Coming Thursday! "Heroes of Tomorrow: Hidden Potential"—Trailer and demo out now!

Where I live (Mountain Time Zone, UTC-7), new releases usually drop early- to mid-morning. Let’s say between eight to twelve hours from now.

I have never actually ever fully thought about the times games usually release I live in Finland so games are usually released in the evening (for reference it’s 8am at the time I post this) if your in the states the times probably around noon

No, it’s almost always before noon in the continental United States. Maybe a little before noon on the east coast, but well before noon for me.

I stand corrected then :joy: timezones are hell to remember and I always assumed it was usually noon in the states at release but now I’m jealous

Why? Just because it’s earlier in the day for us doesn’t mean we’re not getting the game at the same time you do.

Played the first chapter or so of the demo and really enjoyed it, so I’ve bought it and I’m about to start playing it now.

Can we date the mentors? Logically not our mom, but.. Gladiator’s just my type of older romance, like Red Claw :smiling_face_with_horns:

unfortunately the mentors are not romanceable, but it’s still important to develop those relationships. There are four possible ROs in the game, though, and I think you’ll like them once you meet them all.

I finished the book. Simply cinema, I loved it. Thank you author for creating this. The fact that the game has a subtitle gives me the hope that there is going to be a sequel or spin off, but you just delivered this baby, so you deserve a well-earned rest before embarcking in new projects

I liked the overall story, setting, and characters and options for what powers you have, but in terms of choices I felt railroaded. Most choices involved testing particular stats, but the opportunities to improve other stats beyond the ones I started out with throughout the game felt very limited, which meant in any given choice I usually only had 1 (sometimes even 0) viable options.

I think this would be OK in scenes where the end is the same regardless of the means you choose, but choices that felt like they would have a huge impact on the story itself and the ending (though I am unsure because I only played through the game once) also tested particular stats. As a result I often felt trapped between choosing something I didn’t like but that matched my stats, or choosing something I did like but that would result in punishment because it didn’t match my stats.

Additionally, sometimes the story went on as if I made particular choices I did not make (eg. when I was given an option to share a particular secret but chose not to, characters would later chat about that secret as if I had told them, and when I was given an option to have a particular opinion about something, my character in the next scene started talking about having the opposite opinion).

Huge congratulations on the release!

Enjoyed the game. I think I’ll likely replay it at some point too. Some general spoilery thoughts below:

Spoilers!
  • I liked the core cast a lot more than I initially expected to - the Red Claw / Germ intro sort of set me up to dislike them and I think the switch from that intro scene to their actual characters felt a bit jarring - I don’t think RC ever really felt that irrationally hostile ever again after the intro. Still, I’d rather one weird scene at the start than have the characters not work thereafter, so good stuff all round.
  • I wish I’d romanced Paragon - I had to go for Conjurer because I’m a sucker for magic, and I was intrigued by the fact it was clear she was hiding something, but the reveal wasn’t too exciting for me ultimately. It was still a nice character dynamic, though. I was particularly sad I couldn’t lock Paragon as my MC’s best friend despite not romancing her, I feel like I would have loved to talk to her more about the Brilliant plotline as it unfolded.
  • I think I got mostly lucky with my run-through and it ended well (all the trophies won, I think everyone lived), so can’t comment too much on the difficulty. An intelligent + charismatic + fighting MC with Elemental Control and the dark powers only when strictly needed felt pretty effective though.
  • Mixed feelings on the Dark Star - I really liked the scene where it explains itself a bit and tries to merge with you (I let it merge!) and I thought the reveal about your character’s origins (Cloak was the one who told me) was interesting, but I do think the story would have benefited from more interactions with the Star post merge, and more chances to talk about / reflect upon the MC’s origin. It’s possible I missed some via branching, but I basically never talked to the Dark Star again in any meaningful way beyond it trying and failing to control me a couple of times without any dialogue, which was a shame. In the final fight it was just a generic shadow blob fight before Brilliant went back to being the main threat, which added to that feeling. Overall it was solid as a final villain, I should clarify, but for a little while in the midgame I really thought that it might be great. Brilliant was good though! Gave me big Omni-Man vibes, but I thought it was well executed.
  • Ending was fine with me - I would have enjoyed a bit more Where Are They Now with the Epilogue if there isn’t a plan for a sequel, but I felt like it was a satisfying and well constructed story on the whole and I’d say I definitely was satisfied with it.

This may be a coding error. Please send as many details about this as you can to the devs so we can figure out the issue.

I’m glad you enjoyed your experience overall, though.

Happy to hear you enjoyed your playthrough.

Summary

Spoiler responses!

  • There are talks behind the scenes with Germ after the initial RC attack that convince them not to fly off the handle like that again. That said, there are at least three other instances in the story where RC will fly off the handle, depending on your choices.
  • Conjurer is so fun to romance, but all of the ROs are completely different experiences. Next time you play, definitely try one of the others.
  • The fact that everyone lived past graduation means you worked some magic. I’ve played through the game a bunch of times and can’t always pull that off. Especially the extra tough Lizzie/Flashfire part of that battle.
  • I feel you here, but when the DS tries to merge with you, that’s its last attempt to reach out to you before Brilliant is also attacking it inside the Shadow Realm. Then, by the time Brilliant returns, the final battle is upon you. Very little time for a lot more interaction with the way it unfolded. It sounds like you joined forces with Brilliant to defeat the DS, though, which is always an effective strategy. Glad you were happy with your final battle.
  • I’m curious which ending you got. There are several, and some of them are more “where are they now” than others.

I definitely did!

Spoilers!
  • Makes sense! I don’t think that it didn’t make sense, per se - they’re teenagers, after all, figuring themselves and each other out, but it still felt a bit jarring to have RC pick a fight specifically with me - I was sort of expecting them to have more personal issues with me that would be harder to work through!
  • I have a feeling that I got pretty lucky with my build (particularly personality stats); I noticed a couple of points in the lategame where I suspect that having a slightly different personality stat composition would have gotten people killed - e.g. during the Brilliant VS Everyone at graduation…
  • Yeah, I get you re: The Star. It did feel like there was enough time between the merge and the grand finale that dialogue from it whilst I went through my adventures would have added to it as a character, at least for people who were merged with it who it might have been better able to ‘multitask’ with whilst fighting Brilliant, I think. I definitely get that it had to fall by the wayside after Brilliant returned and took center stage. And yep that’s right - teamed up with Brilliant, then had to beat him up after failing(? not sure if there’s a way to talk him down) after he turned on me after the Star was down.
  • My ending was me visiting Brilliant in his jail - he asked after Paragon IIRC, and it sounded like my team were the new big dogs / ascendant stars in the superhero world, but it was all pretty high level and impersonal. I maybe would have liked more of the cast to have been around for it, but it worked fine as an ending!

@SilverImpeator I have TONs of ideas for sequels. More comments/reviews/posts like this, please! I’m sure it’ll help make it happen. Cheers! :purple_heart:

@Hamartia I love hearing how your playthrough went! Thanks for sharing.

Hey, I reached the last chapter but I had a big bug that made me stop before going on (as usually if a bug is patched when the game is left mid-chapter, then the chapter resets, and it’s more convenient to let it do that than have to restart the entire game).

I reported it via the bug report thingie anyway, but considering it’s a major one I prefer to also report it here!

Spoilers in there

So this is during the fight with Brilliant in chapter 11, when it comes to saving Lizzie and Flashfire. I picked the option to send Z and Chameleon to do so, which apparently checks for the relationship with each of these + team cohesion. My stats are 62 for Z, 70 for Chameleon and 84 for team cohesion, yet BOTH Lizzie and Flashfire die. I didn’t even code dive, but I’m pretty sure the requirement wouldn’t be SO absurdly high, so I guess it’s a coding error.

PS: I’ll write proper feedback once I’m done with the story!
