I’ll admit to being one of the people trying to enjoy Seraphinite’s demo but you know what? After trying to access it a few times, I decided to do something else, there are other things I can do while the kinks get worked out. Being negative won’t fix anything and only makes things more difficult for everyone in the long run. I’m sure anyone who has worked customer service can understand where I’m coming from.
It’s an absolute shame that people are responding so negatively to issues that require patience. For a site that encourages creativity, something that requires forbearance on both sides (writers and readers), people can be…overly aggressive in displaying their restlessness and forget about using tact.
I wish I had the skills to offer dashindon to make his life a little easier but I don’t, so all I can do instead is be patient and be thankful that I have this site to play around in when I want to experience worlds that are fantastic and allow me to ignore reality for a bit.
Hello all. There was some maintenance on the server the site is hosted on yesterday and today. I did get a notice from the provider and I should have posted here that there would be intermittent issues.
I received quite a few donations to the server cost and I am very grateful for each and every one helping in supporting the site. Right now the site is down because I am having it upgraded (basically tripling the resources) thanks to the donations. I can’t say when will have time to upgrade the scripts and plugins as well but it’s on my shortlist.
The site will be back up shortly with hopefully much better service. Thank you.
Same here man. I was really looking forward to the release of the demo. But seeing as how it’s overwhelmed at the moment… I might wait for a few days. People should really learn to be patient. I mean this site probably only has one or two people who work on it voluntarily. Please people we shouldn’t feel entitled to use it. It’s not just our website alone to use, but rather its everybody’s. And if its overwhelmed we need to back off and give it some space.
You provide a great service and the forum is better with your help. Have a link to your kofi I can use? I usually go on the website for it, but I can’t exactly do that right now.
These are all things that will be brought up to Staff – Ultimately, they will be the decision makers here, and I imagine the staff will want to work with @dashingdon and @CJW with how best to handle the awareness thing.

In the meantime, perhaps (if these types of posts occur later) pointing the community member to this thread would help?
The upgrade is complete and the site is back up. Unfortunately it is running oddly slow. The CPU usage and memory are very low (average of 3%) so I don’t see how it could be a resource issue at all. I added IPv6 support, which should give the site better availability, but that hasn’t helped.
I’ll set aside some time this afternoon to attempt to find the issue and speak with customer support if necessary.
Can I just say? I was extremely annoyed when I saw some of the more insensitive/entitiled comments, but seeing all the donations that have flooded Don’s ko-fi the past few hours really warms my heart!
I’m broke atm :’) but give me a sec and I’ll see what I can scrounge up from between my car seats Don, this community really owes you a lot.
Pretty basic PHP, JS, and a simple MariaDB. There really isn’t much to it and the load is light (as CS is all browser) so this connection/load issue is very frustrating.
I could not find a problem with the server configuration, networking setup, or resources. I’ve put in a ticket to technical support and if it isn’t all sorted out within the next few hours then I will move it to a different service.
Ah, that explains a lot. I did notice some slower loading times when I was playing a demo but it didn’t matter much to me.
It’s not the sort of thing to raise havoc for.
To be honest I didn’t know Dashingdon was an actual person, I certainly didn’t know he’s been helping out for years and free of charge. That guy (or person) gets my respect and gratitude.
I’ve been a lurker for years and have yet to create my own story but it has been wonderful to read all the creations from other authors. I think Dashingdon has found a way for many creative people to get their stories released into the world and that makes me very happy.
I just donated. I used to pay about $100 a year for my own server but have recently moved my WIPs to DashingDon. Honestly I would pay for a premium-style membership if one were offered. I have no idea how this site is still up without donations. It has really been a godsend. Any authors with recurring royalties who use the service should be donating if at all possible.
