I suppose I could sit on it a little longer. Interestingly, unlike my short jam VNs, it is still reliably getting a steady number of views and plays per day even after update season.

After one and a half years, I’ve finally dug out Skies Over Steelthorne to work on again. I’m not sure where this goes if I finish it. If I can’t beat the Spring Thing deadline, I’ll probably just collect the Introcomp prize money and figure out where the game goes later.

Okay so my progress on Talon Saga is going well so far. Still stuck at the intermission before chapter two because I’ve been adding new features. But the train’s still moving.

So far, I think I’ve made the same mistake I made with Hunter Sky. I started the game as a gender-locked male then had a change of heart and added a female option. But this time is different.

I went back and changed the scenes and dialogues to match the gender so it doesn’t read weird for the female Talons.

As for Velocity :face_exhaling:the wait for release is still on. It seems like I have my work cut out for me with revisions and all lol. I guess that’s what I get for trying to experiment with too many stuff.

If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take your games to be published?

I made this theme song from scratch for the main antagonist of Talon Saga. Does this theme sound villainous enough to fit a dark character? What are your thoughts.

While making it I tried to give it a dangerous edge while keeping a mysterious vibe. Here’s the link to Pallius’s Theme :backhand_index_pointing_down::

I just released Chapter 2 of my WIP, which was one of my major goals of February.

The “revision” part of the plan ended up doubling the chapter size, and nearly cost me my sanity.
I would like to express my profound respect for every published author on this forum.

Do we still do feedback exchange events here? I’d love to participate.

This is random, but I adore your profile picture! (Also update, yay. I also like your game.)

Can anyone recommend a decent program they use to keep track of characters? I’ve started to use Google Sheets to keep track of characters, but I’m wondering if there is a better option?

I’m curious what other writers use?

I’m using Novelist, but that’s iOS only. (Although it does have a web version too, I guess.)

…no, wait, it is on Android too. I got it confused with another app. (I blame the site being too confusing.)

I use Obsidian, specifically the metadata, because I can make tables for different groups, places, etc.

I’m gonna check that out! Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve just been using google docs for a while now.
