Kind of dr Jekyll and mr Hyde situation??? ![]()
If Ace really comes back, I don’t know how to deal with it. I have to give back their body and Mortum seems to be on Ace’s side rather than me.
And worse, if there was a history with Ortega.
the opposite instead of two personalities in one body is one personality in two, and paranoid enough to decide that the best course of action is to kill the other first
In the ending where Mortum sees the puppet awaken, she might think that MC lied to her about the body being completely empty ![]()
I’m…down for that.![]()
![]()
I’m a messy bitch
by the way how to get stuck in the puppet’s body? I always end up waking up in Mc’s one
You need to be comfortable as the Puppet. Pick every choice that is about enjoying being them and, if there aren’t any, evade the ones where you treat it like a tool.
Oh that’s makes sense, I was picking the opposite choices lol
That’s gonna be the most toxic romance if ever (or at least have the most toxic foundation). I’d love that ![]()
I don’t know if MC would able romance HB if they were in MC’s body
that’s, uh, gross ![]()
Ace doesn’t act like us though. Mortum can already tell, even in just the final scene with Ace waking up, that it’s not MC in there.
But yeah. Ace has memories and knows who Charge is. We gotta make sure they don’t blab ![]()
But hey! Sidestep finally learns to love themself /s
I…

I did not see this coming
Edit: Alright, real talk…Is it just me or has the tactician trait become a lot more useful than the fighter trait in retribution?
That one definitely crossed my mind too.
Really, could you elaborate in what way? I felt like fighter had the advantage, esp if you’re going for an Argentmance
It would be more like all three having to get to know each other. Because nobody interacted with each other before.
I would say they are both about the same, it really depends on what kind of armour you have.
I mean yeah it can sometimes be useful in finishing opponents but consider this:
-Allows you to rescue the civillians at marconi’s/carter’s mansion without losing infamy
-Tactician allows you to sucker punch blaze as thief
-Allows you to avoid incoming damage when fighting blaze
-Allows you to avoid getting hg clue when in certain paths of robbing the casino
-Allows you to realise jake is setting up a trap when fighting him
-Allows you(if not high daring and have not released the catastrofiend) to release it with mortum and potentially get one of the few telepathic stat boosts in the game
-Allows you to spot sentinel when going out the front door of HG club
-Allows you to fully trap steel in an elevator when fighing him as puppet(instead of the half-trapped variable of fighter that requires additional 40 or 45 precognition to not get caught by ortega) and escape
I’ve been avoiding this thread and doing most of my flailing/speculation elsewhere for fear of spoilers (here, for anyone else who likes popcorning at new players), but since it seems unlikely the game will run out of secrets any time soon, I felt I had to say something to express my appreciation here. I’ve been playing for the past week and counting and, at risk of sounding hyperbolic, it’s surpassed my wildest expectations.
I was already impressed by how much playthroughs of Rebirth could vary; the sheer amount of branching, optional scenes/reveals, and attention to detail in Retribution is mind-blowing (and leaves me awed and slightly terrified by the idea of building two more games on top). I’m on my fourth playthrough and still tripping over new major reveals and plot developments with each one. I’m also surprised and delighted by how smoothly each playthrough so far has created a story that, despite my knowing otherwise, feels tailor-made for the specific character I’m playing. Since I’m one of those roleplayer types who develops detailed mental images of my characters and decides everything by “what would they do?”, it’s always kind of a magical experience when my unreasonably-specific headcanon doesn’t bump up against the limitations of the medium. I love the experience of “interactive fiction as collaborative storytelling”, and Retribution has nailed it so far.(no I don’t have too many MCs, shush)
Oh, and as someone who played their first MC as questioning their gender, discovering how beautifully that element integrated into the story (if you chose to pursue it) felt almost like a gift to me personally. (I also had not expected the text to go anywhere near as hard as it does on the whole “lab-grown undercover agent as autistic metaphor” thing—I’d figured that was just me bringing personal context to my reading!—but I’m not complaining about that either.)
Most of all, I love all the new insight you can get into the characters, and how it completely recontextualizes some of their behavior—especially if you’ve been viewing them through the lens of our favorite unreliable narrator.
The MC’s incredibly idiosyncratic PoV, and the ways it’s used to hide things in plain sight in the narrative, is one of my favorite parts of Fallen Hero's storytelling, so I was happy to see it on full display here.
Still not done, and still excited to see what else I have yet to discover!
By the way, what’s the best place to report minor bugs and/or typos? Should I send those to the game’s support email, just post them in a reply to this thread, or something else?
