Welcome to Fallen Hero Izzily, I’ve been playing this game since it came out and I know I am missing a lot of content due to my way of playing and minmaxing.
Hi people!
I’ve been obsessed with Fallen Hero for the past several weeks now, replaying it time and time again (I’m kinda late to the party, I know
). I still haven’t finished my last (at least for now) planned playthrough, but I thought why not finally join the discussion, since the topic of heartbreak scars came up, which is one of my favourite aspects of the game.
I have five Sidesteps, one for each RO (and coincidentally, for each scar (and motivation)). My most evil Sidestep is friendless (I agree with @DarthRevantheGreat and @Raptorofwar that this scar fits ruthless Sidestep perfectly). He can’t connect and build relationships with people anymore, so he doesn’t feel bad about killing and using them.
My least evil Sidestep - a reluctant and regretful villain, is an outsider. He was suicidal at first, but then I learned that this scar was discontinued in book 2, so I had to change it, and I still need to adjust this playthrough a little to fit the new scar better.
I gave revenge scar to my sort of conflicted Sidestep. She has a lot of anger issues (she also has anger as a motivation), but she doesn’t want to hurt innocent people, only the ones who deserve it. So for now she tries to use her negative emotions for something less destructive, and that’s why she fights heroes to train them to be better.
My pragmatic, logical and very goal-oriented Sidestep has the puppetmaster scar, which I think works very well with such character.
As for hunger scar, it will be in my next playthrough - a greedy and jealous Sidestep who, just like @notapretzel’s Sidestep, is an art thief.
Perhaps I will give all of them additional suicidal scar, since I love angst.
I didn’t even know it was possible to combine suicidal with other scars until recently, that’s cool.
I didn’t help at all in determining which scar is the most popular, lol. I love them all because of how much they add to the character.
@maximo_caseres This also sounds like a great idea for a friendless character, instead of an evil and ruthless one; it’s very touching how they were able to reconnect with their friends. ![]()
That’s so wholesome and a beautiful arc tbh.
@Nemureru_Mori welcome!
We share very similar Sidesteps. My hero hunter also wants to make the hero better, he’s so full of anger and don’t really know how to channel it so that’s the best route for him. My art thief is a smug Lupin sort who has decided to stop being a victim and enjoy life to the fullest, she doesn’t want to hurt anyone though. Her love interest is Daniel and I just love that her first thoughts when going to Daniel condo for the first time is to steal his art collection
I just love it.
My puppet master Step is very pragmatic too, a mob boss streetwise tactician who wants to destroy the farm and take over Los Diablos.
I like an unexpected angle of such a character - you would expect revenge and anger obsessed person to be evil and ruthless, but surprise surprise, they’re not!
Who is your hero hunter romancing? Mine is with Argent, since they fall in love on the battlefield, so to speak.
I’m so excited about my upcoming art thief playthrough! Unlike your Sidestep, mine will be evil though. His RO will be Mortum - I think it works with the hunger scar, because this character will treat both bodies like their own, like one is not enough for him.
Haha, this is great!
Daniel will be my art thief’s rival, since he’s jealous of everything he has (including his art collection, lol).
My puppet master Step is an anarchist, he wants to overthrow the system. His motivation is showing the world the truth, and although he’s not very evil, his methods are rather ruthless. The end justifies the means and everything.
And my most evil Step is a mob boss streetwise tactician as well, but with a friendless scar.
Argent for the same reason while also crushing on Chen.
I love this, I need to create a tech thief and go this route.
My anarchist has the outsider+sui scar. They’re so disconnected from everything and just want to expose the truth and they pretend not to care about anything else. At first I tried to open as many gate as possible (but man is it hard, hunger for example is ‘easier’ in comparison) because I wanted a dark phoenix ending for them. But the more I played with them the more I want them to heal and have their hea with Ortega. At the end of retribution they are still at the “it’s complicated” stage and haven’t even kissed Ortega, who is also their rival, so it’s all about the angst
.
Lol, Chen is my hero hunter’s rival for a couple of reasons, starting from the fact that his disapproval of her reminded her of the people from The Farm (and thus triggering her anger), and also because she thinks Chen is failing as a Marshal, because of how fractured The Rangers are appear to be, so it’s all his fault. Ortega was better (in her opinion). ![]()
This sounds very nice: Mortum + tech thief = true love. ![]()
I must confess, I don’t fully understand what any of this means. My goodness, I didn’t know these gates affect anything, let alone endings… This game will drive me crazy with its many variations of everything (said affectionately, I’m here for it!
)
After a quick research, I think I understand what you mean; there were some cool options in my latest playthrough which I haven’t seen before (notably at the Casino), that I thought were there because of a puppet master scar, and these options change “gate” variable in the code… My mind is blown, I need to rethink everything! ![]()
Angst is always good, I say.
I’ve never romanced my rival, seems like a missed opportunity, tbh.
When I first started reading FH I didn’t like Chen, like at all. But as I started exploring all the paths and spending more time with his character and understanding how HB impacted him I did a 180, and now he’s one of my favourite characters. None of my mcs were close to Chen pre heartbreak, some still aren’t but for example he’s my anarchist mc confidante and i love seeing how close they’ve become. Chen goes from not trusting Step and their telepathy spoiler for an ending of b2 to asking Step to go inside their mind, and you see bits of Chen’s life and it’s just such a beautiful scene and bonding experience for them and after that scene if Chen knows you’re the villain and confess of knowing the dialogue it’s just so beautiful. Or if you decide to go with a puppestuck that rescues step’s body and is arrested, Chen is like “I already let Step down once is not happening again”.
I’m not even kidding when I say FH has made me weep multiple times.
I know this game is amazing. There are still so many things I probably haven’t discovered and events I still need to decide to make canon or not, I can’t wait to prep my routes for the next book.
Highly recommend this.
I like this consensus that puppetmaster Steps are pragmatical, my main Step is exactly like that, being an anarchist trying to take down the farm as revenge and using the rangers as his pieces on this chessboard, increasing their doubts while avoiding their suspicions.
He trains Danny and makes him question why he is kept in the dark so much, manipulates Argent’s mind so she likes him and builds a good respect as Saboteur, befriended and manipulated Steel to make him forget his suspicions but still has the highest doubt as well as being dethreaded and Ortega wonders wether she’s doing the right thing since that night at the museum where I spoke of taking down their bosses.
And as a bonus Eden managed to go to Mortum’s lab despite just manipulating her, thanks in no small part for sleeping with them.
He has absolutely no qualms about using them, or about killing, but he still keeps his telepathy hidden and the murders secret so everything falls in place.
This chessboard is moving into the middle game.
I love the hunger scar, but instead of using it with a simple thief Sidestep I like it on an arrogant Mob Boss, who was always destined for greatness and to rise above them all. Los Diablos is where Sidestep started after all, and it is his for the taking. And I love hunger because even out of character it’s one of the three scars you can choose if you minmax your stats, it’s for those players who want to see it all, who want to have it all, for those. That want. To win.
man, i love reading how the general consensus is that Sidesteps with the puppetmaster scar are pragmatists. Then there is my main Sidestep with that same scar, a really emotional softie that can’t bring herself to kill anyone, even though she knows it would make easier being an anarchist.
I mean, my step hasn’t openly killed anyone and his plan for taking down the government is destroying their reputation, which I’d say going into book 3 is doing great since my political influence is at 70% the rangers all have massive doubt as I said before, and the only thing I had to sacrifice is that I don’t have Blaze as an ally, but oh well, I’ve already spent a lot of time beating my head against the wall (of code) to piece together this build.
Funnily enough, my friendless pragmatic ruthless Sidestep did start as Puppetmaster.
i meant to say that she sometimes doesn’t make the best choices for her plans, like saving the civilians instead of going for Carter, making Blaze her ally instead of putting Deveraux out of comission (i really hope this pays off on book 3), rejecting Hollow Ground’s offer of working with her, or telling Ortega that she is the villain. At least she increased by a lot the doubts of Daniel and Ortega, and somehow still got 72% of political influence.
Oh, yeah you fucked up saving the civilians (telling steel it wasn’t you is enough for him to believe you) but having Blaze as an ally might turn out being better than the alternative (my step didn’t even take the politician down, he sent a threat to Álvarez) and never confess to Ortega, she can’t handle the truth unlike Steel and Argent. On the other hand, good job planting doubts and increasing your influence, it sounds like you’ll have a very interesting story in book 3.
How do we make Argent our Nemesis?
You mean true nemesis that wants to kill you or friendly nemesis that wants to fight you?
For the latter, fight her physically in the sewers during rebirth, shut up and focus on the fight (if you have over 70 daring as a fighter and either speed or strength you even win) and basically keep fighting fair with her during Retribution.
If you want her to hate your guts though, I can only really think of two ways.
First, you need the telepathy upgrade, to not be a known killer, and this will expose your telepathy. Basically you have to use your telepathy on the bridge, control the crowd to attack her and try to blackmail her into giving up. Because you haven’t killed before she thinks you don’t have the guts, and will go after you without caring about the civilians, but if you choose to put them beneath you and her, she will end up killing someone, and then you’ll end up with a very damaged armor and probably faint.
The other path is stealing the regenerator from her at the auction.
To be specific, to trigger the Nemesis tag you need to think about her during training with your puppet in book 1. In book 2, it’s very straightforward.
If you don’t want your telepathy to be revealed or you don’t have the telepathy upgrade, you can also take a hostage in the bridge while not being a known killer, and when Argent thinks you don’t have the guts to kill the civilian just choose to kill her, that should do the trick.
Wait really? Never actually did that before, I like the psychological damage that is having HER kill the civilian, it’s so much more beautiful. Sure after that you end severely injured and with like 25% armor damage, but the trauma is worth it.
I know how you feel, if it weren’t for the fact that my evil Sidestep doesn’t have the telepathy upgrade nor does she want to fight “dirty” against Argent, she would have probably done that just to fuck with her.
Thank you so much! Does she remain your Nemesis in code if you reveal yourself and romancing her?
