I was just popping in to ask something similar, about archiving and preserving everything. wouldn’t have a clue how to use web crawlers and stuff to do it lmao it would’ve been manually like using the way back machine and stuff i am not a technologically smart person in case you couldn’t tell
But the thought of losing all these writings, even the one’s that have been abandoned for years is… yea kinda depressing and disappointing.
Im sure we got like a dozen or so people archiving everything… Just a bit shy of 2200 wips to go on the website
May I ask if that’s going to affect this forum where we discuss and share the WIPs? Like, is it also going to be deleted?
No - the forum isn’t affected.
I don’t think anyone is objecting to that. If you can, please go ahead with archiving. We need automated tools on this job if we’re are to even think about getting everything.
Hey man. You did this best you could. We salute you🫡
Just a heads up that people over on reddit are already planning some sort of archival effort
There’s also the archive here nevermind, it seems to be gone
Thank you @HarrisPS for your tireless work in letting every WIP author know about dashingdon closing and moving their WIPs to another location.
(…and thank you to anyone else I might have missed)
That’s like a lot of work. Reason why I wanted to automate it. But tbh I would also need to use ChatGPT to code for me. As I did not learn that in Uni as of today. (Only started recently lol)
But there are 1877 Public Games. Which is a huge number. And would take much time. And that’s not taking into account of testing them.
But if all fails I would also do it manually.
Yeah I will try. I only have basic knowledge about programming as I just recently did my first semester of Uni.
Keep in mind that a google drive for abandoned WIPs already exists. You may wanna get in touch with its owner, or at least keep tabs on the disc so you don’t end up archiving too much stuff unnecessarily.
Thanks for everything you’ve done all these years. You’re a true pillar of this community.
Well guess I have to try and read the stuff I have open before the end of the month :/. Sucks that I really dislike the other site, especially how it constantly logs you out after barely any time (since you need to be logged in to save) and how you can’t manage saves at all (like can’t delete them), and the banner that messes up the page a lot even when closed, at least on mobile. Ugh… Just sucks since it was such a near perfect service
You don’t need an account to save any more, and you can transfer them between your device storage and the website, something that wasn’t available before
Haven’t messed with it in a while, so just checked and good to know. Also that the banner isn’t pushing the page down awkwardly far leaving weird blank space on top
It is still a work in progress and getting updates, so I’m not too worried about the bugs.
Kind of saw it coming when CoGDemos got announced but regardless, thanks for the service you provided to everyone @dashingdon
You’ve done an amazing job for this community. Thank you, Don.
You can delet them. Even export them or import.
And as far as I saw you can have infinite saves. (Only severs save are limited to 10, don’t know if it’s for each game or all)
Agreed… the author of Folksaga was posting about wildfires and having covid and when smoke making it worse, and then went ghost on tumblr, a lot of readers fear the worst. Would be a shame to lose their last work especially if it was actually their last.
